Hi Raymond,
To clarify your comment a little, there is only one actual sampled
bass clarinet included in full GPO (Bass Clarinet Solo). The
Player instruments -- Bass Clarinet Player 1, Player 2, and Player
3 -- are all what are called derivative instruments, which means
they are derived
Hi Darcy,
Excellent solution. Thanks for the info.
Rather than buy JABB (and parhaps even Garritan Marchng Band) for some
of the instruments, I keep waiting for the Advanced GPO, whhich I hope
will include improvements from both.
Anyone know anything about Advanced GPO?
Raymond
have full GPO.
I didn't get Finale 2006, but will likely get 2007 (avoiding vertical
collisions is a big deal, I think, if it works well). So far, using Finale
2005, I prefer doing my sounds in Digital Performer, where I have much more
easily accessible control. Maybe with the new balance controls

That news certainly traveled fast! It was in local papers this morning,
Dear Ray,
Please say hello to George for me.
Thanks,

Hello,
Does anyone know why the GPO bass clarinet only goes down to C# (sounding
B)? I thought any bass clarinet with a low-note extension would go down to
C (sounding Bb).

Hi David,
This is a longstanding and very annoying bug with GPO and FinGPO --
please write to Garritan and/or MakeMusic and ask that it be corrected.
(This won't be much help to you, but the JABB bass clarinet has the
low (sounding) Bb... )

This is but one of many range peculularities in GPO. That one is very
odd, becaue there are four bass clarinet samples, and all have the same
low-range limit. Bass clarinets either stop at low Db or Bb (concert
pitch), never B.
Perhaps you could load a contrabass clar sample in another
For the first time I was actually trying to make some good use of GPO in
Fin 2k6. I just spent about two hours on trying to get a piece sounding
nicely. Within this time Finale crashed badly three times, either while
playing back or while I was adjusting something in GPO.
For the moment
I don't blame ya.
One thing I discovered is the GPO studio works fine with Fin2006.
Doesn't resolve all stupidities but a few of 'em. If I were the God
of Finale I'd start looking for a Noah. Corrupt, vile, world of misery
that it has turned into.

Buy more RAM. I took Darcy's advice, bought more, and life with GPO has
been much, much easier since.
I'm not giving up those sounds.

I noticed that the GPO cello is badly balanced within itself. Just let
it play a chromatic scale without any changes in dynamic indication.

It might help to know what type of system you have as well. GPO can take
a lot of horsepower when you have 8 instruments running. Sounds, due to
the load time, that you might not have something that can run GPO well.

Johannes is right that GPO in Fin2k6b and up is still very crashy.
This is a new bug that was introduced somewhere between Fin2k6a and
Fin2k6b -- both the original Fin2k6 and Fin2k6a were stable when
using GPO. I complained about this at the time, but MM seemed to have

They couldn't find a real cellist that day when they were doing that
