Re: [Audyssey] DarkKeyboard

I loved that feature when i first baught jaws, i could press any random key,
and jaws could tell you without you doing anything on the computer and it
would tell you what function it did and what keys you pressed.
I am glad that the folks at freadom programmed that feature into there
software.

 Audyssey Folks,

A German colleague on another forum said that he was having trouble
 playing
some games because he didn't know what all his keys did.

So I built this program, DarkKeyboard (hello, Dark!) that speaks each key
 as you press it.
Amazing what you can do with spare parts of game code.

DarkKeyboard intercepts your keystrokes so that they do absolutely nothing
 except speak to you.
DarkKeyboard self-voices. It's installation program works with JAWS.
DarkKeyboard works on Windows computers available since 2000, including
 Vista.

Being a small company, I just posted DarkKeyboard to our Web site,
 www.7128.com.
It's totally FREE. No registration, No ads. No spyware.

If you think it might be useful, or know someone who might find it useful,
 please go get a copy.

 Hi,
interesting. I felt most of them made perfect sense. alt, control, and
shift plus the arrow to bank, turn, and roll.
I also like the fact page down is used for ascend and up arrow is
descend. This is more like a real aircraft. On true aircrafts pulling
the stick back pulls the nose up and pushing it forward dives. So this
again makes perfect sense in the context of the game.
Is there any particular key commands you thought were
confusing/difficult to use? I'm interested to know why it is not
intuitive to some, and is intuitive to others.

in order to play a mud, you'll need a mud client such as monkey term or

 Hi everyone:

My friend is a die-hard ZMud user. Before upgrading JFW, ZMud read like
 it
was supposed to, but now that she is using version 9 of jaws, it no
 longer
does so. It skips lines, etc. She doesn't want to switch, and she can't
get that older version of jaws on her PC since the other one crashed.

I thought that I'd read somewhere about a plug-in or a work around that
would fix this issue, but at the time I glossed over it figuring that it
 didn't concern me.

Does such a plug-in exist, or was I reading in my sleep? Thanks for any

 Hi Claudio,
If I might can I offer a bit of advice? As a new developer your
reputation is at stake, and the last thing you want to do is give your
customer base a wrong impression of you. Coming out and asking for money
to get started is, well, not a great way to incurrage investers into
your new game company. This is by no means a flame, but I want you to
think of a couple of points below just for some consideration.

 1. As a result of being a totally new programmer you have no history
with the blind gaming community. No one has had a chance to sample any
game titles from you, seen how well you program, if you make interesting
games, etc. In short you haven't had a real opertunity to prove yourself
 to everyone.
 2. When you ask a community such as ours to pay for the Basic 4PPC
compiler it says to a lot of us you aren't going to be able to license
quality music and sounds for your games. I have spent almost $300 on
sound effects and music for my Tomb Hunter games so far and that is six
times the price of that single compiler. Granted I was helped by selling
Montezuma's Return, but the fact of the matter is if you want
professional high quality sound effects you need a lot more cash than
the $54 for the Basic 4PPC compiler. That puts a lot of doubt in my mind
if you are finantially equipped to do production quality audio games.
 3. I apologise if this seams sinical, but there are lots of free
alternatives out there such as C++, Java, Visual C#, etc with a huge
amount of free documentation out there for free. Every time I have
attempted to interest you in a more low cost solution you say, that
isn't for me. Ok, that is fine, but think of this. The fact of the
matter is you don't have the money to invest in Basic 4PPC, and maybe it
is time you look at more low cost solutions to get your feet wet in
programming. To quote an Americanism, beggers can't be choosy.
 4. As a fellow programmer I can see you are really struggling to
understand something as simple as Visual Basic. As programming languages
goes VB is an extremely easy programming language to learn, and if you
can't grasp a language like Visual Basic your definitly not ready for
full production games. Visual Basic is called that because it is a basic
language, light on syntax, rules, and lacks more of the advanced
features of C Style languages. It is very very basic.
 5. Every time I begin taking on a programming student I incurrage them
to learn a C or C style language. Have you ever stopped to ask yourself
if there might be a practical reason for that?
Besides my own personal preference for C style languages like C++, C#,
and Java there is a very practical reason for choosing as I do. The
professional game world uses C++ for the majority of games, code
examples, and is filled with C++ programmers. If you were wishing to
join a mainstream game development list for help you would litterally
have to speak their language. In this case showing a code example in C++
or similar would get the most help.
For example, not long ago I got and read a book on advanced A.I. systems
 for computers. Guess what?
The entire book was full of
code examples in C++. Had I not had even a basic grasp of the language I
would have gotten nothing out of the book. As I have had both experience
writing and reading C++ source the code examples were of help to me. If
I was only a Basic programmer I wouldn't have gotten anything out of it.
 6. I really do not mean this harshly, but many of us on this list are
going through financial difficulties ourselves. Here in the U.S.A. the
country is going through a financial period of massive inflation. The
value of the American dollar is falling, gas prices have sky-rocketed
out of control, utility bills have gone up, basic house hold needs have
gone up in price, and everyone I personally know is in a bit of a
financial crunch of one kind or another. Whoever takes office in 2009 is
going to have one dandy of an economic mess to clean up after 8 years of
what boils down to incompitence and mismanagement of physical
 responcibilities.
Anyway, to the point with things as they are I don't know of anyone who
has money to spend on donations or investments in an unknown company
without a really good reason to do so. Things are tight enough as it is
for some of us in the U.S.A. let alone spending out an extra $54 we
could use for public transpertation or something else that is a necessity.

 Claudio wrote:

 Hey all,

Thanks to a post on the Audio Games forum, I've found a resource
management game that's worth playing. You're a Golem craftsman, and
you construct your own golems from parts which are then made from
resources to attack players and monsters with. That's not all, though.
When you sign up, you have a workshop, complete with a worktable to
atatch parts to golems and also to repair cevered limbs in combat.
Also, the game actually has a world. Your workshop has a location,
where you can go out as your character and see the surrounding areas
of it. Also, the combat descriptions aren't detailed, but they're nice
enough to read, unlike other games where it's just a table of numbers
with nothing about advancement, etc, it's always presented in a
spreadsheat-like form, but not here. Each event is a round, and events
aren't placed in the same rounds, providing easier reading of combat
 results.

I haven't yet provided the compus, but if there is anyone on here who
plays from the AGF, do you know if the map screen used in other areas
is the same as the other map? If it's the same, well then I think this
is the first game with exploring that I've seen where maps are
 accessible, finally!

Check it out at: http://www.muelsfell.com and be sure to enter Origa
without quotes into the refer field. Just wondering if anyone knows
what the refer thing does anyway, when someone refers you?

 Thanks.

That would be really cool. Could yo have a payment of softs for the
 engine.
I think if I didn't have to do a lot of the coding, I'd love to see what
games I could develop. I've always wanted to develop a Left Behind Game.

It would be a free game of course due to copy right issues.

 Hi Andy,
No. What I meant about dropping walls and doors is that you will be able
to pull up a menu of items to place onto the form, select it, and then
it will place it on the form for you creating the necessary code for you
automatically. Here is a simple example.
Let us say you want to draw a piece of wall at 0, 0, 0. You would use
the arrow keys to get to 0, 0, 0. Sapi would say nothing. Ok, press d to
bring up a list of things to draw. Select wall from the menu. After you
press enter on wall a chunk of wall is placed in 0, 0, 0. Now, if you
arrow to 0, 0, 0 it would say wall. When you save your level file you
would have a piece of wall at 0, 0, 0.
It has nothing to do with Maze craze other than you could in theory make
your own Maze Craze game if you wished.

 Andy wrote:
Stupid comparison coming up, but still would be interesting to
 know.

When you say drop doors and walls, that kind of reminds me of
maze craze from dan z games. Is it going to be something to
 imilar to that?

 Hi,
Well, unless you have some serious cash I doubt you can afford it. The
trial version of the GMA Engine was $50 USD. If you wanted the unlimited
user license was $2000. There are other payment plans such as $300 per
year, or 25% of your game sales. At least that what was quoted to me two
or three years ago. At any rate not something you can just buy and use
for free games. It would have to be an investment for commercial game
 projects.

well its supposed to be good however For sertain things you need to load
sertain plugins to make it all work.
And the monkey term soundpack well there is no converter to convert to
 mushclient.
Mushclient haws some good scripts by shaun randel that do things like
 have

your prompt at the same time as the game prompt.
 So I suppose no laging.
Also there are scripts that will display the command lists locally of
 the
mud you are on aparently and asign keystrokes to execute things.

 Hi,
Right. And you can bet your best horse that Raceway isn't going open
source. I think it is going to be a great title for USA Games, and with
the work and money involved in bringing it to market open source is not
 even an option.
At worst I will dig someone up to record the game announcements, menus,
etc and let everyone play it on their Mac, Windows PC, or Linux system
or use a recorded TTS engine.

 Alex K wrote:

 Hi Josh,

349 MPH is the fastest that I can get going before I get to the ramp. So
then with the rocket booster the most buses that I can jump is 40. But I
do not even get to the point in sixth gear that I would shift. Your
Harley only has six gears, so I am pretty sure that 40 buses is the limit.
Like I said though I have not made it to that yet in game play. 37 is
 still my record.

ah,
it is somewhat, you draw cards that tells you how many places to move, there
are places where you can slide down several spots or if you draw a card you
can swap places with another player or put another player back in there

Clue would be another board game that I would like on the computer, but I
haven't been able to figure out a good way to review the board for any of
those games. It's kind of like chess. I don't play computer chess. I
like to be able to put my hands on a board so that I can get a good

 Hi,

just in case you haven't heard about it, there is a new stargate M M O

with 4 classes of characters. It is free but there does seem to be
something about paying for some things. Kind of like sryth. For more
 info you can go to

I don't know how accessible it is. I plan on joining in the future, but
not now. If anyone tries the game , please report back what you find

 Happy gaming.

 Hello

I'm not sure how many people are in to the simutronics text based games
found at www.play.net, but I thought I'd post this in case there are
 interested people.

Play.net offers several very well-written muds that can be played. The
issue is that you can either use their client which is totally
inaccessible, or you can use Zmud which by itself is fairly accessible,
but will not read anything automatically. The solution of course is to
set your screen reader of choice to read the entire screen in hopes that
it would read the newest text to appear. This system isn't very relyable
and can cause headakes when your screen reader likes to read random words
and letters. What can be done? How about a full-featured plugin for zmud
that will interface directly with popular screen readers. That is my
plan, and I'm making it a reality. I wanted to post to the list to see
what interest there would be in this kind of project. The one thing to
note however, it won't be a free product, but I will not charge ridiculous
amounts of money for it. I'm thinking in the realm of 8 to 10 dollars.
to produce plugins for z mud, a developer has to purchase a license to do
so. As well as purchasing a copy of zmud itself. Let's just say it's not
exactly cheap. If people are against paying, I will just make a simple
plug in that does the bare minimum, but I wanted to add things like sound
support, line gags, and stuff. And all that will take a fair amount of
 time.

Let me know your thoughts. I'm interested in getting opinions on the
 concept.

 Liam

well you can just edit autoexec.cfg in the audioquake folder, its either
 in the root or id1.
there are lines to start demos.
no reason why you can just not delete that line.
also deleting any .dem files you find.
Strange that you should not be able to stop things though.
 At 04:20 a.m. 23/02/2008, you wrote:
yep, done all that, and when it says chose start game the demo goes
on. No way to get out, restart to normal play or even go to normal

demo.
Read all the a grip stuff, witch in some parts the manual lacks very
much on play. Even on how to get out of that demo.

note!!!, there is an AQ Source folder, this is not, I repeat NOT the
correct folder to enter, the correct folder to enter, is labeled simply
AQ,
and AQ and only AQ is the correct folder to enter in order to find the
proper installations of Audio Quake... You will not find any other
appropriate installation programs anywhere else on this particular site,
in
any folder, or otherwise displayed in any way, shape, or form, which will
in any manner, even attempt to come close to trying to actually be what
it

5 make sure the file name is correct, and one that you'll remember

6 set the save as type to all files

7 press enter or click on the save button, making a note of where you're
saving the file

8 go and find the file you've downloaded

9 press enter or double click on it

each
screen of the setup program

12 Note!!! you will want to download both the share ware Quake demo and
Mind Grid audio pack if you don't already have them installed
Note!!!, these options will be represented as checkboxes which you'll
need
to check to tell the installation program that you want these particular
bits of software installed to your system. If these checkboxes are not
checked, the program will think you don't want these particular bits of
software installed, and you most definitely do, unless of course, you
already have them, in which case, you may leave these checkboxes
unchecked...

13 make sure you have an active internet connection so that when you

these options that they will be able to be downloaded to your computer

1 visit http://tbrn.net/modgirl

2 Locate the root folder, which is where you'll be automatically, when
you
arrive at the site

3 locate the version of Jedi Quake that you'd like, preferably, the
latest
one, which is 4.1

4 the file will be listed as one with a .qmod extension

5 follow your browser's instructions to download the file

6 in the save as dialogue, make sure the file name has not been changed
to
have a zip extension

7 if it has, then change it back to a .qmod extension

8 select the all files file type

9 click or press enter on the save button, making careful note of where
you're saving the file

10 go and locate the file you just downloaded

11 check that the file name is still listed as having a .qmod extension

12 if it does not, then rename it to have a .qmod extension

13 press enter or double click on the file to open it

14 an automatic install should come up and simply narrate what it's doing

15 At the end of the install, you'll be asked to press enter

16 press enter

17 click or press enter on the start button; this will open the start

fingers and reflex? Hi all, This is quite a
weird question or thought, I just would please
like some feedback and funny stories if anyone
has experience of this. I was trying to play
running in an olympics computer game with my
friend, now, how you run is you press the left
and then the right arrow one after the other.
What I want to know, is even from small, he
has been able to press these arrows or at
least, to use his fingers at incredible speeds
compared to me. I am really much slower at
games that need quick reflexes then he is. My
question is, do you guys think that playing
more would improve a person's fingerwork? I
really find it amazing that people manage to
finish games like Troopanum on absolute hard,
I don't get anywhere near that, and, is it
somehow a strategy, or extremely good reflex
and listening? I also find it fascinating at
how much the mind plays a part when you want to
play. Sometimes, a person wants to play
something fast-action, but, if you're not up to
it mentally on that day, if you feel relaxed,
even if you want to play well you just
can't get yourself into the frame of mind to
get the best hand-ear coordination possible,
and, is it just me, but when you are with
friends and want to show them how to do
something in a game, nearly all the time that
you're on your own, you can do it, but when
your friends are there, at the back of
your mind you know that you just have to get
it right, you know that they're listening,
hoping you'll show them how to do something,
it's at moments like that that you just can't
do it, like, I remember on my Nintendo, on
the athletics, if you jump over the high jump
bar three times in a row, you get a lovely
little alien guy coming down in a jetpack, with
cool sound effects, and giving you ten
thousand points, but it was almost impossible to
do it when you wanted to show your
friends! Ari --- Gamers mailing list __

 Hi,
On the contrary, once I handled the interface, which took about a half
hour, the game became almost to easy. I was able to beat all 9 boxers
of the first game on the same day it was released. If the interface is
made easier, the game will become simplified to the point where it
 won't be worth playing.

I actually disagree there Bryan, getting to grips with the interface
 was
 the
only challenge I found in the game. the manual explained the key
 combos
 for
punches and counter punches fairly well, and once you'd learnt these
 the
 game became easy.

 That game really sounds good.
Fists and pipes sounded like fists and pipes.
The machine gun sounded chunky and the launcher.
Well you would expect to hear the thing launch and the projectile role
 to
 the target then blow.
In audioquake this does not happen.
The grenades bounce a little and you hear them clunk but they do not
 role.
Unless you use the modified ww2 soundmod that is.

 Hi people.

As I am not a moderater or anything similar, it is probably not my place
to say, but I am getting slightly tired of reading E-mails going ballistic
 over acefire.

Legitimately cryticising or defending the game in a calm and reasonable
manner is fine (it's what this list is for), but these constant Acefire
is an awful game or E-mails are taking up valuable list time, and getting
 everyone immotional and upset.

Whatever we think of any game, will people please remember that someone
has spent time writing thousands of lines of code, collecting sfx etc to
make it happen. As I said, it's quite reasonable to then take a good look
at that game, and recommend improvements or suggestions, but just sending
long wrants about it's awfullness does nobody any good.

The same with the price issue. Remember that if this were a mainstream
game you'd never have chance to even speak to the devs about the
price, - in fact a good percentage of the price would be going to the
retailer who sold the game anyway.

If you find the price unreasonable, explain your reasons calmly,
bbut also remember that it is up to damien to set the price, and up
to you to buy or not buy the game as you see fit.

can we please! have a litle maturity here!

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

wow, i guess messages like this one, this dev will just take his site down
and just state that he will no longer be programming any type of game
period.
what happened to giving friendly suggestions or comments on how to improve
something instead of stating how much crap someone put out as a game for our
enjoyment?
if i was this guy, and i was getting the abuse from this list as this guy is
getting, i would just trash the hole concept and just quit... i never seen
how harsh people can get after someone puts a lot of time into making
something for our pleasure.
if this was his first game, why not give cudos and just give suggestions on
how to improve the next beta or something? or next version? why all the
lambasting on this guy? why not give him a break eh?

 Hi Dark,
Hmmm... I have to think about that some. I am currently waiting on all
the poll results to come in before I make a decision like that. Though,
as of this mornings voting it seams there are definitely a small
majority that are in favor of more side-scrollers for the audio games
market.I like both styles so I haven't added my vote to the numbers yet.
Anyway, if the side-scroller style remains than it is safe to say we
probably won't need the old Monte game any more.

while I understand the reasons for not offering Montizuma's revenge,
 would
it be possible to rename the old Monti beta 9 game (with accompanying

I can just see in future, people wanting to play the old Monti levels,

 Hi Bryan,
Right. One idea I have is if I use swords and those kind of things you
need to be able to duel sword wielding skeletons. With skeletons using
bows and arrows you would have to use the same kind of weapon.
See my MOTA weapons and combat post on this very subject. I am thinking
perhaps we should do a TR or Indi type setup where you can carry modern
 weapons.

 Bryan wrote:

 capable
of wielding a weapon also be able to duel with it. Then we wouldn't have
 to
have limited swords and the enemies would still take some practice to
 kill.
Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.

 Hello gamers,
I've been doing some research in to Aztec technology, weapons, and
researching a viable combat system for MOTA Beta 2, and I do see some
areas we need to discuss as a group. Option one is to stick to some true
historical weapons of the Aztecs. Option 2 is to ignore the historical
weapons and add some other types of weapons into the game. Option 3 is
to try and mix and match weapons.

 1. If we stick to true historical Aztec weapons all weapons are going to
be extremely low tech. According to all historical accounts when the
Spanish invaded the Aztec Empire in 1520 the Aztec warriors used a
number of weapons made from obsidian and wood. one of the common weapons
used is a sword-like weapon made out of obsidian with a short blade and
a sharpened edge. The Aztecs also carried throwing or shooting weapons
such as obsidian tipped spears, arrows, and darts. The elite warrior
classes carried a lance-like weapon with four obsidian points on it
which was said to be quite deadly on the battle field. Finally, like
most low tech races they carried the usual clubs, stone knives, and bone
 tools.
One of the problems of sticking to this historical based weapon system
is that I don't believe I have sound effects for stone swords, knives,
wooden lances, etc. Though, I could look around and see if I have any.
Second, i do have sounds for metal swords, knives, blade traps, spikes,
etc but historically the Aztecs would have not possessed such technology
 in 1520 or earlier.

 2. Since using historical weapons could be difficult I have been looking
at how other treasure hunting adventures handle this problem. In most of
the cases such as in Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider they use completely
fictional weapons, or supply the explorer with a weapon to start with.
In the Indiana Jones line of games from Lucas Arts Indi is always armed
with fists, a pistil, and a whip which is given to him at the start.
Either that or he finds the pistil somewhere early on in the game before
he begins searching for the treasure.
In the Tomb Raider games Lara Croft begins the game with a pistil, but
she is able to find or obtain new weapons in one of two ways. In some
games she can pick up guns and ammo near enemy explorers trying to stop
her from completing her quest which makes total sense. In other times
she can find guns and weapons left behind by explorers who are missing
or dead who entered the tomb before her. In either case there is a
logical, but good way to find modern weapons.

So what do you all think? Do you think I should do it sort of Indiana
Jones style by giving Angela x weapons to begin the game with, or should
I use the found it on the dead explorer theme?

 Thanks.

 Hi,

I like the idea of an Indy style start where the character enters the game
with a few weapons. any good adventurer would bring in something to
 protect
themselves against the unknown. But there has to be some type of
 limitations
that enhance, or make the game play more difficult. Let's say that she
brings in a gun. But only has a limited amount of ammo. with no more to be
found in the game. The whip only has a range of about 4 feet and does
limited damage. None to skeletons, minor to spiders, and totally kills
snakes. Throughout the game could be scattered clubs, swords, and the
 such.
These too only have a limited range, about 2 feet, and a limited life span
before they fall apart because of their age.

but then again, that would be keeping it real. If you want to make this
totally redone with imaginative things, the amount of items is almost
 endless.

Just some suggestions. Whatever you decide, this game is going to be a
 good
 one.

there as a replacement for Montezuma's return. it is not the actual MOTA
game. I'm sure it'll get a lot harder, and that's good!

I foresee a problem with this. You will only need one sword, unless you
die, to kill all the creatures without jumping over them.

Here is a couple of suggestions.

Make it so that the snakes cannot be killed. or that on each level,
 there
is 5 swords that can be picked up. The snakes take one sword to kill.
While the spiders and skeletons take 2 swords to kill.

Another variation is that the sword is only good for so many swings,
 like
 5. After 5 swings of the sword, it is lost and you must find a
 replacement.

 Hi Charles and all,
Yeah, I think that is a good idea. I don't know about the shield idea
just yet, but I definitly want to redo the game with a variety of
weapons to choose from. At the start I am thinking of whip, sword, and
bow and arrow to start out with.
If you have any other weapon ideas let me know and I wil put them in the
ideas box. That box is getting quite full already.

No. South America is a completely different continent. By South American
countries I am talking of places like Columbia, Brazil, Peru, Argentina,
etc. They are completely separate countries which have nothing to do
with the USA. A lot of South American countries like Honduras is very
very poor which makes buying such things as computers, screen readers,
and accessible games far out of the reach of the average person in those
countries. It is both a social as well as economic problem as the cost
of living is so much different.

Re: [Audyssey] ot: chosing a good headset

I got a good set from best buy, it is a wireless up to 300 feet, forgot what
they were called, but they came in a box that you could open up and take a
look at.
a bit expensive though, my set was $170.00., but well worth it...
you also can hook them up to your television set to listen to TV as well.
Actually they are ment for the television, but I am not using them for that
reason.

Firstly, I'd suggest that you be a lot gentler with headsets. Secondly,
with so many requirements, I suggest that you buy one only after looking
 at
it. It sounds like most sets will not meet your demands.

Subject: [Audyssey] ot: chosing a good headset

 Hi list.
I was just wondering if i could have some thoughts on good headsets to go
 for.
My problem is i tend to break headsets lol i'm not sure why. But i Must
 have
gone through around 2 or 3 in the past 3 years or so. Guess its because i
have to pack them up in a laptop bag a fair bit.
My problem is either they break because of loose connections in the
 wires,
 or the mic stops working.
I have just gone through yet another one and i'm looking to replace yet
 again.
My problem is although I can find lots of sites out there on the net
 selling
them its really hard to get good solid technicle details on them. Its
 even
more anoying to go along to a store, and then not to be able to look at
 them
as they are all sealed up in plastic.
 Basicly i'm after a bynaural headset, that's also a supra-aural headset.
That means if i've understood it right that the sound is equally
 distributed
across both ears, and the supra-aural part means that you just have the
 pads
of the headset resting on top of your ears rather than being in a cup
 form
and going all the way round your ears. ugg i really hate those headsets.
That's been my worst problem in the past getting the thing home then
 finding
those ear cups. I would also like the headset i go for to bbe one where
 the
band goes across the top of your head rather than round the back of your
head, i'm not sure if there is a technicle term for that.
my last problem is the mic i'm after one where the mic is adjustable but
 not
where the boom, by boom i think i'm using the right term i mean the
 actual
part you talk in to. anyway what i really hate with a lot of headsets
 i've
recently sceen is where the boom as in the bit on the end of the swivel
 arm
that is used to put the mic away when you have finished talking is on
 like
 a
kind of bendy stalk thing. I no a lot of sites say they are designed to
 be
bent to make mic adjustment easier, but i find they break so quickly its
 very anoying.
If anyone has any thoughts i'd like to here them.
 Thanks for your help.
 Alex.

 Hi Dean,

Yes. In the menu where it says select, start your number 1 Harley. Down
arrow four times to adjust volume and press enter. That will allow you to
set the volume of the voices and the rest of the sounds.

BTW Monday or Tuesday I will be putting up Homer on a Harley version 3.
It will have a key (the right control key) to announce the speed slash
rpm. It will also have a practice mode, a points system and bonus
 Harleys.

Yes, I see your point there.
Perhaps a few more sub categories would be in order, maybe something like
 this:
  best overall commercial game
  best overall free game
  best strategy game
 best action game
 best sports game
best mud if there are new ones
  best fps
 best fantasy game

Would this cover it? Each sub category would be broken down into free
 and
 commercial as well.
  Thoughts?

 Hi Charles,
Yeah, I am not sure how many words per minute 45% is in Jaws, but that
is around what I have Jaws 9 set to on my laptop when I am using the
shark. With Eloquence 45% is pretty fast. Certainly a lot faster than
FreeTTS is in the Game Book.

 Jeremy,

I wrote the sound part of the 7-128 Software games.

It sounds like you have the Game Voice (our name for FreeTTS) on at the
 same time as JAWS.

Just press the Equals Key and wait for a moment.
That turns the Game Voice off and on.
The Game Voice itself should say Game Voice is off when you do this.

If you want the Game Voice back on, just press the Equals Key again and
 wait for a moment.
The Game Voice should then say Game Voice is on.

When you exit the Game Book, it remembers whether you have the Game Voice
on or off, so you only have to do this once.

Once you have the speech the way you want it, you might press the F2 key
 to
get tips especially organized for gamers who are blind. Try this anywhere
in the Game Book and you should get information specific to where you are.

Hello everyone,
I am kind of new at sending messages to people, but I hope to do better
in the future. I do have a question it is about Microsoft flight simulator
 2002.
I have heard from the internet, and by Scott Shades podcasts that you can
perform a simulated flight using FS Navigator along with using some
 additional
add ons.Mr. Shade has taught me alot on what to do , but he has not
completely shown how to move the aircraft while on the ground, and the
 takeoff thru
the landing phase. If you have any suggestions or experience that you will
share I would be greatly appreciated. I know that some blind people might
 think
that it is a waste of time learning how to fly a plane, but I used to be
a pilot in my former sighted life, and if anyone trying this needs any
 help just
ask, after all those of us without sight have to band together for what we
want. I think that it is a shame that more pc games are not accessible to
 the
blind gamer. Well thanks for letting me bend your ear for a minute or two.
Take care all and have a nice day.
   Sincerly Bo

 Hi,
I answered Shane's question off list, but I want to share the solution
here so others don't make the same mistake. The Montezuma's Return
manual as well as the USA Games FAQ page specifically state the proper
 order of installation is:

 1. Install .NET Framework 3.0.
 2. Install DirectX August 2007.
 3. Install USA Games product or products.

Failing to install our games in this exact order will cause our games to
crash and fail. The reason is DirectX will not properly install and
register it's .NET components unless a working and properly registered
.NET Framework is installed first. Unfortunately, this tends to be our
number one problem amung new USA Games customers, and we strongly
recommend reading our docs before doing an install the first time.

 Shane Davidson wrote:
Ok, after installing direct X august 2007 and dot net framework 3.0 from
the usagames.us website, I installed both STFC and montazoomas return on
this new installation of windows with dotnet3.0 and directX august 2007,
when starting either game I get an error report dialogue with both send
 and don't send buttons.
Any idea why this would be happening?
Remember dot net framework 3.0 and directX august 2007 are both
 installed
 thanks.

[Audyssey] 7-128 computer games for every one.

2008-01-27 Thread Jeremy Gilley
Is anyone familiar with 7-128 computer games for every one?
my wife just bought me a CD with the games. I am trying to play them using
jaws but the sounds keep stalling my jaws or breaking it up horribly, when I
use jaws, and I am wondering if I can just turn all sounds off when running
the game and just use jaws. The voice that came with the book I am not able
to understand it and therefore not able to use it...
any tips or suggestions would be appreciated... thanks.

am wondering about the most accessible / friendly mud client that
 you've used?...

I.E. I'd really like one that automagically reads the incoming text
if I can get one. -Shy of that, I'd like one that's pretty much the
easiest one you've found. I'm not a huge gamer, so really don't want
a lot of fuss, I just want to check out a couple of quick things, so
am really looking for the least lead time / effort. Just want to hop
on and off without a lot of extraneous key strokes / navigation and
 such...

I've found mention of Nuntius and MudWalker, and out of those,
MudWalker supposedly doesn't speak incoming text without review. So
 are there others?...

Thanks so much for your time and catch y'all on the flip!

Have an awesome rest of your weekend!...

Over the course of the month I have seen questions about Linux, sound

A funny story.
When the SIMs first came out, I got a copy and made a baby.
(Don't ask. It was very tame)
But then the baby started crying. Seems it needed something, like food
 maybe.
Well, my wife and I never had kids. So I know absolutely nothing about
 babies.
Then a thunder storm started outside our (real) house.
So I had to save and shut down quick.
But the dratted SIMs game didn't make it clear how to save and get out.
And that dratted baby kept crying.
Finally, I just killed the program (and presumably the baby)

 So much for child rearing.

I know that this is a slight non-sequetor, but I was wondering. Why are
there no games which are round-based instead of turn-based. Maybe there
 are
some, but I've never seen any.

What I mean is this. There are two players, players A and B. They choose
what action they would like to perform, then they hit finish or complete
 or
something. When both players have hit there complete buttons, they both
 do
the action as simultaneously as possible. In other words, in many games,
 all
things being equal, the first player can win simply because they're first.
In this system, there is no first. It's a matter of what and when you do
whatever it is you're going to do.

Sorry about the off-topic. As a side note, actually on topic, I'd love to
 know more about this game.

I don't mean to seem stupid, but this is the first I've heard about it.

 Hi Damien.

You are right Damien, indeed, that would imho improve the game.

also, to add strategical elements, you could considder a number of
 variable
weapons, with different hit or miss probabilities, different levels of
damage, and (possibly), more turns to load or equip.

so for example you could have a grenade launcher, taking two turns to
 load,
but doing a lot more damage, or a throwing knife, instant loading and as
damaging as the gun, but more likely to miss.

Depending upon how far you wanted to take this concept, you could
 considder
some other ideas, such as you having an increased chance of being hit, or
 an

increased amount of damage depending upon what weapon you last used and
 what

 your enemy hits you with.

so for example, if your using a gun or a bomb or other ranged weapon your
 at

a greater distance from the enemy, so less likely to be damaged than when
your up close using the bullwhip, or another short range weapon such as a
 knife or chain saw.

another possible factor you could play with might be the idea of it taking
longer to change from one weapon to another depending upon what your
 using.
so for example, it takes two hands to load a gun, thus you take an extra
turn to pull out your whip, where as if you wished to throw a knife while
using a bullwhip, you could do it instantaniously.

All of these are possible ideas for making the combat in acefire more
tactical. of course, there could stil be a random chance element (there is
in most turn based combat systems, particularly those with dice), but with
some of these sorts of things thrown into the mix, the player would have
 to
think strategically as well, which imho is never a bad thing.

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

 Hi Dark,
Without knowing it you just gave me a good idea. No, before, everything,
including how many times weapons missed, was completely random. But
 you've
made me actually think about one weapon more likely to hit than another.

 Thanks.

 Damien

 Hi Charles,

Cool, Thanks. Yes, the track is a bit long if say you stay in first gear
the entire time. What I do is to hold down the control key to
continuously accelerate and use the up arrow key to shift gears. I also
use the left arrow key to get to the left side of the track. I get into
sixth gear just before the second turn. I now let off of the control key,
hold down the left arrow key and start pressing the down arrow key to down
shift all the way back down to first gear. Then you know line up on the
ramp and accelerate back up to the speed I need. Of course that is just
for the first few buses. After awhile you don't have time to slow all the
way down and accelerate back up. But anyway that does make the trip to
the ramp quicker. I did make the track long enough to fully accelerate up
through all six gears. So 32 was the maximum number of buses that you
could do in version 1, I believe. With the rocket booster in version 2, I
believe that 40 is the maximum now.

So far 23 is my record, so I have not maxed out the game yet.

 BFN

 Jim

 Some

 this

hi phil. I'm quite impressed with the quiditch pitch. The sound the
bludgers makes when they injure sarah is perfect. Its spookie. I wanted to
keep the quiditch pitch for last after i have solved the other puzzles but
i wanted to see what happens if i go out of an owlery window while on my
broom. I haven't been to the forbidden forest. I catched the snitch very
easily. I just side stepped a few times and then i got it. I'm playing on
easy difficulty. I'm just very disappointed that the game locks up if i
get close to the motor bike. When i managed to catch the snitch i heard
the caretaker talking with sarah and then i hear dementors. It seems like
they carry sarah away. When i finish the game i would like to hear
congrachulations, you have completed sarah and the castle of witchcraft
and wizardry successfully. After the dementors i hear sarah saying the
money left in her bag and then i hear the pcs games logo tune. If i have
to do something to prevent the dementors from taking sarah away please
don't give the solution, i want to figure it out first. I just thought of
mentioning it to you in case its a bug. Please also note that the troll on
floor7 doesn't eat any bad candy. The only way to get past it is to stun
it. Also no password works on the lady in the portrait. According to one
of the books harry and his friends spoke the picksnout password to go in
and out of the castle so i suppose its probably another way to get to the
quiditch pitch but if i try picksnout the lady says no password no
entrance. No other password works either. i still have the problem that
when i arrow down my inventory to get to the crystal ball the game locks
up. I'll have to start the game all over from the ground floor and try to
get rid of unnecessary inventory items. I'll eat all sweets as i pick them
up and stuff such as those in the room of requirement i'll store in the
broom cupboard. Hopefully the game won't lock up if i scroll down my
inventory. It appears that i can't drop a nimbus broom if i have 3. If i
try to drop a magic or normal broom if i have more than one, both brooms
are dropped instead. And if i drop books i have read in the library it
should also solve my inventory problem. I just wish you can soon do
 something about the motor bike.

[Audyssey] Pinball game suggestion

2008-01-05 Thread Jeremy Gilley
Greetings all,
I was just throwing this out as a suggestion to the programmers... I was
wondering if there could be a football pinball game.
Like in baseball tables you have to do a bit of running depending on where
the ball landed. Whell why not a play for yards? and also have a fieldgoal
kick off and such?
Just thought I would see what everyone thinks.

Re: [Audyssey] Raceway for Mac or Linux?

2008-01-02 Thread Jeremy Gilley
um, i thought we weren't slamming people on here? he was just trying to make
the game more friendly to most players, or that is what i had gathard.
a game developer would try to suit everyone and not just a certain group of
people.
I am a windows user, but if i wern't and i heard about this raceway being
made and i had not a windows computer and i could not play it on my own
system, i would be slightly disappointed, but then again, i would also hate
to see any features taken out of a game just to do so, but i can see it from
the other side of the fence.
sorry, just my 2 cents, and tryhing to see the issue from my side and the
programmers side as well... tough choice to make... and i wish you all the

Thomas, you are now james nord and your job is to complete raceway!!!
There several people here who have orderet the game a 3 years ago and you?
 You relax and say:
Yes, i have all time of my life!
I make a mac and linux version!
 Oh man boy!
If you looking for a new language, you lost time!
 And the game?
The game will bee ready in 2009 or 10!!!
Your job is to complete the game not to experiment with it!!
If you develop raceway Thomas, you aren't Thomas you are James Nord!!!
And James Nord have shipped the Keys and now you have the job to complete
 the game.
If the game is ready for release, you can doo anywere but not now!!!
You haven't the time for experiment with the game!!!

 Hi,

 Quote
hmm one wild idea I can think of is maybe 3 different versions of
 raceway.
 I
mean really 3 different version, wouldn't it rock having to code all
 that?
 End quote

Not hardly. Parish the thought. It is bad enough writing one version let
alone three completely new versions from scratch. Smile

 Quote
although ya know, aren't lenux and max almost the same opporating system
 as
in mac is bassed off lenux?
 End quote

That isn't true. Mac OS X is based off the BSD kernel and operating
system not Linux. Not only that they use completely different APIs for
programming various things. For example, they have two completely
different Windows developer kits for programmers. If i want to write
something for Mac, and it is a graphical application, I need to use
Cocoa which is Mac's special graphical user interface. If I want to
design a similar application for Linux I will have to use GTK+ which is
the accessible graphical user interface developers kit for Linux.
So there is nothing simple here about doing this. There is allot of
differences between operating systems that would need solved, and I
suppose I could build the application in separate parts that could be
assembled based on os. Here is platform independant game core, here is
platform specific user interface, bla. Lots and lots to think about.

 Hi everyone:
 H
Appy New Year's and a question.

Does anyone know a mud client I can use with windows Vista? I use monkey
term with my xp system with the scripts for self speaking with Jaws.
However when I installed Monkey Term as administrator that worked
 perfectly
but when I tried to run the monkey lib file it would not register the
 regsrvr.dll file.

Any ideas of what I can try to do this or install it? If not, does anyone

Thanks in advance. If scripts are needed also, where can I get them at?

 Hi Willem,
True. For people in the UK, US, etc $5.00 isn't a huge amount of savings
for a game, but at least I am glad it was enough to get sales going
again. For the last few days leading up to Christmas and the three days
after there were no sales inquaries etc so I thought I would cut prices
for a few days and see what happpens. Well, more people felt the price
was right and sales have dramatically picked up.
I suppose once I go to full price it will slow down again, but for the
moment anyway I really do need to focuss more on finishing the game
rather than processing orders and answering tech support questions. So a
slow down for a couple of weeks or so might be helpful in that regard.
Thanks everyone for ordering. I appreciate your sales.

lol yes us people are like that. It's pure psychology as $5 would make a

Hello,
I am wondering if anyone knows if the pinball games, the party pack of
pinball, monkey business and and other games from The Draconis Shop can be
played on vista windows... if so, they have a huge order coming soon...
those games look sweet.

Here is a question, if you buy a year perscription of the game, and you use

you want to restart your char, do you get all that back? or is that all

 Hi,
Yeah, and you might want to point out to Geremy that when using a skill
like distruction in combat you need a very high skill level with it to
do any good. I wouldn't even consider it as a weapon unless it is 30 or
higher. Idealy 40 and greater is better when dealing with boss creatures
and certain magical creatures that won't go down without one serious
 battle onyour hands.
I restarted Kira around Halloween time and I only have her two magic
skills in the 20's right now. Neither are of much use at this point as
they often fizzle, but it sometimes works on the easier monsters.

 Hi.

With the combat styles, it's simply all about the damage. the need to roll
number for the enemy is stil the same Eg: 9 or 10 for a this enemy has
 the
upper hand, but only slightly So the number you need to roll doesn't
 change.

What alters is the amount of damage you and the enemy recieve during a
 round
 of combat.

so if you roll dead on the need to role number (9 or 10 in the above
example), using a normal style, you and the enemy both take 4 damage.
 using
aggressive style, you would take 5 damage and your enemey only 4, while
using defensive you would only take 3 damage while your enemy took 4.

On the other hand, if you roll above the need to roll number, you'll do
 far
more damage to your enemy with aggressive attacks than with normal, and
comparatively litle with defensive, (on a so you think this enemy is
already finished enemy with a need to roll of 3, a 320 on aggressive will
do 39 damage I believe, where as with a normal attack it will only do 25,
AND DEFENSIVE i BELIEVE WILL ONLY DO 16 (THOUGH i'M NOT CERTAIN ABOUT THAT
 ONE).

Stratogy wise, I use aggressive at the start of battles, to see if I can
 get
in a lucky blow, normal in mid battle, and edefensive towards the end, to
see if I can outlast my enemy.

Aggressive style though can also help in fights like the ice demon, where
the enemy is quite pathetic in normal combat rounds, but has some nasty
unavoidable special attacks, so it's advisable to get rid of him doing as
 much damage as possible.

 Hth.

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

I am starting to wish i started with that, i started out with
elementalism... and so far i am not all that happy with it.
it seams like distruction or that telecanecis or how ever it is spelled or
maybe 1 other power is always being used, but hardly ever elementalism
unless directly in the middle of a combat.- Original Message -

I agree. Once you get a power to thirty i've noticed it tends to fizzle out
a lot less and, in the case of Destruction, it does more damage. I've got
Charisma's destruction up to sixty and it's quite a formidable force.

 Hi ,
Yes. All the powers are useful at some point. One adventure that comes
to mind is the one where you sign on as a sailer and the ship gets
caught in the storm and nearly gets destroyed by a title wave. With a
reasonable degree of elementalism you can stop the storm or control the
 waves.

 dark wrote:
elementalism actually sees quite a lot of use, it all depends upon the
adventure. You can acquire all the powers in the game in various ways,
sometimes as rewards for adventures, or you can buy them from the
 greycircle
in Talinus using xp (more xp depending upon how many powers you have), or
when you've done the appropriate adventures,if you've got an Adventurer's
guild subscription, you can go to the Adventurer's collective in Trythic
 and
buy powers (and skills), with gold and adventurer' tocans.

 Hth.

hello all,
I am Jeremy, I just joined the list last night, and I just saw that you were
talking about the game I have been trying to play for a while now.
I have a question about this, how does anyone use the maps in the caves? it
seams like a maze and I get lost trying to explore around in there.
as where in other areas, the rooms of the area I am trying to look through
are in a way that I can remember that I have been there.
any help would be appreciated.
