Re: [Audyssey] playing aardwolf?
Hi, I'm playing Aardwolf for several years now and really like it. It's easy to get around and finding the area you want, because the game has built in speedwalks. The newbie zone is one of the best I've ever seen, the whole newbie academy is a rather involved quest in itself. Yes, there are these quests where you go to a questmaster and get a mob you have to kill for quest points, but there are other quests as well. These others are called goals and are area quests, where you start it and even get a quest log with tasks to complete for the goal. These goals are quite more involved than the killing type and can be rather difficult. I got stuck for while myself on two of these already, but there was a reasonable solution all the time, I just didn't see it. Lol. What everyone should know is that the areas in this mud are not all stricktly fantasy. There are all sorts of areas, including Sci-Fi themed ones and outright crazy or funny ones, but that's what I like about this game. Re: [Audyssey] How Do Dr. Bastard's Tarot Cards Work InAudioDefenceFor iOS?
Hi, I don't think restarting the game when you died is cheating either. After all, you get bonuses for staying in, but you have to use diamonds for that. So I can perfectly understand this system here, and it's each player's choice to do one or the other. Regarding the reshuffling of cards, Dark explained really well what I meant in the message below. And in some way I do compete against others, there is a highscore list for endless mode in gamecenter after all. I like Dark's idea of giving a slight advantage to players who don't reshuffle the cards, especially because the reduction of coins gained wouldn't have an impact on the highscores. But like he said, for such changes to be built in, the developers need to know that there are certain difficulties in the game for people with hearing impairments. It may well be that they didn't think about it, since the game is built with blind accessibility in mind. Even with such kind of awareness, other disabilities may be overlooked when such a game is developed. And yes, some of you may say that the highscore list doesn't matter as much, but in a game like this it matters for me, at least to some extent. Best regards Sarah Am 27.11.2014 12:36, schrieb dark: Hi Tom. the issue is not whether you can shuffle the cards, but the fact that while currently you can do so for free through a game bug, that is likely not to be the case in the future, equally, as Sarah said, the things that clutter up the audio landscape are in this case quite deliberately meant to be hard to hear. the best way around this I could see would be a system that would allow people to effectively stack the deck of tarot cards for a percentage reduction in coins. Say for example there were 20 cards in the deck, every card that was removed, thus making that particularcondition or event not to occur in an endless game gave a %5 reduction in coins gained from zombies. That way players could still get the challenge, but there would be a bonus in the game to those who wanted the full range of conditions available, they would get more coins and thus earn their weapon upgrades faster, though equally being a percentage bonus it would not bar players without those conditions from earning them either. Of course, you could have free mode or condition setting, but to be honest I rather like the random idea in the tarot cards, and I believe part of their point is that you don't know from game to game what the background conditions are, thus making eaceh game of what is essentially an arcade game a bit more unique, some with faster zombies, some with zombies that are more aggressive, some with zombies that give coin bonuses etc. Of course, Somethinelse would need to know that there were players who's hearing problems caused the background conditions to be difficult, in order for them to make this sort of change. Re: [Audyssey] How Do Dr. Bastard's Tarot Cards Work InAudioDefenceFor iOS?
Hi, of course, the game is built with accessibility in mind. But it is built with accessibility for the blind in mind. People with hearing impairments were not considered here, and it was never said that the game was accessible for hearing impaired people. That may have been a right or wrong choice by the developer, I really don't want to commend that. But the thing is, that you can't build certain games without leaving someone out. Games which depend on graphics can't be played by blind players. And as hard as it may sound, games which depend on hearing can't be played by people with hearing impairments in most cases. That's because in all honesty, games with easy to hear things would often be too easy for blind players. These thunderstorms and alarms are in the game to be a challenge after all, not just for the sake of some rules. And if you build a way in to reshuffle tarot cards for free, the game wouldn't be a challenge anymore for everyone who can hear normally. The thought behind the system is, that you either can face the challenge you get or change it for a price. To be honest, I really don't know how to help people like Theresa out here without making the game too easy for everyone else. After all, this game is not really about mastering some complicated mechanics, it's just about locating zombies and shoot them. There has to be some kind of challenge in there somewhere. Hi, there actually is an accessible Pokémon game in development right now. It covers quite a bit of the original Pokémon game for the gameboy already and is certainly playable. And it's a lot of fun! Keep in mind though that this is still in development, so it still contains some bugs and the game content is not complete yet. The download link for the current version is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9cj4yn3os2ypq … .0.3.0.zip There is a topic on the audiogames.net forum, too. Re: [Audyssey] Harry Potter muds
Hi, I recently started one called Cleft oof dimensions. It is not very different in gameplay terms from other mud I've played so far, but the thing I like about it is it's theme. It is based of of old console games, especially old nintendo titles like Zelda, Final Fantasy, secret of mana or even Super Mario. You can find references to these games everywhere, you can fight goombas, coopas and other enemies from these games and even visit Bowser in higher levels. I even found a question mark block with a mushroom in it when I was exploring a newbie zone a few days ago! Lol. The player base is fairly small, but they seem to be nice people and helpfull. The game seems to be playable very well with screen readers, and people seem to like it when blind folks come to play there. I'm not the only blind player as far as other players told me, though I've not met another one yet. The game has classes and races, the races are inspired from old games as well. I'm playing a Kirby right now. :D There are quests as well, the thing I like about them is that you can type quests wherever you are and get a list of them for the area you are in. There seems to be some kind of crafting as well, but I've not played so far yet and don't know what you can do there. The connection info is: cod.mudmagic.com, Port 4354 Best regards Sarah --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Some practical questions reguarding the Monopoly game
Hi Milos, I myself played the digital and physical versions of monopoly, so I'll try and answer your questions. When you buy a property, you just put the money for it in the bank and take the card with the info for the property you bought. Regarding the money distribution, I can't remember how it's done. But in the games manual should be a section telling you how many of each type everyone should get at the beginning of the game. If your game doesn't have an accessible manual, maybe someone sighted can take a look for you into the printed one. When you mortgage a property, the rule I know is to turn the card of the mortgaged property around, so that the backside faces upwards. This way everyone can see that this property is mortgaged. Hope this helps and best regards Sarah - Original Message - From: Milos Przic milos.pr...@gmail.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, December 02, 2013 2:12 AM Subject: [Audyssey] Some practical questions reguarding the Monopoly game Hi all, I think that this is not Off-Topic. It is about a game that is accessible, although it is not neither video nor audio game but a braille monopoly that I ordered on Ebay and it arrived some time ago. Now I am trying to play and have some questions, and if this is off-topic I will make no objections if the moderators close it. First, let me say that I know the rules and that I am very experienced player in all audio versions of Monopoly. So the rules are not the problem, but the questions are about applying them in the physical game, that is, how to do some things that the computer does in a digital version instead. 1. When your token lands on a field and you want to buy it, how do you do it? Do you just take the card where that property info is written? 2. How does one distribute the money? The board comes with a number of banknotes of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 and 500 dollars. How to distribute the money at the beginning so that everyone has 1500 dollars as the rules state, and still to be able to pay, say, 2, 3, 14 or 223 dollars? 3. How to mark a property that is mortgaged? Another set of questions may come up soon, so thanks in advance! Re: [Audyssey] Some practical questions reguarding the Monopoly game
Hi Milos, sure you can do that. The player who gets paid can give back the rest, or you can change money in the bank if a player maybe has too many or not enough notes of one kind. That's vital to the game, if you couldn't do these things you would get stuck all the time because of lack of the right money. Re: [Audyssey] Wrecking Ball v2 about to be released, feedback sought
Hi Ken, I tried the first version of the game only once and that was quite a while ago, so I don't know if the things I want to suggest here maybe already are in the game. So please bare with me if I say things here that are no longer needed. I remember from the sighted version of wrecking ball a block, which gave you a sticky padle. The ball would stick on it and you could shot it wherever you wanted. Another block gave you a padle with double length, so it was easier to hit the ball back. Also there were some kind of boss levels with one big monster thingy, but I really don't remember how exactly they worked. Re: [Audyssey] Zany touch some questions
Hi Dark, I'll try to answer at least a few of your questions here. As far as I know, the background music doesn't change at all, it just gets faster and stays at the fastest level when you play long enough. I really can't remember now what the differences between the free and paid versions are, I have the paid version for quite some time now. It could be that just advertisements get removed. Regarding the gestures, the swipe is just a swipe with one finger. And the pinch is a lot more difficult here than in Smack me if you ask me. I myself lose quite often when pinching comes up. The main thing is that you have to be really quick on doing it, even when the game speed is still slow at the beginning. And make sure that both fingers with wich you perform the gesture touch the screen properly. That's all I can tell you really. Hope this helps out a bit. [Audyssey] Revelation by Aprone, cool game but beta problems
Hi, first, I think that this game is really cool. I played around with it a bit and found quite a few recipes already. I realize that this is a beta still, so bugs are to be expected. I just thought I'd give a report of what I noticed. After playing the game for a while things get really confused for some reason. For example, when I get two new items out of a combination, sometimes one of the new items doesn't appear in the list. The same happens when I undo a recipe, so I only get one of the items back and not both of them. Additionally, some item counts suddenly start to grow when they shouldn't, I suddenly had 6 apples at one time for example, although I didn't do anything to produce apples at all. Some items on the other hand suddenly simply vanish completely from the list, though I didn't use them. And sometimes I have multiple list entries for the same item, for example I had three or for times grass in there once. Unfortunately, I can't really tell when these bugs come up, it all seems pretty random to me. But nevertheless, this game is really great and I simply want to find more combinations and almost can't stop trying new things out. Great idea, once again. *smiles* Best regards Sarah --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hi Keith, Alter Aeon does have a prompt too, but when you use MushZ to play it is turned off by default and you get the infos through sounds from the client. In many games it helps to type help prompt. In others the prompt is part of a settings or configuration screen, so try typing help settings or help configure. That should work most times. [Audyssey] Accessible fruit machine for iPhone question
Hi, I just got the accessible fruit machine from the App store today and played a bit. I also listened to the podcast on applevis, and as far as I understood it the game should start with 6 symbols and you have to unlock the others by getting enough points. I can set the symbols in play to 16 and they all show up on the reels, in the prices list there are only seven symbols listed though. Re: [Audyssey] Vip Games Zone
Hi, I found another big problem with these games. You can use your registration keys on another computer, but you have to unregister the games on the old computer first. The problem with that is, that when for example you old computer simply dies and you can no longer access it, you have to write to Vipgameszone to have your games unregistered with them so you can install them on your new computer. Well, as long as it gets here in one piece it's alright I guess. *grins* I think this is a great idea you had there! Re: [Audyssey] Message for Draconis.
Hi, yeah, I also would like to be able to post scores with the new version. Josh stated that he wanted to see how the scoreboards are used before adding it to new games, but I think this approach is a bit tricky. Not all older titles have score posting to start with. And now that the new game is out, people want to play the new game which can't send scores, so naturally scoreboards are not used. I hope you can see what I mean here. I actually have the same problem. I love the new change reaction and play it often, but to be able to send scores and show that I will use the boards I have to play older titles which I don't want to play as much right now. Difficult situation I think. Best regards Sarah --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Mysteries of the Ancients Considerations
Hi Thomas, well, as far as I can remember you didn't really make it clear that all these Betas just were tests for your engine, which you can gather from the fact that I'm not the only one who understood it wrong. I thought, like others here did too, that these Betas were actual steps towards the completed game. And now you are saying that you finally after six years you will start working on the game seriously. Maybe this time was needed, but maybe you can understand that it feels a bit weird to read this after such long time of already released Betas and stuff. My commend about you not working on it every day was not even meant to be harsh or anything. I just know myself that reall life is more often in the way than we all like when doing something, so I think it's reasonable to say that it probably will take a bit longer than you might think now. I think you could get some angry messages again when you now say it will go quickly and than your time becomes less for some reason. I'll certainly not chime in in flames or anything, but just the story of James you told says enough about such things I think. I actually would be completely alright if you would do it like Draconis and tell nothing much until the game is ready, maybe that would make your life easier too. I don't really need a daily report from a developer, I was completely happy to for example wait for the Windows version of Change Reaction until it was there, and it was alright for me to just see the messages from Draconis which just said that it's almost there. Of course that is your decision, it's just something I was thinking about. We all see how quickly those discussions can get heated and longer than they need be and how quickly old stories are rehashed even though they have nothing to do with you or the current situation. That's actually something which makes me frustrated, that this community obviously can't let old things drop and that the most messages in this list are written when there is something to complain about. Finally to your original question. Yes, I was frustrated first when you send this because it really seemed like you changed your mind once again. But now I can see what's the deal here. I'd like to have a game like the original one on the Attari, I loved to play these old games when I was still sighted. And if you are sure that you now can do it fairly quickly, I think it's alright. I just think you should get something ready, not so much because of me or anyone, but because I think you also need the sence of finally having completed a long project for a change. Re: [Audyssey] Mysteries of the Ancients Considerations
Hi Thomas, honestly, I have to stop myself from screaming out loud when I read one of these messages from you in which you change your plans again, and again, and again... I think you get my drift here. Just finally finish something, ok? And honestly, even if you say it would not take long to finish a game now that your engine is ready, I can't really believe that you indeed will work on it from now on on every day until the end of the summer. That said, it certainly will mean delay. I'm looking forward to the day when you send a release note to the list, or at least a message which speaks of developement progress and not of another change of mind. [Audyssey] Playing MP3 files in a browser Was: My First Impressions of Change Reaction 2 for Windows
Hi, just a quick note about playing MP3 files in a browser. The difference to Youtube videos is, that I can see how long a video is, I can pause and resume the playback and fast forward it, etc. Usually when a MP3 starts playing in Firefox, I just get a blank page and can just sit there and listen to the file, hoping it doesn't last too long for my time right now. Seeing this, I find it much more convenient to just download the file and play it in my own player, so that I have some kind of control over the playback and the time I spend with it. This of course would be something different if sites which play files directly in a browser would provide a reasonable player, just like Youtube does. Re: [Audyssey] News from Blastbay Studios, and a call for opinions
Hi, great to hear that something is on the way, this sounds really cool. Here are my answers to your questions: 1. I personally don't need a CD. If I wanted to backup the file, I could just as easily create a CD with the setup file myself. Besides, it would take ages to get to me due to distance. Download is just so much quicker. 2. 300 MB is perfectly fine, I often download files which are a lot bigger than that. I gladly take better sound quality for a larger file. 3. For the manual it would be great to have both HTML and a kind of audio tutorial with example sounds etc. This way, everyone can use the prefered method and I myself get a new game better when I have an audio example. On the other side though, I like to have a list of keystrokes which I can look up in a text file. 4. I don't think it should be possible to buy cheats, maybe just expansions for the game which may come later. As long as the game gives some kind of hint what I have to do to get the cheats or unlockables, I'm perfectly fine with getting these things by playing the game. I'm really looking forward to this new project, and thanks for letting us give our input on things beforehand. *smiles* Best regards Sarah --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hi, I'll most certainly use the scoreboards, especially when the new Changereaction for Windows is released. The features you mentioned sound great, I like to try to get achievements in games and such, there are for example quite a few accessible iPhone games where this is possible. Re: [Audyssey] A Possible Offer To Consider
Hi, since these games work under Windows 7, and since Windows 7 has a good bit of years ahead of it, I'd say don't invest so much time for rewriting these titles. Everyone who wants to keep playing them can do so for years to come, and after that time I hope we have more things to play than these games. Besides, you have enough of work to do with your own games, which wait for completion for quite a long time now after all. I really don't like the idea of you spending time on these old games, which also would lead to more postponing of your own titles. I'd rather see your own titles finally completed than remakes of BSC titles. And no, I wouldn't spend money for remakes, since I have the current versions and will keep playing them as long as I find I way to get them running. Much more important for me would be to have a possibility for others to get these games after the company closes, which would be enough to keep them alive in my opinion. Re: [Audyssey] Puppet nightmares question
Hi Dark, ok, I know what you mean. You can look up skills for your party when you get them, but when an enemy uses something in battle that you don't know and you only can look it up afterwards, the description is kind of lacking there. In Final Fantasy games for example you get really cool animations with some skills and especially for guardian forces and souch. This adds quite a bit to the athmosphere of the game. Re: [Audyssey] Puppet nightmares question
Hi Dark, sure, I'll add you when I play next time. I also noticed that you can get credits from simply playing the game. I like this system, since you don't have to donate to get anything. I can't really say anything about the skills in battle yet, since I didn't play in the last days due to lack of time. But I'll take a look at it and then I'll probably see what you mean. I don't think it's too bad if you have to look something up when you first get a skill, I think after some time you remember its affect anyway. But maybe more description of the skill in battle would add some athmosphere to it. Hi Richard, I can understand your problem. And for some reason, webvisum doesn't work with this site. Hi Dark, ok, thanks. I'll do that and see where it goes from there. I actually ended up in a dungeon once already, but it was by accident because I didn't know where to go. But I saw the tables for fighting there, which look a bit complicated at first. But since I don't have a party yet, it was pointless so I exited again. Hi Dark, yeah, I think this complexity will keep me playing too, it gets boring quickly when such a game is too simple or repetitive. Re: [Audyssey] Puppet nightmares question
Hi Dark, first, I'm glad your arm is better and you can type again, at least a bit. And cool thing that your exerzises saved you here, a broken arm would have been not good at all. And now, I have a puppet nightmares question too, which I sent first time when you couldn't type, so I'll try again now. I started the game and got to the first page of the tutorial. The toymaker tells me to click the arrows to continue the story, but I can't find any arrows on the site. There is a grafic labled arrow in the tutorial text, but it doesn't seem possible to click this one. Since you wrote in the description on audiogames.net that there sometimes are hotspots in the text, I even tried to click on the word arrows in the tutorial text, but nothing. I'm using Firefox and NVDA. Any help here would be great. Re: [Audyssey] Puppet nightmares question
Hi Dark, ok, thanks for the info. I think the first text from the toymaker is a bit misleading then, since I'm already in the game and he tells me to continue with the story. But well, I'll try what you said then. The funny thing is, even the journal at this point tells me to click on the arrows I can't even find. Regarding mouse over text, I think NVDA reads that pretty well if you're positioned on a button or link, so this should be no problem. [Audyssey] Puppet nightmares question
Hi, since Puppet Nightmares was a topic here quite a few times now and it sounds like a good game, I registered today to try it myself. The problem is though, that I can't even get past the starting point. The toy maker in the tutorial says I should click the arrows to continue with the story. But I can't find any arrows to click anywhere on the site. I even tried the journal to see if it says where to go next, but it just says the same thing, to click some arrows I can't find. Re: [Audyssey] Desura
Hi Ryan, I just took a look at this thing, since it interested me that blindside now is available on PC too. Unfortunately, you really need this Desura program to install and play the game. Desura seems to be something like Steam is, a program you install to be able to install and play certain games and take part in the community there. The bad thing is, that Desura seems to be as inaccessible as Steam, since I wasn't even able to install this thing. I was using Firefox and NVDA. The installation of Desura opens some kind of web form which I couldn't read. Maybe it works with other screen readers, but I can do nothing here. Sorry to tell you that, but that's just what I found out. Hi Ryan, well, it's possible that the game developer doesn't know how inaccessible Desura is. Maybe you could send them a message. Re: [Audyssey] acive muds you all play
Hi Keith, in Mushclient, you only need the first three fields in the dialogue for new muds. The first one is indeed the name of the mud. The second one is for either the url like Moo.squidsoft.net or the ip-adress like 192.168.154.92. You only need one of these in this field, not both. The adress field which comes afterwards is for proxie server info only, you don't need that at all. It's possible that you got so many errors because you put something in this adress field. [Audyssey] The inquisitor audio adventure problems
Hi, I have to admit I'm a little annoyed right now, because I spent my money for a game which doesn't work properly. I got the game for my iPhone 4. The description in the Appstore clearly states that it works with this iPhone, but I have quite a few problems with it. The first thing is, that the game keeps skipping sounds or words in dialogues. And this does not just happen once in a while, but every few seconds actually. Which makes it quite difficult to understand what is said, not to mention that it's just unnerving. The second thing is, that the game doesn't react right to my commands. When I for example drag my finger downwards to open the inventory, the game just announces an object in the room as if I just had tapped with one finger. And there are more errors of this kind. So, this message actually has two purposes. First, I wanted to ask if someone else also has played the game on an iPhone 4 and if they had the same problems. Second, I will send a similar message to the game developer if someone has his email adress for me, which I can't find for some reason. Thanks for reading and any help. Hi, has anyone of you gotten tons of runtime errors with the new mushZ version too? I get them when using the riposte skill in battle, when identifying equipment, when playing the new gambling merchant game and in other places which I can't really point out, it seems random at times. This makes the game rather difficult to play. For one, I keep getting random chatter from NVDA about these errors and miss important things in battle, and besides I get no stats on items because on some error which happens when identifying. Hi, ok, at least I know now that I'm not the only one having these issues. Yes, the thing should be tested more before releasing, but I still hope it gets fixed soon nonetheless. Regarding stabilizing, I'm not really comfortable to work with a version when it was changed from the original code. If there is a way to fix the new version though, I'm willing to try it. I know a bit about programming, I hope it's enough for fixing these trigger issues. I'll not be there until tomorrow though, since it's pretty late here already.
