Has anyone used Framemaker for the purpose of generating a complete
reference set i.e., extensive use of volumes? I would like to see if
someone can provide me with some direction on setting up a file
structure and/or any gotchas awaiting me for setting up this
documentation.

I caught a clue about FrameMaker's font behavior from

ini files went away a LONG time ago) and that in that .ini file there is

Jessica,
I've been participating in a minor way with several other writers on

Try this: Assuming some flavor of Windows, delete the font cache file at

I don't quite follow what is happening here, and I don't understand what
you mean by FM "inserting font data on the strings themselves". Do you mean
that if you import the same element hierarchy with different text you get a
different font?

Hi, all.
A couple of related questions. In some of my documents, I am using
a large number of file imports by reference - keeping the common
text and information into separate files (these get imported into
multiple final documents).
1. When I am working on a particular FM file with these file

One way is to insert an empty paragraph with a special tag at the
end of the chapter file, and then use a cross-reference (with an
x-ref format that picks up only the page number via the <$pagenum>
building block) whenever you need the total page count.

Ok - a quick follow-up to this. For the "empty" paragraph tag, you need
some kind of source text for the paragraph to select for the x-ref, so
what I did was set up an auto-number format with the phrase
"TotalPageCount" and set the color to white so it doesn't show and I
have a cross-ref. format

Hi all,
Is there any hard and fast rule that when you have a blank left page
before a chapter break that you have to label it as "This page intentionally
left blank." ?
It would be much easier if I could use section break for odd pages (yes,
this is using Word) instead of Next Page

I've used Captivate with FrameMaker. As far as I know, Captivate will work

This a bit tricky. I haven't done it before, but I found instructions
for it in the Adobe FrameMaker help. The topic title is
"Including the total page count of a book in a header or footer"
The Page Count (<$lastpagenum>) variable ordinarily resets on a
file-by-file basis, but you can make it
Hi!
Interesting question regarding Shlomo's excellent ToolbarPlus Express
tool. The tool originally had a "bug" where the Paragraph Tag dropdown
box was nearly invisible. I know there's a fix for this, but I can't
remember what it is. Can anyone help?
