And what if you *want* it to be in RGB mode? (as you quite legitimately

Can you do File Print Book and print to the Acrobat
I'd suspect a corrupt graphic. Try making a copy of the file, deleting
out all the graphics, see if it will PDF. If so, add back in the first
half the graphics, see if the file will now PDF. If so, add half the
remaining graphics, text again. If not, remove half of what you'd added
and test

The problem is not with setting the Adobe PDF as printer instance.
The problem occurs when this is selected and when another printer
instance is selected.

RGB-CMYK was the culprit! I just tested with CMYK
checked in the PDF settings, and the file
rendered correctly. I switched that back to RGB
and it failed.
