Maybe stupid and useless answer, have you tried to check that in your audiocard the MIDI volume has not lowered to 0? Sometimes it happens to me without any reason (with Finale 2006c for Windows) that when I open any file and start playback I cannot hear anything, I go to audiocard mixer and

In Finale 2010 they removed the ability to import Encore files directly (so much for not removing functionality, eh?) In Fin2009 and previous it is still there, under FileImport. I think MusicXML might be an option too, but I don't know how that works. Certainly you need the Encore file to

Ah, I see! Multiple conversions are always a problem. Detail gets lost, stuff gets corrupted, yada, yada. I would say off the top of my head that something happened in the conversion process to prevent Finale from reading it. I would bet that Encore would have trouble opening it too, but
