The less expensive G5's and Intels are cheap enough to compete with
those third party G4 upgrades, and you end up with a much more
powerful machine.

It's odd that the Safari security problem has been around so long. Are
they hoping to fix it with Safari 4, and not bother with previous
versions?
I had done some due diligence before mentioning milw0rm, so I'm glad
to get some corroboration here. The anti-virus vendors (McAfee, etc.)

Now on my PC (and PC versions installed on my Mac) I run.wait for
it...Norton AV 9 ($39). They finally released a great product.
As a sufferer of older Norton antivirus products, I got my hopes up,
only to find that that they don't support 9 any more:
Hello,
I want to get some opinions from the experts.
sometime in the near future I will be purchasing a new notebook
computer. My main uses are internet applications, office utilities,
and web design.
I am between a used 15'' PowerBook G4 1.67Ghz with 2gb ram for around
700 - 800 with
Sounds to me like the PowerBook will be 100% competent for your work, although
the MacBook is a long way ahead as a machine
Can you see your requirements expanding at all?a G4 PB is still a very capable
machine at the end of the day but the MacBook is still a world apart

Like others have said, I think your best bet is to go with a new G5
(either an iMac or Powermac.)

Agreed, get the macbook you'll notice a world of difference in terms of
value and speed. While the G4 will do everything you want its a dying
architecture. Also, did apple officially say PPC macs wont be compatible
with Snow Leopard?

I would give the PowerBook G4 1.67Ghz an
unqualified recommendation EXCEPT that wireless
reception is frequently erratic, possibly because
of internal antenna placement in that model.
Apple has replaced my Airport card twice without
improving things.

Hey folks,
I just noticed that the G4 Gig-e Mac I have has a problem with 2 of the hard
drive plates. You know the metal plates that you attach the hard drives to
and then in turn attach these plates inside the bottom of the G4 case. Each
plate has one screw that keeps it in place inside the

I'm reasonable sure that Apple has never said
I would go with the PPC PowerBook. I had a 1.83GHZ Core 2 Duo macbook
and sold it for a PB 1.67GHZ High-Rez. You can get soo much more out
of the powerbook:
PowerBook 1.67GHZ
DL Superdrive
FW 400, 800
DVI out
S-Video out
Bigger Screen
Most of these things, the new macbook won't have. Granted
