Re: Mif2Go suddenly failing on all machines
Sometimes it seems like Win 7 decides to protect a directory? And you can huff and puff, but it keeps applying some accursed attribute... you can create a directory in some safe location (or copy a known functioning directory), rename the cursed directory, then copy the good directory to where you need it, and it will (may?) keep its usablility. I went through this a while back -then you can copy the files of interest into the fresh directory, etc I expect there's a better way, but this is something to try Good luck! Re: Mif2Go suddenly failing on all machines
Zeroing in on a solution, I think: (famous not-last words) One of the steps to take after installing Mif2Go is to go through the new .exes and .dlls and make sure they have write permission, preferably full permissions. Along the way, I see that many/all of the files are blocked by Windows, which sometimes happens as a protective measure when adding files from a foreign ZIP. Having unblocked all the files, I see that m2gframe.dll always regains its blocked status. It appears to respond to the PropertiesUnblock command normally, but when I go back to check the file properties again, it's locked again. Has anyone encountered this? Does it matter? no - not that I know of anyway There was maybe an hour from the time of the last successful build (2:11pm Tuesday) and the first failed build. RE: Mif2Go suddenly failing on all machines
Hi, John. You can check the Windows Update history – will tell you when any Windows and other Microsoft tools updates occurred. Assuming you have Windows set for automatic updates – some will boot the machine though, so you would have seen that event (!). As I recall, the FrameMaker ones are not automatic (i.e., you have to choose to do them), I think, but am not sure of this. Also, the Windows System logs will show you more details on any issues that Windows has seen – this is a bit more complex though. You have to search for things – maybe a search for the FrameMaker executable in those logs? More SWAGs: Also, have you tried to run an anti-virus checker like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware? Might be good to see if some random rootkit or other program is causing issues with a port that causes Mif2Go to get very unhappy? I also suggest trying a (careful) registry cleaning with CCleaner – not just for the apps tab, but the Registry cleaner tab (use with care – make sure to DEselect the “Unused File Extensions” checkbox … that is a bit too much overkill, IMHO. Re: Mif2Go suddenly failing on all machines
Curses! Foiled again. I narrowed down the window from 2:11pm, when the last successful book was created, to 3:07pm when I was back at my desk editing an unrelated doc. Within that window I saw there was some activity from MBAM.swissarmy.sys, indicating an installation. I forgot that I had upgraded Calibre! I was foolishly multi-tasking while mif2going... So I just uninstalled Calibre. I was about to try again when my computer froze completely and needed a hard reboot. After it came back up I tried the Mif2Go save again...and it failed with the same error. I fear that I will waste a glorious August Sunday hammering at this conundrum. Re: Mif2Go suddenly failing on all machines
Here's the latest, after an afternoon of research (= banging my head against the wall): - The project fails almost immediately, with this error: Mif2Go failed for file: C:\Project\Users_Roles.html type 1, code 2, at: Wed Aug 13 15:46:36 2014 Could not run DCL filter or other program. File not found. - All Mif2Go files are present and in the right places following an uninstall and fresh install from new ZIP. This means I do not know what file cannot be found. - I get the same failure even for projects that succeeded earlier in the day, with the same previously-successful ini files. - I have used (and resolved issues with) Mif2Go for 10 years, so I know how things should look - they look OK. - The save process generates good MIFs. I get the same error for each file, with the option to quit. If I do not quit, it makes a mif for the next file and then I get the error again. Mif2Go.ini increments normally for each file generated. - If I push through to the end, it generates all the MIFs but it does not clean them up and it generates no output, nor the _wrap folder. - The history and the log file look normal. - All the Mif2Go exe dll files have full write permissions, including the two new ones in \fminit\Plugins. And remember that the whole system worked flawlessly for two big books before failing on the third, much smaller book just an hour later. I appreciate any ideas! Re: Mif2Go suddenly failing on all machines
John... This is just grasping at straws .. but do you have extra DLLs in the \fminit\Plugins folder? All FDK DLLs in that folder (or subfolders) get loaded when FM starts. If you've got extra DLLs that are duplicates of others that could cause some problems. I can't say what the proper list of mif2go DLLs should be, but if you added two new ones, you may have needed to remove the two that were being replaced. And .. don't just move the old ones into a subfolder called old .. they will get loaded there too. ...scott On 8/14/14 2:40 PM, John Sgammato wrote: Here's the latest, after an afternoon of research (= banging my head against the wall): * The project fails almost immediately, with this error: Mif2Go failed for file: C:\Project\Users_Roles.html type 1, code 2, at: Wed Aug 13 15:46:36 2014 Could not run DCL filter or other program. RE: Mif2Go suddenly failing on all machines
Hi, John. This is a complete SWAG here. Maybe it is unable to run the program “DCL.EXE” which is in the omsyshome\Omsys\system\common\bin folder (of course, omsyshome is likely different for you). So, have you made sure that your search path in Windows is set to include the omsyshome\Omsys\system\common\bin folder, perhaps (and that the dcl.exe file is present in that folder … although I think you said you checked this already)? You can verify this by using a Windows Command Prompt to see if you can manually execute that program, or it says it is not recognized. Here is the example from my system (which is my own DOS program that emulates the Unix equivalent ☺ … if you want a copy, please let me know). C:\which dcl C:\home\Omsys\common\bin\dcl.exe C:\foobar 'foobar' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. C:\dcl usage: dcl [-abx] [-lmp] [-v] [-f format] [-s source] [-t target] [-o output] files... After you add it in, please do make sure to log out and log back in for the environment variables to get read again. Hope this helps! Thanks Syed - DCL runs fine from the command line (that is, it does not return a not found error. I was very careful about setting up my environment system variables. In other news, just now when I closed FM12, I got a message about FM needing Compatibility Mode, which would be aut-applied the next time I started FM. File not found. It had worked fine just an hour before. Nothing had changed. Nonetheless I rechecked all my environment variables and other common issues; they were all good. Restarting the machine did not fix it. A complete uninstall/reinstall of Mif2Go did not fix it. Today is does not work on two different computers with different files. Is anyone else experiencing this? It's as if my license has been revoked or some similar global denial of service. -- http://www.actifio.com/*John Sgammato, Documentation Architect* *e* john.sgamm...@actifio.com *c* 508.927.2083 *t* @actifiodocs http://twitter.com/actifiodocs 333 Wyman Street, Waltham, MA 02451 http://twitter.com/actifio http://www.linkedin.com/company/399246 https://plus.google.com/102870897962348937868/posts http://www.youtube.com/user/actifiohttp://www.actifio.com/ *Radically simple copy data management * *.* ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as s...@leximation.com.
