Thanks William, i did notice this issue many years ago too, so i can see what
you're saying is true. I now just either accept the default compression level,
or change it and go back with WinRar or 7Zip and undo compression as needed.

I wish to add that i would like to see at least some messages if
something overrides my own settings. There may be a simple & great way
to resolve and fix this issue!

The bug is simple; compress_level (and in the development version,
compress_type) are not saved in the savegame.
