Ok so I bought a gen 1 (non-2002) quicksilver for 10 bucks from a pawn
shop. When I got it, the graphics card was dying, and there were unknown
other issues keeping it from booting. I figured worst case I'd just use the
case to eventually build a hack into. I got it home hooked a vga monitor

I just installed a 1TB 2.5" SATA hard disk into my G4 mac mini using one of
those SATA to PATA Superdrive bays you can find on ebay for $10. Had the OS
installed on the old 80GB hard disk which I will not remove, I did have to
change that old disk to SLAVE, however. Works like a charm.

what you do. It could just be old settings and config causing problems.

Reach in with a long reach bit and drill the head off the screw.

Good suggestion: that occurred to me, but the screw is not damaged and a proper
tool will remove it. And since I do not have a 10 inch or longer drill bit I
would have to buy that tool which probably cost about same as the proper tool.

on my MDD, it's originally written for the G5. I can see the CPU temp. in
the menu bar and can switch off one of my CPUs if I don't do
processor-intensive work so the temp. never gets too high. Both apps

Well I had some time to attend do this... I pulled out my PCIe cards,
and my RAM cards, and for good measure pulled out the CPU/heatsink
assembly too. I blew it all out... put everything back in... booted up
to the Apple Diagnostics Disc... discovered I burned the wrong
version...

slot so you could run a SATA cable out to the drive. Routing would be

Hrmm... only firewire devices I have connected are a Lexar CompactFlash
reader, and my Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED I'm guessing it's
probably the CF reader which uses the LSI chipset I could try
pulling it off the chain.

I was hoping to run mac os 9.2 on it and maybe os X and some linux on it.
On macintoshgarden I found various cdroms, mac os 10.1 mac os 9.2 for this
machine and 5 cd set to restore mac.

The slowness of your G4
You guys have been telling me that DA G4 is probably the slowest thing on
my network. I looked up the specs and the ethernet port is 10T, 100T,
1000T. I am pretty sure that means gigabyte.
I have been looking at PCI cards and there don't seem to be any listed G4

I just upgraded to tenfourfox 38.2.1 and it's noticeably slower. But there is
other things going on because it wasn't too fast to begin with. The two slowest
things on my network are most likely the G4 and a series 2 TiVo with a usb
