Yep,
I too have just bumped into this issue.
I see it on a freebsd box:
bash jake oracle /usr/local 12 $ uname -a
FreeBSD jake.host.com 5.3-RELEASE FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE #0: Tue Nov 1
05:56:17 CST 2005 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/src/sys/i386/compile/JAKE
i386
bash jake oracle /usr/local 13 $
I
make
make install
So, I installed ruby-iconv and now
require 'iconv'
returns true rather than an exception.

FreeBSD and Linux people,
I have a PC which I want to boot as windows, FreeBSD, and Suse 10.1 Linux.
Currently, FreeBSD boot0 menu shows both Windows and FreeBSD as boot-able.
The FreeBSD boot0 menu does not show the Linux OS (which I just installed).
So, I did some reading of the FreeBSD hand

I'm jazzed.

Thanks gentlemen.

Beastie People,
I'm working with some ruby software called scrAPI.
I got scrAPI working on my Mac so that's good.
FreeBSD is different story.
My beastie box is tripping over tidy.
I think it wants a tidy.so library.
When I installed scrAPI on my Mac; it came with the
Mac shared library bolte
'm feeling good.
To answer my own question:
How do I make .so files?
ans1: use the Makefile
ans2: use gcc
I saw this fly by on my terminal:
gcc -O2 -Wall -Wno-switch -Wno-parentheses -Wno-unused -o .libs/tidy tidy.o
../src/.libs/libtidy.so -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/local/lib

Hi,
I need a freebsd 5.3 desktop server.
Do you have any recommendations for some vendors?
I could go buy some commodity hardware and do the install myself
but I seem to have bad luck with hands-on type tasks.
I'm not picky about CPU; Intel or AMD is fine.
Anything over 1.5 GHZ should do it.

You probably don't want 5.3 as it will be EOL'd in a few months. For
any new installs you should be using 6.1.

Thanks!
I worked with the links you sent me.
For desktop systems I narrowed the list to these offerings:

http://www.storeanywhere.com/pages/html/products/st.produc

It has an ATI grapics card but I'm not sure how to use
a shell command to give me information about it.
I looked at dmesg output and saw nothing about the grapics card.
How might I get info about my graphics card?
Thanks,

FreeBSD people,
I'm trying to figure out how to setup dual boot on my PC.
The PC has a 250G drive.
Currently, when I boot, I see this menu on the console:
F1 DOS
F2 DOS
F3 FreeBSD
F4 FreeBSD
F1 I avoid; The factory put an XP thingee there.
F2 works well, when I pick it, the box boots with
ndows working on the console [ it works good over the
net tho ].
Thanks for the tip on pciconf !

People,
I want to configure sendmail for incoming mail.
I want to funnel all mail destined for a specific domain to a catchall
account.
On my FreeBSD 5.3 box I looked in /etc/mail/
I found this file:
/etc/mail/virtusertable.sample
and studied it.
I made this file:

Sergio,
I'd suggest you install bittorrent on a pc which has a burner.
Then, every time you dial up, you will down load a small piece of
the freebsd cd.
After 2 or 3 weeks , you will have the entire freebsd cd.
This is different than ftp which only works well with a high speed
connection.
So,
" set for /usr/bin/nologin.
Best regards,
Greg Groth
