[Audyssey] Question regarding DiceWorld.
Evening everyone on this list. It's Gary from Bolton here. I hope this Email comes through as I've not posted on here for a few years. I've got a question about DiceWorld on the iPhone. I had an account on it, and I kept forgetting my password, so had to keep resetting it! But even though I did this, now for some reason when I try and log in using my username, it says incorrect credentials. So today I've created a guest user, and changed it to GaryPrice. But when I entered my Email address, which is one for iCloud, it has made this my username as well. Is this a temporary account or is this now my perminant account? See I'm no longer on Facebook, so can't use this for logging in. Before I sign off, any tips on using this app would be appreciated as never used it before. I should add I use VoiceOver. Thanks very much, I hope this Email makes sense. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Question about A Blind Legend
If someone had the steam platform installed on a windows system I wonder if orca would run inside steam. That if it works might open up many games for blind gamers. I know valve hasn't done anything with accessibility and it would take the whole orca dependency stack being installed to enable orca if all of that can work. I don't do windows any more and to try something like that would need a tower with much disk space and a good amount of memory as a starting platform for any such experiment. Re: [Audyssey] question about manamon navigation
You have a bread crumb system. Buy some fliars from one of the shops, then you can write something and drop it on the ground at various points to serve as a landmark since it'll produce an audible cue. I haven't needed to do this yet but it is there. -Original Message- From: Alex Wallis Sent: Monday, July 25, 2016 7:12 AM To: gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] question about manamon navigation Hi list, I am not sure if the manamon creators will respond to this, but I have a question, I have read the documentation so I am fairly sure the answer is no, but is there a key for telling you if you have visited a location before or a coordinates system? if not, is this just because they haven't been put in or is it down to a limitation of the BGT? I really feel that the current navigation system isn't adequate particularly for large maps, e I have got to floor 2 of the minereff tunnel, it took me at least 4 or 5 hours to get off the first floor, and I only found the second by chance, and I certainly couldn't find it again easily, and now on the second I am again wondering in circles, keep ending up at the ladder to the first floor. I would also like to see some system for controlling how frequently you are attacked, its quite boring being attacked, having to hit enter to open the combat menu to be able to then select the flee option. I know a game is supposed to be challenging but the navigation simply isn't fit for purpose for very large maps and this is getting beyond challenging its getting to the annoying and not well thought out stage. I actually don't think listening for tones to stop to tell you about a new passage is a good system anyway because it can be hard to tell if a tone has stopped or if you have missed a passage and even if you find a passage if you have been in it before, I do know there are two types of tones and I have experimented with both, I would like to see a coordinates system, a visited location key to see if you have been there before, and maybe even a breadcrum system so you can mark locations. sorry for the rant but I would like to see some sort of improvements to assist with navigation, the game has been very well thought out and designed though. Hi, Back in 2010, producer Jason Scott created a two-DVD documentary about text adventure games, or Interactive Fiction if you prefer, called "Get Lamp". From what I've read, the discs consist of the main documentary (which you can also watch on Youtube), featurettes about Infocom and other subjects, longer interviews, and a DVD ROM section with various games. I've watched the main documentary on Youtube and thought it was good. I'm wondering if anyone has the DVDs as I've been considering purchasing them. Re: [Audyssey] Question about the Inquisitor series
Hi David. Nope, the three chapters for inquisitor are very different to inquisitor's heartbeat (which is really a spinoff of the main series0. They're audio adventure games where you play as the inquisitor Nicholas Eymerich and solve puzzles in an ievolving story, by say selecting an object either from your inventory or the environment, and then selecting what to do with it, for example selecting talk to and then the guard, or selecting use string with stick. I've only played the first thus far but it was lots of fun with a great atmosphere, I'd recommend if you like those sorts of games. if your looking for a maze style game more like inquisitor's heartbeat, try their new game, Flarestar. Re: [Audyssey] question regarding ticon blu
Hi Ishen. No, their games don't have demos unfortunately, there is no way to try them out first, though I'd highly recommend giving them a go. As to payment, yes, like just about all develpers you can pay in American dollars. For your information, several currencies are freely convirtable and can always be used, American Dollars, Australian and canadian Dollars, Japanese Yen, British Pounds, Euroes, and several others, and so long as a developer accepts payment in one of these you can convert to the others. this is why say a developer like Ticonblu based in italy can still accept payment in dollars rather than Euroes, but just look them up on the ap store on mac or Ios, or go to their site if you want the pc versions and you'll find all the payment details there. Re: [Audyssey] question about william lomas.
Ofcause I know its not legal to pirate games. I meant no idsrespect here. some of the games mentioned have gone through so many revisions, montisumers return is quite old, I never said that piracy was legal at all. I do understand where you are coming from with shades of doom, however even so. Even if there is a lagit hacker going out there point is even though there are laws against it a lot of alegal activity goes on on torrent sites. Again I am not saying anything against torrent sites but the fact a user was on one of them searching for something is itself something of a concern. I know a lot of people have setup files of this and that, I see requests for this on the forums. The fact ishen was on a torrent site where pirated stuff is out there is another question that should be asked. Since the laws in my country against piracy, torrents though themselves not alegal are not a safe place to go anymore. and I have no idea what to think at this point. Re: [Audyssey] question about william lomas.
Shaun, SighYes, Montezuma's Return is old, but as I said in a prior message age has absolutely nothing to do with it. Just because something is old does not make it legal to pirate, crack, and pass around the game. The only reason I myself am not worried about it is because the game is abandoned and I have no plans to profit from it, and can't due to copyright issues. Hi Shaun, Not sure what you mean by there have been so many games of that type. Hi Shaun, I personally find your attitude extremely distasteful. Since when does age make it okay to crack or pirate something? First,of all, yes Shades of Doom 1.x is old, but that does not make it old junk. Age has absolutely nothing to do with the quality or value of a product. As a matter of fact Shades of Doom still remains one of the better audio games out there, and for various reasons I still prefer the original over the new 2.0 version. So regardless of age that doesn't mean the original version is old junk. Moreover how old does something have to be before piracy becomes legal? One day, one week, one month, one year, ten years? Fact of the matter is none of the above. Piracy is illegal no matter how old the product is, and a copyright holder has a right to any and all income from said product for a minimum of 50 years in most countries and possibly longer if he or she renews the copyrights frequently. Therefore just because Shades of Doom is going on fourteen years or so doesn't mean it is old junk and a punk can now legally crack it if he or she wants to. As a list moderator I'm telling you to stop spouting of garbage like that below or I will whole heartedly boot you from the list. I'm really getting sick of your crap, and its time either you straighten up or hit the road. Consider yourself warned. Hi Ishan, First of all, the contact information for USA Games is or was in the User's Guide for the game so claiming you didn't know how to contact the developer sounds bogus to me. Hi Steven, Actually, I have said more, but you probably have not read or gotten those e-mails on the subject. Hi Ishan, To be honest how Michael knows William Lomas is actually irrelevant. Its obvious that William Lomas gave his key out to people somewhere along the way and Michael Batin and others have it and use it to crack the game. However, as I am no longer selling that game, can not profit from it, I'm not too overly concerned here about the cracks floating around. I appreciate the attempt to report this but there is a standard procedure for things like this, and you should generally contact the company or developer directly rather than calling attention to the cracking on a list like Audyssey. Not only can that Sturm up bad feelings between list members you will in all likely hood end up being labeled a tattle tale or worse by people involved in the piracy. Re: [Audyssey] question about william lomas.
Hi Ishan, While I don't know William Lomas personally I have seen him on this and other lists over the years. That said, before you accuse him of cracking Montezuma's Return are you sure he is cracking the game? I know a number of people legally purchased that game back in 2008, when it was on sale, and got legitimate product keys. I'd have to go back through my records, something I don't have time for at this second, to see if William Lomas purchased a valid product key, but even if he didn't Montezuma's Return is effectively abandonware anyway. So I'm not concerned about cracking at this point. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Question About Some Games from Ticon Blue
Hi Kelly. I have inquisitor's heartbeat for my Iphone as well as inquisitor chapter 1. Heartbeat is good for what it is, though a little frustrating. Instead of being a full audio adventure game, it's a maze puzzle. You are underground and need to find your way out, and can only go in the cardinal directations. The audio is extremely good tnd atmsopheric and there is actually a story along with the mazes. The mazes also are on average small, which means though you can get lost, you don't get lost for too long, or at least that is my experience. On the down side, the game doesn't quite control in the way that it's description on the ap store says it should, sinse rather than touching the respective parts of the screen you actually have to one finger swipe. I also couldn't find any command to interact with the environment either though the manual said there was one (although all interactions seemed to happen automatically). In addition, the game doesnt' really seem that efficient at menus, or at managing save files generally. I also don't find it's quite as addictive sinse essentially it's a basic maze game, albeit one with unusually good audio ambience and story. I've heard very good things about she noire, and of course there is no inquisitor chapter 2 out. I do plan to get all the titles fromticon blu eventually sinse I do admire how they're put together and also I appreciate how well they've done in terms of acting (especially given that they're producing the games in multiple languages), but I'd probably advise you to look at some of their other work before trying heartbeat. Re: [Audyssey] Question About Some Games from Ticon Blue
Do these titles have anything to do with each other, as in a serial? Should one be bought and played before another in any sequence? I'm considering buying them for my iPhone, and don't want to work on the second before the first. That would be like reading The Two Towers and then The Fellowship of the Ring. Thanks. Also, the P, not the i, is capitalized in iPhone. This is proper and will cause the correct pronunciation of the device. --- Be positive! Re: [Audyssey] Question About Some Games from Ticon Blue
Hi Charlse. Yes, the inquisitor games should be played in sequence, but she noire and audio speed (and presumably their upcoming space game), have nothing to do with inquisitor, though I believe a second She Noire game is planned later. So, if your planin ong pick up the inquisitor series, you should start with the first game, ie the game just called the Inquisitor then move on to Inquisitor chapter 2 the village, (sinse playing that first really would! be like reading two towers before fellowship). inquisitor's heartbeat is optional. It's sort of a spinoff in the same universe but isn't connected with the over all plot of the inquisitor games, or at eleast I don't believe so from what I've played thus far. hth. Re: [Audyssey] Question to Cara quin about audio quake
Well, to be honest, I have not played audioquake for some time after there was a pause in development several years back. I had just about doodled round enough mostly with cheats and jetpacks in the jedy mods. anyway, I killed my entire database. I don't have it anymore. I may have the old cd for the registered quake I coppied off a friend and maybe the game pac files, or at least I did, I lost a lot of stuff in a cleanout, I don't even know if my link to download the game directly from id that I got about 12 years ago still works. I have not touched the game for at least 10 years. At 10:50 a.m. 26/07/2014, you wrote: Went to install it on another computer. it started out fine but hit a big problem. When it comes time for the shareware version to be installed you get a log and pass screen for it to download. So without that info trying to install the game know is impossible. That is the only thing I don't like about forgotten games or games used for school grades. Had some one throw out a flight sim a while back. Everyone tried it and liked the demo and trailer. However, once the person got there grade the game died and that is how it is for all games created that way. I did see that person recently throw out a possible new game here and bet it meets the flight sim. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. kelly. when you hear the arrow make sure its centred. wait a second before parrying. keep doing that 4 times. the enemies close in. do it again, but you have less time. If you can get past this, its a dagger fight and all you do is turn to the enemies, parry then attack and you should get past them easily enough. Hi Kelly. No you do actually need to attack flail boy, simply defending won't do, but your window of opportunity to get him isn't large. Generally with flail boy he'll charge, in (when he says here comes the pain or similar), attack twice and then after blocking his second attack if you slash immediately you'll get him, though you need to be very quick to attack after your parry. hth. Re: [Audyssey] Question to Cara quin about audio quake
Yep, I know the search archive page isn't working as it should. i suspect this is a symtom of the same security fixes that stopped the db from working. There's not a lot I can do about it sinse the problem is with the underlying php code of the site which I don't have access to and don't have the skills to fix even if I did. It's been reported to Richahrd and Sander so hopefully it'll get sorted in the future. kelly you have a short time to strike deflect twice then strike. there is a rythm in this. most enemies in the game have a number of deflects and strikes everyone up to level5 should be easy then you need to time it on level 4 and 5, after that 6-8 should be straight foreward. the last 2 are a bit tricky. Re: [Audyssey] Question to Cara quin about audio quake
ah so the site are in php and mysql? dark skrev 2014-07-25 kl 12:16: Yep, I know the search archive page isn't working as it should. i suspect this is a symtom of the same security fixes that stopped the db from working. There's not a lot I can do about it sinse the problem is with the underlying php code of the site which I don't have access to and don't have the skills to fix even if I did. It's been reported to Richahrd and Sander so hopefully it'll get sorted in the future. Well I've been working on the db for years, ever sinse around 2008. It got missed a little at the start of this year sinse I was busy, and then when I got back I found that some security installed after the site hack had interfered with the site. If you go and check the audigoaems.net news, you will see topics labbeled site updates and a date, those are the changelogs for the database (I post an update when there are enough changes). I did one earlier this months, which has been the first this year due to said irritations. Beware the grue! The home page for Audio Quake is http://www.agrip.org.uk and the download directory for Windows, Mac, and Linux versions of the game is at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/quqwcm244sqoh5a/AABlIdnaEtgG2FWlnBHnd1GIa/releases and you'll have to decide which release you want to link to from there. As far as Windows compatibility goes there is no compatibility issues with Windows 7 and Windows 8 that I know of. Audio Quake is open source so should I or anyone have a problem all they need to do is grab the source, run it through Visual C++, and build a new 64-bit compatible version. As for Jedi Quake unless Cara has some other place to get Jedi Quake I was always able to get it from http://tbrn.andrelouis.com/modgirl/ which is the same link given on the Audio Quake site. Cheers! I am updating the audiogames.net db and I came to the entries for both audioquake and agrip (both of which were written a long time ago before I took over maintaining the db). My first question is, is Agrip totally invalidated by Audio quake? the audio quake entry said as much. If Agrip is now contained within audio quake I will remove it's entry from the db, sinse while (as I said to Ishen), I don't want to remove past entries there is no point keeping entries for past versions of the same game, which is why I deleted the Gma solitare entry and replaced it with one for Gma cards. The second question is what are the homepage and download links for audio quake, and indeed for your Jediquake mod if that is still available. I am well aware these are probably not being maintained anymore and won't work on versions of windows past xp, (I can put as much in the platform information), but if the game is still available obviously it's better people know even if they need to run with a virtual machine or whatever. If the game is now completely removed from the net I will simply list both pages license types as unknown as I have for things like the Bsc titles, but obviously that would be a less good option. Hope this makes sense. All the best, Dark. --- Gamers mailing list
Re: [Audyssey] Question About The Inquisitor for PC
Hi. it's a download with the usual unlock code type affair. I have the Iphone version myself sinse I fancied the game being portable, but I'd still recommend it if you like adventure games with good cvoice acting and atmosphere and a very unique main character, also there's a rather nice help system in the game if you get stuck. I actually don't think many indi games are sold on cd anymore, sinse with even modern fast net connections there isn't need to. Beware the grue! Re: [Audyssey] Question to Cara quin about audio quake
Hi Dark! Sorry for the delay. It's been a busy week. :) Thomas has pretty much covered everything. Thank you Thomas! I'll just add that Sebby, one of the original devs of Audio Quake who is also a part of the AGRIP project is here on this list so perhaps he will chime in. Matthew, Sebby and others (myself included) are currently working on Audio quake for multiple platforms (Mac included) in a number of ways so this project is still in active development. As for Jedi Quake, though I've personally not been developing it for a while now, I believe someone else has done at least a little bit more with it since I last worked with it. I unfortunately have no actual info on that though. So at this point it's basically rumor. :) Thomas has shared the link to the latest original version created by me. So there you go. :) There will definitely be more info on AQ and JQ when more info is available. So please stay tuned! Thanks so much for your interest in keeping the word on Audio Quake and Jedi Quake out there so people still know they exist! It means a lot! :) Have a great weekend!!! Re: [Audyssey] Question About The Inquisitor for PC
Hi Dark, Thanks for letting me know about the unlock code thing. That was going to be my next question. Can it be played on one system only then? The reason I ask is because I've got two computers: one running Windows 7, the other XP. I also have the game for the iPod as well, but thought it would be good to get the game for my desktop systems. Thanks. Re: [Audyssey] Question to Cara quin about audio quake
Hi Cara. I do confess I did wonder whether audioquake had stopped development, or had fallen off the map, and thinking if so it was a shame. I enjoyed what I played of it, particularly sinse it was a nice way to combine using my remaining vision with sound clues (which I always appreciate sinse it's much closer to what I do in real life)., sort I was disappointed slightly that the tutorial ended slightly abruptly with some errors about unfound stuff sinse I was enjoying going through the different sections and facing the various traps, I also would've liked to see some levels with monsters and things to get around rather than just the arenas, though generally I did really like what I saw especially created from a game which I did see some of my sighted friends playing a while ago, so I'm glad to here it's not dropped off the mpa and work is still happening. Funnily enough Sebby posts a lot on the audiogames.net forum so it's a little ironic that I didn't think to ask him. Re: [Audyssey] Question About The Inquisitor for PC
Hi Kelly. Well I've just got the game on my Iphone, but the developer has stated the game will run on five machines. I'm not sure if this means you can use your unlock code on five different computers or whether you can get five different unlock codes, one for each machine, but you should be able to run it on two machines either way. Re: [Audyssey] Question to Cara quin about audio quake
Went to install it on another computer. it started out fine but hit a big problem. [Audyssey] Question About Level 2 in The Blind Swordsman
Hi, I just started playing The Blind Swordsman, and so far I like it. However, I'm trying to figure out the goal of level 2. All I've been able to do is deflect the opponent's flail several times before I'm eventually killed. Is that the whole point of the level, to keep deflecting, or is there a point where I can kill the guy and move on? Thanks.
