Considering the amount of RAM in the box, AMD64 would prob be best for your
needs.
If you need 32-bit software or features go with i386 instead but you wont have
access to all the RAM

Hi guys
For following hardware, I am wonderting that which Freebsd amd64, ia64 or

Tools:
1. FreeBSD 7 Production Release

This is an old problem, but so far I haven't been able to find a

I have an AMD64 install using saslauthd and is failing.
An identical installation on i386 works fine. Both installations are
running on FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE with cyrus-sasl-2.1.22_1, and
cyrus-sasl-saslauthd-2.1.22.
A telnet session to the MTA yields the result:

Hi all,
I've managed to get the i386 jail to start by nullfs mounts of /libexec

so i'm a bit confused about the the 64 bit and why the machine is identifying
itself as amd64 and not i686?
because this intel CPU is 64-bit AMD compatible (x86-64 standard).
the rules changed and now intel make AMD-compatible CPUs

Hi all,
I have an i386 jail running on an amd64 host that I use to build
packages. Most packages build fine, however I have a few that fail.
This includes xorg (dri won't build) and mplayer. In all cases I get an
error messages similar to this:

because the
implementation of the set_thread_area syscall is too simplistic.
* Wine doesn't work on FreeBSD/amd64 because the kernel doesn't
preserve the segment registers on context switches.
Also, Wine and all its dependencies (xorg libs etc.) should be
built as 32 bit. Ideally the
