And to be quite honest? Miriani is fun if you know how to play it.

well there is spoorsim.
although they really didn't develop it and it was prity boring, yeah you could
control the train somewhat but whats the point if you just go round, back and
forth.
with no real missions, etc.
I can take off in fs2002 and just fly round and not land or anything and just
get bored real quick.

Re: [Audyssey] good muds

2009-08-07 Thread Shadow Dragon
I personally think miriani is lame. You spend three quarters of your time
fending off annoying, so-called space pirates who think they need to get in
a virtual pissing contest with anyone who blinks at them funny to prove a
point, or mess with someone just cause they feel like it. If I wanted to
deal with behavior like that I'd go play some old godwars clones, or
godwars2 on a regular basis. At least on godwars you can't have everything
you've ever worked for stolen because you don't feel like spending 3 hours
of your time moving around a sector while someone with billions and billions
of credits launches sectors full if interdictors and chases you around in a
BC, eventually calling in backup if they can't deal with you on their own
and overwhelming you with odds. The gameplay itself gets tedius as well,
you've got about 6 choices of activities, only 2 of which are worth doing
and even those are tedius after a while. Yes these are just my opinions, and
no I won't be responding to any defence of the mud, I played it for a couple
months and thus believe these opinions to be well-formulated. I have no
problems with defending what's mine in an uncontrolled environment, but I
think its pushing the limits of ridiculous when it takes you between an hour
and a day to pull off said defense, and then people can't just drop it there
and go find something better to do. Not to mension immature and petty
actions like stranding and droid stealing are allowed, things that by all
right 90% of people have no fair chance of defending against and for the
most part aren't even crippling enough to be worth doing. It's just not that
great of a game. I personally prefer a more controlled environment where
solo play is more viable and you're free to do your own thing whenever and
wherever you want rather than socializing in a public area only to suddenly
be grabbed by some loser and forced to spend 24 hours in his ship for no
better reason than because he can make you. But again, these are just my
opinions. Call it complaining if you want, but I for one give miriani a hard
thumbs down.

Good news. I've done some poking around an I've found an open-source Train

It's called "Open BVE". The main menu is the most accessible of the Train
Sims I've tried.
Here's my rundown. Keep in mind this is days old in my head, so it hasn't
been fleshed out much.

OpenBVE: Main Menu partially accessible. There's a radio button with
"Start new game", "Review last game", "Controls", and "Options" that I
can't get to with NVDA.

MSTS (Microsoft Train Simulator): Main menu not accessible.
Railworks: Main menu not accessible.
Trainz 2009: Main menu not accessible.

Download site:
http://openbve.trainsimcentral.co.uk/common/openbve_stable.zip

Dependencies:
http://openbve.trainsimcentral.co.uk/use/download_windows.html
-Follow this! Took me a few hours of tinkering to finally get it to work.
Maybe I can ZIP a working copy for others.

Youtube vid with audio:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLhUXfKGt-Y
-Sounds quite good for freeware!

Since OpenBVE is open-source, we might be able to ask the developers to
add sounds to actions (brakes release, brakes applied, etc)
and indicators for variables (speed, block speed limit, next block speed,
signal status, etc etc)
I've used an old program, "FS2002FA", to issue voice commands to the sim,
and it seems to work great. "Increase throttle", "Emergency brake", and so
on.

I'll try to make an audio demo next week after my hellish gov't final is
done.

Let's hope this can be made a reality!

Hi,
A person named "zinc" from the audiogames forum said the following
about Cosmos. It basically says what I hear many people say goes on at
Cosmos.:
[Start Message]
I would like to encourage you all not to play the MOO "Cosmos". Some
reasons why I think this.
1) It's a Miriani clone.
2) The admins are terrible. One of them took a stun gun to my head!
3) They cheat. I stunned one of the admin guys player characters, and
I was put into a conference room until the time is up.
4) The website is poorly designed.
5) The owner is one of the most immature people I've ever come across.
[A possible insult removed]
[End of Message]

You can verify that here: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=3047

While I haven't spent lots of time since the beginning of Cosmos, I've
also heard from several people how buggy Cosmos is. "Many things don't
work, lots of errors, it's unorganized". While Humanity MOO was
certainly a failure in terms of ideas, code wise there was hardly any
errors. This is why the core based of Humanity MOO was so good. A
small MOO I run myself, LearnMOO, is based off Humanity MOO core. We
haven't received one error relating to code we wrote.

Thanks.

2009-08-07 Thread Tristan B
I will be posting an email introductor-ing, as it were, "the NEW Cosmos". In
Cosmos, we made alot of mistakes, that were very little at first, but slowly
affected the entire game.

The combat has been improved. We have a plot, and there are new ships. We
also have a new sound pack, thanks to Bryan Davis, one of our players.

To download the sound pack, or just browse the site, visit
http://trekgames.net.

Hope this helps,
Tristan B

Re: [Audyssey] Troopanum2 and A I T O - Re: I'm having a bad time with trupenum 2

2009-08-07 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Charles,
Yeah, I tend to agree with you about Aliens in the Outback. I can get no
lander bonuses in Wave 5, but I can't get one in Wave 4. It is like
waves 1 through 3 build up to Wave 4 and then it starts getting easier
again. Interesting, but I've never thought of it that way before.

Charles Rivard wrote:
Yes, Baby Black Hole is the easiest, as there are no moon rocks to
contend with. And, just because it is said to be the easiest level,
this does mean that it is easy. It only means that the other levels
of skill are harder. Another good example of this is Aliens in the
Outback. Is the easy level really that easy? Not for me, as I am
still trying to find the secret to those level 3 ships. And, is it my
imagination?, or is wave 4 usually the hardest wave. Seems like wave
5 is usually easier to get a no lander bonus on than wave 4 is. I
really like the game, but have never beaten it.

Re: [Audyssey] question

2009-08-07 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Michael,
Well, a steering wheel is basically a type of joystick. The same code to
support a joystick or game pad will also support a steering wheel, but
if you aren't using a game specifically targeting a steering wheel the
input will be rather weird. That said, there are a few accessible racing
games that support a steering wheel.

By far my favorite is Rail Racer. You can download a demo of it from
http://www.blindadrenaline.com
and it is a very good racing game for the price.
As far as free games goes there is Topspeed available from
http://www.playinginthedark.net.
It isn't my favorite racing game, but it is free, works well with a
racing wheel, and you might enjoy it.
Finally, there is Jim Kitchen's Mach1 TTS which also works fairly well
with a racing wheel. You can get that from his web site

http://www.kitchensinc.net.

If so, be sure you have the right framework installed, and direct x. This

Hi,

I don't have a firsthand answer for you I'm afraid because I haven't
scraped together enough pennies for my iPhone yet, but in case you
weren't already aware of it there's a dedicated iPhone list it would
definitely be worth asking about this. It can be found at
www.groups.google.com/group/viphone

There's also a fairly extensive list of accessible applications to be
found at www.lioncourt.com/voiceover-compatible-iphone-applications/
If you go down a few headings, there's a section just for games.

Your steering wheel is like a standard joystick in that any game that supports

Re: [Audyssey] super liam versus danger city

2009-08-07 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Peter,

Yeah, some of the functions for using DirectX also have long names that you
need to use. I mostly copy and paste stuff like that. I guess that part of my
keeping variable names short is to keep down the amount of typing as well as
the length of the programming lines. I don't like lines of code that are so
long that they are on more than one line. I also like to save time and work by
having a starter kit that I use to start all new games with. You know it just
has all of the code for things that I use in all games. But like I said I also
copy and paste allot of code from past projects. Maybe some people create a
dll library to do the same, but I often find that I need to make little changes
to the code to fit the specific project.

Any who, have fun with programming your current project.

Might as well face it, you're addicted to code...
