Dear Framers: Thanks for the suggestions, very helpful. I never found the error. What I did finally was delete all the reference pages in my template file which direct the formatting of the indexes. This allowed FM to start again. So I lost some complex formatting. Very thankful for this lifeline

I use Index Tools Professional from Silicon Prairie Software. By and large, I am happy with it. It has sped up indexing tremendously...and makes it pretty darn easy to see what index tags are currently in place. I haven't tried other tools. This was the first we tried and it was such a
