Tammy, What I did recently for .zip, .cab, etc. in a doc, was to put a nonbreaking space (Ctrl+Space) in front, instead of a regular space. Now the spell checking goes right by them. I'm not sure of the variable solution, though I suspect it would work, too. ~~ Linda G.

IF (<<< Note BIG If) they're the same character that FM uses, you should be able to find them by typing a backslash \ before the dash/hyphen character in the Find box: \- I usually find them by selecting one and copying it to the clipboard and then using the "Text ... on clipboad" Find option.
