[Audyssey] game design

2015-05-28 Thread Marvin Hunkin
Hi.

Well, going to learn how to use the quintest html 5 and java script engine
next week.

Now, any people from Australia on here.

Need some one sighted maybe to create some cool images and also maybe record
recorded speech for the space invaders game.

As my mike is not really that great, built in into my Toshiba, and also my
headset not the best quality mike.

So this is a long shot.

My lectuer, said I could get some one sighted to design images and to record
speech.

Thanks.

Hi.
For voice over work you can advertize the job on list etc. You can
then choose who you want to say the dialogue and they could record the
dialogue.
Sound design is completely different from programming. You use a sound
editor to change the sounds the way you want. For raw sounds you can
either record them yourself or download sounds from the internet.

Re: [Audyssey] Game Design

2012-01-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Nicole,

Well, there are a couple of ways to get human actors for your games.
You can either ask people on list to volunteer to do the work for you,
or you can hire professional voice actors from a place like
http://www.voices.com.

As far as sound effects goes there are a number of websites that sell
sound effects for games, radio productions, and things like that.
There is shockwave-sound.com, sounddogs.com, audiosparks.com, to name
a few.

However, you will still need a good sound editor like Goldwave or
Soundforge to edit and modify the sounds as needed. A lot of times you
can't just take the sound you buy as is and throw it in a game. You
might need to modify it and tailor it to your needs.

As far as compilers and other development tools goes that all depends
on the programming language in question. There are several different
programming languages that have been developed over the years and
where you go to get the tools depends largely on who created the
language. For example, Microsoft created C# .NET and Visual Basic .NET
so obviously the tools for those languages can be found on Microsoft's
website. Sun created a language called Java and a lot of Java related
tools and things can be found on java.sun.com. Python is an open
source language and documentation, tools, and things like that can
usually be found on python.org. So there currently isn't any single
place to go to get programming related stuff. Although, that's
changing as I'm building such a website right now in my spare time.

As far as time goes that depends on your personal schedule and how
much free time you do and don't have to put towards programming. Its
possible to do both, but I will say that programming does take up a
lot of time. Especially, when you are first starting out and learning
the ropes so to speak. If you primarily want to spend your time
writing then you might want to outsource the programming to an audio
game developer who already has the programming skills you need.

that said, there are different degrees of complexity involved in
programming. A tool like Philip's BGT toolkit already has all the
complex programming done for you such as input support, audio support,
speech support, etc which means you can get down to the business of
creating your game right away. If you started out in an all purpose
programming language you could spend quite some time getting all the
basic code for input, audio, and speech working without even having
started on the game itself. So that's something to think about as
well.

Cheers!

game is based on the universe Yemora, and they pick from characters from
different books and stories. Where would I get the voices, I want to use
real people like like Phil Vlaysak. What about sound effects, and compilers?
Or should I just concentrate on the stories and have someone else design the
game? Would I be able to do both?

Re: [Audyssey] Game Design

2012-01-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Nicole,

Yes, generally speaking interactive fiction is text based, but not
always so. A person could write a game in a programming language and
add sounds, music, and output the text to Microsoft SAPI rather than
directly to the console as text based games usually do. It would still
be interactive fiction, but be designed with audio in mind rather than
straight text. Come to think of it there is nothing preventing a
developer from having a text based game with audio either.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Game Design

2012-01-24 Thread Philip Bennefall

Hi Nicole,

I am always available for contract work. I have done a few projects for
clients and they've been happy with my work, thus far. Smile.

I am the author of BGT that Thomas mentioned, and so if you wanted to learn
to use that I'd be more than happy to help.

Kind regards,

Philip Bennefall

How are audio games designed, and who can I contact about designing audion
games for me? I'm a budding novelist, and want to sell or have sold audio
games for my universe. How would work, like would I send them the books, and
they turn one into a game?

You could, possibly, use my mapData game engine to just render/generate
your own game renditions - to a certain extent - for now anyway:

http://www.blindza.co.za/work/#python

The backend lets you generate interactive fiction maps, that can then be
made use of/played around with in the front-end, and, yes, it's a bit
simple for now, but anyway...smile

Re: [Audyssey] Game Design

2012-01-24 Thread Willem Venter
Hi Nicole.
Firstly let me say that there is a big difference between a book and a
game derived from that same book. You will have to decide what type
of game you want to make. Interactive fiction and role playing games
is closer to the book form than a strategy game or fps. When you write
a story you can plan all the characters actions in advance, but with a
game you need to give a player some choices and think about the
results of those choices.

I know I might be stating the obvious to you, but I feel I need to
explain my advice. First choose the type of interaction the player
should have, then decide on the plot and flow of the game. If there
are actions in the game that depend on player stats or chance, give a
little mind to how it might work.

If you want to try programming, look at the resources Thomas
mentioned. This is your best bet on getting a game from your story. If
that does not work out, you might try to tempt someone on a list by
sending a short outline of the story and hoping for the best, but
writing a game with someone looking over your shoulder can be a
challenge for a programmer.

I know all this is full of generalities, but I hope it helps. Everyone
works out their own methods in the end.

 Hi Nicole,

Well, you can try and hire one of the accessible developers to design
and develop the games for you, but that would probably cost you more
money than you have to spend. The best thing you could do is to write
them yourself. There are a couple of options here.

One,you could learn a general all purpose programming language and how
to program games from scratch. I run a list specifically designed for
 this purpose on
 http://www.usagamesinteractive.com/lists.php
 and that is one option.

the other is to buy Philip's BGT game programming toolkit which will
save you time, and perhaps be a little easier. You can get that from
 http://www.blastbay.com
as well as join the BGT forum.

Roll playing audio is the game type. I've just signed up tp the list, and
added Philip to my contancts along with Thomas. Your next. I'm thinking the
game is based on the universe Yemora, and they pick from characters from
different books and stories. Where would I get the voices, I want to use
real people like like Phil Vlaysak. What about sound effects, and compilers?
Or should I just concentrate on the stories and have someone else design the
game? Would I be able to do both?
