Re: [Audyssey] fs2004?

2009-08-12 Thread Nick Helms
Simulator flight time is equivalent to real-world flight time.
Everything is realtime in the simulator.
So yes, it would take the same amount of time to flhy from Pa to Ca as
it would in real life.
That goes for all the flying you do in the simulator, unless you use
time acceleration. But that I think is a rather useless feature except
if you can see and you want to get to a peace of seenery rather
quickly. Besides, it throws IYP off.
But yes, simulator flight time is the same as it’s real-world counterpart.

2009-08-12 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Josh,
Everything is done in real time. So if a flight takes six hours in real
life it will take the same time on the simulator. If you aren't into
doing long flights then you should plan for a short flight rather than a
long one.

Smile.

You can save your flight within FS 2004, but it is impossible to do
this in IYP. So no, it is impossible, unfortunetly. You can, however,
pause the flight. Use P to do this. Press P one once more to unpause
the flight.

Ah, I stand corrected. My brother-in-law is a licensed pilot. When he got
his license they didn't use Flight Simulator, but I guess some trainers do
except it now. Although, this was a few years back, and as technology

It is optional wether or not you unload your screenreader or not,
since you don't use it when running FS 2004 and IYP.
It is usefull when you need to, for example, ehck thetime of departure

Re: [Audyssey] fs2004 and jobs in the real world?

2009-08-09 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Josh,
No, the Microsoft Flight Simulators are purely for entertainment
purposes, and aren't there to actually train professional pilots. People
applying for a pilots license still have to work with a trainer and put
in actual flight time in a plane plus take written tests to show they
know how to do accurate instrument readings etc.
Besides that when you employ IYP with FS 2004 you aren't actually
flying the plane yourself anyway. All IYP does is allow you to give
instructions to your copilot to help you run through the check lists,
take off, land, change heading, altitude, etc. So even though you are
the captain of the airplane you don't do any actual flying yourself. You
just tell your copilot what to do and she does it for you. That's a bit
like cheating since you are most likely using IYP to avoid manually
flying the plane yourself.
So even assuming an employer would consider FS 2004 as a job skill it
wouldn't count in your case because you use IYP. Since IYP does the
actual flying for you they could truethfully say you never actual flew a
simulation solo and thus have no flight experience in a simulator on
your own. So all around your answer is no.

Smile.

Re: [Audyssey] fs2004 and jobs in the real world?

2009-08-09 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Nick,
Ah, I stand corrected. My brother-in-law is a licensed pilot. When he
got his license they didn't use Flight Simulator, but I guess some
trainers do except it now. Although, this was a few years back, and as
technology changes so does what is and isn't excepted in flight school.
Grin.

Nick Helms wrote:

Well-said Thomas.
However, I know for a fact that flight simulator is used as a training
tule for pilots.
And personaly my extencive experience using FS 2004 has taught me a
lot and allowed me to answer questions and learn more about aviation
and flying aircraft, even though I'm not phisicly handling the
controls.

[Audyssey] fs2004 using the ATIS

2009-08-03 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.

I am wondering if someone could please tell me how I go about getting the
ATIS working in fs2004?
I am programming in the weather to fs2004, I tell it to use the real world
weather updated every 15 minutes, and this is downloaded into the simulator.
however, I then get to the point where I want to use my radios, I start
hitting 1 waiting for something to happen after pressing the ` key and
eventually I begin the process of starting the takeoff making my initial
contact to file my flight plan. But for some reason I get no ATIS, I am sure
I must be missing a trick, because I have listened to nicks podcast about
the basics lots of times, and I guess I must be missing something as it just
sounds to me like he is pressing the ` key, then jabbing 1 a few times to
get the weather. But to be honest I found that hole beginning section of the
podcast confusing, I would actually really like to see one that simply
covers communications in great detail right from before takeoff to
throughout a flight to landing.
As his podcast kind of starts in the middle as far as a flight goes, and he
doesn't give much commentry especially while getting clearance and finding
out about the weather.

I am also wondering what do I do with a lot of the information the ground
gives me when I contact them? which is very hit and miss for me as I can't
get used to the radio lol.
I am talking about when it lists several runways for example like runway 1
runway 2 runway 5 and goes on about taxying? I mean I know what taxying is,
but why the mentioning of all the different runways?

I think if a podcast was done that actually picks apart the communication
piece by piece line by line that would be extremely helpful as I know about
things like setting the squork but other things are still not clear to me
lol.

He thinks that for FS2004 work properly with Jaws, he has to delete a dll

Many thanks,

the landing sewquence would be better with some stuff added because
now if you land it's a brief rumble and then you're in the main menu.
if you would land and then break hard on t he runway, it would do to
make it more cool.

2008-10-26 Thread MICHAEL MASLO
Is it accessible and does it come up with accurate flight routes that if you
wanted to fly on line they would agree? Also if you are using fs 2004 I know
for a fact that Jaws does not work with it. So how you managing unless not a
total.
