[Audyssey] moosic

2009-02-11 Thread shaun everiss
Hi.
the moosic project page is dead for some reason.
the last version is 2.0.
go here

http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/download.sourceforge.net/pub/sourceforge/m/mo/moosic/Moosic_2.0.zip
I have used this system to work around troublesum links in sf.
note I find the web system a visual junk pile, using your ftp client I find the
database easy to search for as long as you know the project name, the first
letter and the first 2 letters of the project you can find almost anything, in
fact you can get access to loads of other sites without leaving the client to
put in another address.
some things are linked.
in fact everything is linked.
Its a rather large database but its a good one and although not to fast is
reasonably accessible and good.

2009-02-11 Thread shaun everiss
Hi all.
it appears moosic 2.0 has issues, there was a 1.0 and this also had issues.
So for those that care rc3 is the last one we can play though 2.0 has actual
things that make it better for us.
Hmm wander if there is an email or website for the makers, I wander if they
would mind fixing the issues.
the training file crashes on startup.
menus on windows don't seem to work right, 2 items play when only one should.
this causes the binary to crash the source reveals all.
hmm I wander if someone that knows what they are doing can fix the menu issue
and put out a new release that does not have the issues.
At any rate those that want to bother can, I tried but I get to the what I
think is the end and hear do, so I must be doing something wrong somewhere.
unfortunately things don't work that well.
rc3 is ok but there are no nav cues like steps, etc.
The training system seemed ok but really what you are supposed to do is hmm
interesting.

Hi Lukas,
As of todays builds Angela does speak some stuff now using a real human
voice. For example if she steps into a room with an enemy in it she will
say something like what now, we've got company, hostiles, etc.
Though my absolute favorite fraze is, get out of my way! Quite
apparently not going to take any crap off of centaurs, skeleton
warriors, or flying harpies.
Another new addition that didn't make it into the trailer that has been
added to the game just over the passed 24 hours are warning messages. If
she is walking, not running, when approaching a fire, lava pit, chasm,
etc she will let you know when she is in danger. Angela will say
something like watch out, look out, watch it, etc. It is a great
cue that you are in mortal danger.Especially for silent traps like
spikes and poison darts that don't make any sound until you trip them.
Although Angela can see them so she points them out to you along the way.

If any of you have played the Wii, you know that it's just about
impossible
to start, since on the startup screen there are seven buttons to
push--four
on top and three on the bottom, which makes for a confusing and
frustrating
day at the Wii console. Even though you know the one you want is in
the top

left corner, you just can't seem to find it and instead find yourself
adjusting your daughter's mii... (which is the way she programmed her
character to look in the games.) Incidentally, I gave hers quite the
hairdo.
With the screen in such a state, you might spend an hour starting the
game
you want and have time for a match of tennis before dinner time--if
you're

lucky.
Well, fear not Wii fans, because I have found a solution. You'll need
sighted assistance for this but...
In addition to the page containing the start game icon, there are three
or
more pages with additional channels. There are two ways to get to
those
pages--the plus and minus keys on the Wiimote, or the arrows on the
screen.

What we are going to do is to drag each channel, (accept for the one we
want--the start game icon,) to another page.
Have your friend hold a and b together while pointing at a channel,
then

move to the right arro and let go--and they have successfully moved the
channel. You'll know it because you'll hear a chirp from the Wii and
your

friend saying, cool.
Have them do this for the next five channels, and you're done. You now
have
a startup screen with only one button--well, plus the arrows, but they
won't
do anything accept change pages and you just hit the minus button to
get
back to the first page--no harm done. So now all you do is move the
Wiimote
around till it vibrates and you're there. Make sure that your
assistant
moves the channel you want--the start channel which, if they can't
figure it
out, will say Wii sports, on it if that CD is in, to a place far away
from
the arrows--the upper left corner perhaps. I can now start the game
almost
every time I try it,

Ken, just for reference here there is a world of difference between
Visual Basic 2008 and Visual Basic 6. I am honestly not suprised you
encountered troubles upgrading Enemy Attack to Visual Basic .NET. The
import wizard will do the best it can, but there is only so much it can
do before you have to manually edit the programs source and fix the
differences by hand. There is a lot of new concepts and features of
Visual Basic .NET you should really know before you start upgrading all
of your VB 6 projects over.

Smile.

Ken wrote:
All right, you've won me over I think. I just got quite miffed when the
upgrade program produced so many errors in Enemy Attack. My goodness,
can you imagine how that would play on the wii?
Anyway, I'll look into it for sure and start writing again. My brother
broke my last computer and, until I get it integrated with the new one,
I cannot continue with Wrecking Ball, though I may have put the source
for Air Hockey up on my site, I can't remember--unless there is a way to
decompile the exe file?
I think that both Enemy Attack and Wrecking ball will both be great Wii
games. For Enemy attack I'll use the sensor bar for aiming, and since
only two or three enemy will be coming at you at once it won't be hard
to point and shoot--just like using the mouse. Oh I can't wait to start
programming. My only obstacle now is getting a bluetooth adapter and
stack that will connect the Wiimotes to the PC--I've heard of many
troubles in that regard, and that only the Tashiba Blue Solleil works,
and that it's a 30-day trial.

Anyway, back to gaming!

Yeah, this trailer sounds tons better to me than the first one. The
music and new voiceovers make such a great difference in terms of
the game's overal feeling or atmosphere... Only the new Angela
sounds perhaps a bit too aggressive to me. Do you think that mixing
the two voices together, choosing the best fitting sounds for each
event from the two sets of screams and grunts, would make a
noticeable difference in the end? Like two different persons? :-)
Cause I would definitely replace at least the jump scream with
something less urgent. :-D
Other than that, keep up the unbelievable great work, Tom, I just
still can't believe that a game of such professionality is gonna be
completed one day.

2009-02-11 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Ken,
Just to clarify here... If you mean programming the Wii, as in writing a
game that runs on the Wii console, that isn't possible. Not only is
Visual Basic .NET not supported on the Wii console you have to get a
special SDK from Nintendo to write games specifically for the Wii. Now,
if you mean supporting Wii controlers on a PC that is a fairly easy
programming project.

Smile.

Re: [Audyssey] New MOTA Trailer Released

2009-02-11 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Lukas,
Like I said before it all depends on how much time, energy, and
creativity you are willing to put into the project. It doesn't matter if
the game is a 2d side-scroller, a 3d first person shooter, a move based
roll playing game, etc the quality depends on how much effort you want
to put into it. In a very real sense creating games is a work of art. If
the artest is into specific details then the game will have a very high
degree of detail and realism.

Lukás Hosnedl wrote:

Great news to hear! I never would believe how a side scroller could
successfully resemble the most modern Tomb Raider if someone told it to

revolutionary elements into audiogames, both features and atmospheric
details and more, that all other games start looking like the old 8-bit
Atari classics right next to your avesome inventive creations. :-D

Hi Will,
Well, first off the product key registration system for Mysteries of the
Ancients is non-OS specific. So it doesn't matter if you register it on
Mac OS, Linux, or Windows the product key should work with all three
versions of the game once they are ready for final release.
Weather you download the Windows version of the game right away or
choose to wait for a cross platform version to be released isn't any

You mean program a computer game using the Wiimote? I think that's the only
possibility with VB.net. The Wii would have a development kit (usually
costing several thousand dollars) that allows you to program software, but
it wouldn't be in VB. I think the only option you have for console games
using VB.net is the Xbox 360.

All right, you've won me over I think. I just got quite miffed when the
upgrade program produced so many errors in Enemy Attack. My goodness, can
you imagine how that would play on the wii?
Anyway, I'll look into it for sure and start writing again. My brother
broke my last computer and, until I get it integrated with the new one, I
cannot continue with Wrecking Ball, though I may have put the source for Air
Hockey up on my site, I can't remember--unless there is a way to decompile
 the exe file?
I think that both Enemy Attack and Wrecking ball will both be great Wii
games. For Enemy attack I'll use the sensor bar for aiming, and since only
two or three enemy will be coming at you at once it won't be hard to point
and shoot--just like using the mouse. Oh I can't wait to start programming.
My only obstacle now is getting a bluetooth adapter and stack that will
connect the Wiimotes to the PC--I've heard of many troubles in that regard,
and that only the Tashiba Blue Solleil works, and that it's a 30-day trial.
 Anyway, back to gaming!

   Hi Ken,
Not sure what you mean by vb .net express looked a mass of confusion .
Are you referring to the IDE? If so, it takes a bit of time to get used to,
but once you do, you will really appreciate the power and abilities it
 offers you.
As for programming any halfway serious audio game, I've looked at a bit
of java code, and I'd say visual basic is more or less on level ground with
it in terms of difficulty to program, which in my opinion isn't that hard.
When I started out in 2005 looking to get into it, I looked long and
hard at several options. I thought about C#, but I can do the exact same
things without having to warp my brain around there weird syntax and use of
odd symbols. Before you C coders out there get bent out of shape, I want
you to know I don't care what language you use, same as I don't care what
kind of computer you use, for me whatever gets the job done with minimal
fuss is what I am going to use, and for me that was vb .net express. I'm not
putting down C# or any other language, and if I were doing graphics
intensive stuff, I probably would have gone with C# or something similar.
I've done about all you can imagine an audio game could use, from
joystick inputs, to full featured online play with virtually no lag. All
this was done with visual basic .net.
The single exception to this is force feedback, which I was not able to
put into rail racer, which chapped my stick, and perhaps is fixed by now.
I am about to release my second and third commercial games in the last
two years, all three of which were built on visual basic, and with virtually
no programming experience 4 years ago to speak of.
I can't give a higher reccomendation than that for anyone looking to
program audio games for the blind.
It has taken a lot of time and tenacity, but as the old saying goes,
 nothing worth doing comes easy.
I encourage you to take another look at vb .net, lord knows we need all
the good accessible developers out there we can get, and in my humble
opinion I think java is going to leave you lacking in the end.
  Later,
 Che

Subject: [Audyssey] blue lacuna

Hi.
Was doodling with blue lacuna, the man writes right to left.
I found all the items and pushed the numbers in reverse order.
however I get to the forth one and the game tells me nothing.
are there 2 buttons that one must not push, in which case can someone give me
the sequence?
like the actual sequence off list if they wish.
and how exactly to push all the buttons, unless the seaquence changed some or
something I don't know, I looked at the hints and in deed I am sure I am now
doing the right things.

2009-02-11 Thread Zachary Kline

Hi Sean,
Odd. Well, if nothing else, there are multiple ways the story can
advance: opening that door just now isn't necesarily the only one. I gather
that's the case from things I've read anyhow.
The sequence, assuming you have it right, should work reading the bands
from left to right and pushing the buttons in that order. Other than that
I'm not sure what could be going on.

Best, and hope this helps,
Zack.

Hi Sean,
Nope. I have Release 2 as well, and it worked for me.
Is there any other area you might be able to advance in? Have you
explored everything you can or just focused on that door? Have you slept
anywhere interesting?
Also, it might be a good idea to give your list of what the items are,
at least to be sure we're not missing something simple here.

Best,
Zack.

Ok.
I have found the mantas, and the leaves.
I have found the secret grove with the crystals in it, the mussels, hmm I think
the snails too but have to check.
I have found the sculpture to.
I may look again though as I restarted the game, so I can find things again.
and also because I broke my leg.
Is there a way into the volcano without that door?
I tried climbing it but I can't get into it.
the stones at the top of the door are stuck fast and if I try to climb the wall
of the mountain I just break my leg.
If there is an easier way passed the door without opening it, I'd like to know
although I'll go through the game again, and see.

roomandprogramming for Wiimotes

Hi Ken,
Just to clarify here... If you mean programming the Wii, as in writing a
game that runs on the Wii console, that isn't possible. Not only is Visual
Basic .NET not supported on the Wii console you have to get a special SDK
from Nintendo to write games specifically for the Wii. Now, if you mean
supporting Wii controlers on a PC that is a fairly easy programming
project.

Smile.
