So, after spending a goodly five hours on this marvel of a game, I thought
it's fair to let all those who have a hand in creating this wonderous
piece of work know what I think- but of course, most of you already know I
love it, but here goes anyway:
1. Love the falling body sound when zombies die- for some reason that just
adds alot more to the experience.
2: Love the new gun fixes, shotguns are actually fun now, and that
suppressed mp5 is just godly!
3: Finding missions still a bit hard at my current level- also, the high
rate of death during missions kinda scared me off some, but I reccon once
I get much higher level, I'll feel better about it- right now, after
walking around for hours and getting a suppressor and then lose it when
dying during a mission still hits me a bit hard.
4: Quests: I'm not sure if I'm just bad at this, but I can never find the
quest items- when it wanted sparkplug, I searched in the stores, never
found it, same with blanket- but again, I'm too small to risk the bridge
and other side at the moment, so maybe they're loading over there?
5: In some ways I like the current gun sounds- they make it easier to hear
if you miss or hit- but I do miss the old, more booming ones too- in
particular, the sniper rifle...the current one just seems a bit
underpowered.
6: I think there needs to be a way to identify who is where, like a player
tracker system- otherwise on missions or in groups, it's really hard to
find a player- they can give you their cord and all that, but they have to
stop to type, you have to stop to type when asking, it's kinda sluggish
when things are really hot.
Of course they can use the 'ove here' sound, but if there are three
players yelling 'over here' I wouldn't know which one if my buddy Peter
for example.
7: Maybe there should be a trading system where you can trade your new
found shotgun shells to someone who uses a shotgun in return for some 9MM
rounds? I know you can sell them for reps at safe zone and buy things that
way...but the exchange rate is really not that great!

Re: [Audyssey] how i get out?

2012-04-05 Thread Ryan Strunk
Will,
Navigating buildings is something you'll certainly want to master, as the
safe zone is really the simplest of them. Wait until you have to navigate
the grocery aisles and back rooms of the Kai-Mart. Then you'll see a whole
new navigation challenge.
One way to navigate buildings is to use your radars like you're shore lining
with a cane. Face an exact cardinal direction, turn on your left radar, and
follow along the wall until you can't go any further. If you hit the wall
and can't turn left, then turn right and put the new wall on your left. In
this way, you can follow the perimeter of a building and find the major
exits.
There will certainly come times when you want to explore the center of a
building, though, and you can always use your front radar for that.
Just keep in mind that your best bet is to use cardinal directions when
navigating a building, and don't just move the mouse around as you walk.
Snap to a direction, stick to that until you hit some sort of cue, and go
forward.
Hope this helps,
Ryan

Re: [Audyssey] playmania, bgt competition collection

2012-04-05 Thread Christopher Bartlett
I've commented on the bgt topic on audiogames.net. Here is a longer set of
comments as I was commenting on all three submissions at the time.

I like that you packaged everything in a nice installer. I think I would
remove the help text from the installer though, as at least for me running
NVDA, the text was a jumble due to formatting and I ended up having to read
it all over anyway to understand it properly.

In the pouring game, I found it difficult to center the glass sound for some
reason. My accuracy in Swamp hovers around 75% so I don't think it's me.

The snowball fight portion of the game is the most interesting, but we need
some more behaviors from the bully, as, once you get the rhythm, it is
possible to hit him with two snowballs every time he approaches without him
being able to touch you.

The animals game needs something more than simply rolling dice and moving
through randomly determined obstacles. There are no decisions to be made in
this game, which for me makes its replay value nil.

Is this game pack intended for young children? It has that feel and frankly
they would be the only ones interested in any of these games for any length
of time. That's ok, if that's your goal.

Re: [Audyssey] playmania, bgt competition collection

2012-04-05 Thread Kevin Andrews

Hi Christopher and others,

I have to agree with the said comments here. I also had difficulty
pouring into the glass. I think that sound was in stereo so it was
extremely difficult to determine where exactly it was in relation to
where you are. Also I have to agree with the dice game. It quickly
became a very monotonous task of just rolling the dice and being moved a
random position and random events possibly happening. It has potential
for younger audiences though so perhaps try to target these specific
groups of people.

If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't;
If you'd like to win, but you think you can't,
It's almost a cinch you won't;
If you think you'll lose, you've lost,
For out in the world you'll find
Success begins with a fellow's will
It's all in the state of mind.
Full many a race is lost
Ere even a race is run,
And many a coward fails
Ere even his work's begun.
Think big, and your deeds will grow,
Think small and you fall behind,
Think that you can, and you will;
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are;
You've got to think high to rise;
You've got to be sure of yourself
before You can ever win a prize.
Life's battle doesn't always go
To the stronger or faster man;
But sooner or later, the man who wins
Is the fellow who thinks he can.

quest items- when it wanted sparkplug, I searched in the stores, never
found it, same with blanket- but again, I'm too small to risk the bridge
and other side at the moment, so maybe they're loading over there?
5: In some ways I like the current gun sounds- they make it easier to
hear

if you miss or hit- but I do miss the old, more booming ones too- in
particular, the sniper rifle...the current one just seems a bit
underpowered.
6: I think there needs to be a way to identify who is where, like a
player

tracker system- otherwise on missions or in groups, it's really hard to
find a player- they can give you their cord and all that, but they have
to

stop to type, you have to stop to type when asking, it's kinda sluggish
when things are really hot.
Of course they can use the 'ove here' sound, but if there are three
players yelling 'over here' I wouldn't know which one if my buddy Peter
for example.
7: Maybe there should be a trading system where you can trade your new
found shotgun shells to someone who uses a shotgun in return for some
9MM
rounds? I know you can sell them for reps at safe zone and buy things
that

way...but the exchange rate is really not that great!

Thanks Johnny! In addition to the new voices that are being added, there
is also a ginormous amount of new weapons and items being added. New
missions and mission types are being planned out, and in general we should
see a jump similar in size to when 1.8 became 1.9. I don't have any
estimates as to when these changes will be ready though.

It is because swamp simply rocks!
like seriously! I expect when the new voices come in it will
probably receive yet more people- including more female
players.

Re: [Audyssey] playmania, bgt competition collection

2012-04-05 Thread Nikola Stojsic (NS studios)
Hello,

Thank for your replys.

Just to avoid everything related to panning: there's nothing I can do to
sound being panned better or worse, in my opinion it works more than
desired, and when you're at the same position as the glass is, it will be
nicely played on the center.
If you don't believe, I can produce audio recording for everyone not
believing in my words.
About the games, I agree with everyone said that the games are stupid, they
are, but they aren't more stupid than 2 other games from Claudio and aprone,
since i played both games.
This games aren't supposed and made for my young child, since I'm not going
to have my children in sooner time.
Just take a note that I had in realtime my school and tests, exams, and so
on. I gave all my time on playmania, and believe that it herts when you can
say something like that that games are made for the children.

Hi Christopher and others,

I have to agree with the said comments here. I also had difficulty pouring
into the glass. I think that sound was in stereo so it was extremely
difficult to determine where exactly it was in relation to where you are.
Also I have to agree with the dice game. It quickly became a very monotonous
task of just rolling the dice and being moved a random position and random
events possibly happening. It has potential for younger audiences though so
perhaps try to target these specific groups of people.

me running NVDA, the text was a jumble due to formatting and I ended
up having to read it all over anyway to understand it properly.

In the pouring game, I found it difficult to center the glass sound
for some reason. My accuracy in Swamp hovers around 75% so I don't think
it's me.

The snowball fight portion of the game is the most interesting, but we
need some more behaviors from the bully, as, once you get the rhythm,
it is possible to hit him with two snowballs every time he approaches
without him being able to touch you.

The animals game needs something more than simply rolling dice and
moving through randomly determined obstacles. There are no decisions
to be made in this game, which for me makes its replay value nil.

Is this game pack intended for young children? It has that feel and
frankly they would be the only ones interested in any of these games
for any length of time. That's ok, if that's your goal.

Re: [Audyssey] playmania, bgt competition collection

2012-04-05 Thread Che

  Hi Nikola,
Keep something in mind here man as you read what others say about
your project. Lots of folks on the lists and forums talk about making a
game, or doing this or that to improve a game, or having this or that
idea to someday make a killer game.
but talk is cheap, and coding is hard, and you've done the work, went
through all the learning and frustration of coding, and you have
something to show the world, something few of your critics can say.
My first games were so basic and terrible, I never bothered sending
them to anyone, just used them as learning experiences and moved on, but
I'm sure I would have heard even worse criticism of them had i released
them to a wide audience.
so congratulations to you man, and hats off to Philip for providing a
great opportunity for folks to showcase their stuff, Ijust wish more
folks had been able to push through to a final project.
I think most of the criticism is well intended, and meant to be
constructive, but I know it can be hard to take when someone just poo
poos your work when they have little idea of how hard it is to produce a
finished project.
I hope what Philip is doing here becomes an annual event, what BGT
can provide is just amazing, and we need more bright minds with creative
ideas and the motivation to get their visions turned into reality in the
audio game community.

Good luck man, I look forward to seeing what you release in the future,
 Che

Hi Christopher and others,

I have to agree with the said comments here. I also had difficulty pouring
into the glass. I think that sound was in stereo so it was extremely
difficult to determine where exactly it was in relation to where you are.
Also I have to agree with the dice game. It quickly became a very monotonous
task of just rolling the dice and being moved a random position and random
events possibly happening. It has potential for younger audiences though so
perhaps try to target these specific groups of people.

me running NVDA, the text was a jumble due to formatting and I ended
up having to read it all over anyway to understand it properly.

In the pouring game, I found it difficult to center the glass sound

Hi Jeremy,

You are just so modest.

for those who don't know, Aprone and Jeremy Kaldobsky are the same person.
Aprone is his screen name.

As for the voices, you will just have to wait. Aprone doesn't usually give
out hints. He likes to release it when it's ready and see the reaction he
gets.

I will however let you in on what I've heard. What I've heard is more
weapons of each type. Possibly more powerful than what we've already got. If
you listen to the new zombie sounds in the sounds folder, it sounds like
they are getting bigger and badder. Thus requiring the new weapons. Can't
wait to see the new stuff. when its ready. Although I will be ready,
willing, and able to test any new features that come up.

2012-04-05 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

All previous versions of swamp, 1.8 and the test versions, are outdated,
removed from the server probably, and not usable. The info for the new
swamp, version 1.9, the full release, is below.

Here is what Kai posted on March 30th.

The file is a self-extracting archive, and will attempt to launch Swamp upon
successful extraction.

I've made the file available on both Dropbox and Sendspace, in case one or
the other messes up. I've also uploaded the file to Jeremy's server, so
maybe he'll be able to reflect the change later on.

Re: [Audyssey] how i get out?

2012-04-05 Thread Richard Sherman
Hi,

It sounds like you would benefit from hearing a couple of walk thru's. If
you want them, just download from the followng links:

harp's Swamp Demo.mp3
done on the full release of version 1.9

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13968355/harp%27s%20Swamp%20Demo.mp3

Drew's tutorial.mp3
Done on an early version of 1.9 test

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13968355/Drew%27s%20tutorial.mp3

steady the butcher.mp3
steady on an axing rampage. Done on version 1.8 or earlier

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13968355/steady%20the%20butcher.mp3

Valiant's swamp playthrough.mp3
playthrough of swamp by vallient. done on version 1.1

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13968355/Valiant%27s%20swamp%20playthrough.mp3

Even though some of these walk thru's were done on earlier versions, they
give some good advice that still works on the latest version.

Otherwise, stay in the safe zone and test out your keys before venturing
outside.

but if you must, the doorway is between 40 and 46. Make your second number
one of those and you should be able to walk right out. Also, there is carpet
leading from the defensive and storage rooms to the main hallway leading
out. just find that and walk on it.

Note, the doorway of the safe zone is wider than all others.

One other way to find the doorway of the safe zone is to use your beacon.
Press shift 1 to turn it on, and pres the same keys again to turn it off.

Be sure to read the readme.txt, and changelog.txt files before venturing
outside. You could also take a look at the keyconfig.ini file and note what
all the keys are, and what they do. There you can also make any changes to
the keys to make it more your style. Just be sure not to erase or move any
of the main lines as it will then not work properly.

Always glad to help newbees on the game. Look me up or contact off list.

Hi,

Many have wondered this. It appears to not only be a problem with jaws, NVDA
users have also reported this same thing. For now, if it repeats, press your
control key to silence jaws. Fairly sure it is on Aprone's list of 2 do
items.

Good luck

2012-04-05 Thread Trouble
I haven't played your games. However, you do have something in the
competition. Now whether they are made for young adults or not is not
really the issue. The issue is how good do they play and the play itself.
As you go better games will come and you will learn. Now that is
where its all at, keep going.

nicely played on the center.
Just take a note that I had in realtime my school and tests, exams, and so

say something like that that games are made for the children.

Hey Nikola, as one of those who have offered constructive criticism, I do
not mean to insult you or your creation. When I say that these games would
work well if aimed at children, I'm actually trying to provide you with a
suggestion for what to do with the filled-out project. As Dark said in his
critique over on audiogames.net, you have done well with your use of sounds.

Also, whether you win or not should not decide whether you continue working
on the games or not. And if we can't provide honest feedback, how are we
going to help you improve, which is what getting feedback is all about. I
think you'd agree Aprone aka Jeremy is a current rock star in the developer
set right now, having possibly the hottest game out ever, and certainly the
current title with the most buzz. Those of us who have been fans have
certainly submitted a lot of feedback, and not all of it complimentary.
We've called out what we feel are poor choices. But he has developed a
rapport with much of his fan base, and one reason is his ability to accept
criticism and either work to change something or explain why he chose what
he did and why he isn't going to change it. I'm an Aprone fan-boy and I
don't even like all his choices, but I trust him to produce something of
high quality with repeated feedback and change cycles.

So please accept what we say without taking it for more than it is. I did
not call your games stupid, and my question about your audience was meant to
help you market future games of this kind if that's the direction you want
to go. Your games are not my cup of tea, but that's my opinion and does not
mean I don't appreciate the effort that went into creating them. Hell's
bells, I didn't get my submission in, and while I will release that game,
it's going to be quite different than my original design.

So cheer up, if I didn't care, I wouldn't comment.

[Audyssey] Playing the Spaceship Game

2012-04-05 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here has managed to make any headway with the
spaceship game. I've been trying to figure this out on and off all day
and I'm afraid I just don't get it. I can't seem to attack and shoot any
alien creatures. Plus the total lack of a Learn Sounds menu has left
me guessing what sound is suppose to be what. However, I like the
concept of the game and don't want to rate it poorly until I've got the
hang of it. Any ideas of how to figure this thing out?

Cheers!

Hi,
First, Don't start in the fighting practice area. Start with the regular game.
The fighting practice should probably have been named survival mode, or
something similar. The regular game itself actually does a good job of
explaining what is going on and the descriptions of enemies are given as
they're introduced. Secondly, turn off the music. There is a static sound near
the center of each level which seems to be just an ambiance noise. Everything
else in the enemies. Basically, use the arrow keys to move around in the area,
the page up and page down keys do not work for me, and either get a line of
sight to the enemy, which can be determined both by the stereo position and by
the look feature, and use the control plus directional to fire at the enemy, or
get as close as you can, drop a mine, and run.

Hi Karl,

Well, I did start with the actual game instead of the Fighting Practice
Mode, and I can't even get out of the first area. I try and look for a
door, hatch, or something with look mode and nothing. All it says is
wall, wall, wall, wall, etc.

I've also turned off the music which helps some, but since I don't know
what each sound means in context that still doesn't help. What I'd like
here is a description of each sound and what they are suppose to be.

In Fighting Practice Mode I can't seem to hit anything. I use the look
keys just like you said and all it says if there is a wall in x feet.
The q key tells me there is like 3 worms, a snake, and a cat nearby, but
when I press shift+left, shift+right, shift+up, or shift+down wall,
wall, wall, etc. No enemies. I just don't get it.

Also the page up and page down keys on my laptop don't work. I press
them and it does absolutely nothing. Maybe a bug here?

Cheers!

Hi,
First, Don't start in the fighting practice area.

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here has managed to make any headway with the spaceship game.
I've been trying to figure this out on and off all day and I'm afraid I just don't get
it. I can't seem to attack and shoot any alien creatures. Plus the total lack of a
Learn Sounds menu has left me guessing what sound is suppose to be what.
However, I like the concept of the game and don't want to rate it poorly until I've got
the hang of it. Any ideas of how to figure this thing out?

Cheers!

I play the game while using Jaws and found that only the pageup and
pagedown keys on the numberpad worked. There's also a sort of double
swish alert sound when an enemy is close or in the same passage or
something like that. I'm pretty impressed with this game overall
considering its short development time. Give it a chance. It grows on
you.

If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't;
If you'd like to win, but you think you can't,
It's almost a cinch you won't;
If you think you'll lose, you've lost,
For out in the world you'll find
Success begins with a fellow's will
It's all in the state of mind.
Full many a race is lost
Ere even a race is run,
And many a coward fails
Ere even his work's begun.
Think big, and your deeds will grow,
Think small and you fall behind,
Think that you can, and you will;
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are;
You've got to think high to rise;
You've got to be sure of yourself
before You can ever win a prize.
Life's battle doesn't always go
To the stronger or faster man;
But sooner or later, the man who wins
Is the fellow who thinks he can.

Re: [Audyssey] Playing the Spaceship Game

2012-04-05 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Michael,

I've been trying to give Spaceship a chance, but I am continually
frustrated by the game. I just can't seem to figure it out.

However, you did answer one of the problems I was having. I was running
it on a laptop, which unfortunately didn't have a numpad, so page up and
page down weren't working. I wish Claudio would have thought of problems
like this before releasing Spaceship as that is a pretty common issue. A
lot of blind gamers have laptops, netbooks, etc and assuming the target
system has a full sized keyboard is a big mistake.

Anyway, I haven't voted yet because I am trying to keep an open mind
about the game, see if I can get into it, and hope Claudio releases a
patch to fix some of these issues like the page up or page down keys. In
the mean time I plan to play with it over the Easter holidays. I'll
probably turn in my ratings early next week once I have had time to get
use to the game.
