Hi Josh, Thank you for saying that you do not think that my football game is stupid. You know when I work on my football game, I really only plan to add the log file thing. So it will have each play in the log file. I was wondering though, for my baseball game log file, it now, in the BaseballScore.txt file has the inning rap up such as; in the Indians half of the first inning, the Indians scored, 2 runs on, 5 hits, there was 1 double there was 1 strike out there was A double play and two runners were left on base. in the Yankees half of the first inning, the Yankees scored, No runs on, 2 hits, and two runners were left on base. in the Indians half of the second inning, the Indians scored, 1 run on, 2 hits, there was 1 triple there was 1 strike out there was A double play and there were no runners left on base. in the Yankees half of the second inning, the Yankees scored, No runs on, 1 hit, there was 1 triple 1 runner was caught stealing and there were no runners left on base. So, I was wondering if it needs more than that. I don't think that I will do every pitch, but could possibly do every play whether it be an out or a hit. Re: [Audyssey] old dos games here they are!
Hi Jim, Smile. For the record I don't think your football game is stupid either. I just feel it could use a few checks to assess the risks of a certain play such as trying to throw a pass so close to the end zone that might end up in an interception or a safety if the quarterback gets sacked. Still, I suppose its not beyond belief that a quarterback makes a bad call now and then that ends up in favor of the opposing team. Either way, I have had many many fun hours with your football game. Now, as for the baseball log file I personally think it is fine as is. I don't really see you needing to add anything to it. Hi Jim, Sorry about that. I didn't mean that personally. That is to say I didn't mean it like the game itself was stupid. I simply meant that sometimes the game makes bad calls that probably weren't very intelligent given the computer's field position and the amount of plays left to it. A human player such as myself might have assessed the situation and decided to punt the ball rather than run the risk of a safety or interception that close to his/her end zone. Yet, some quarterbacks might be risk takers and decide to make that call anyway to try a long pass in the last ditch effort to keep the ball in play in the hopes of picking up a first down, and of course the play turned out to backfire on him. well the pc speaker in some cases is rather small and really doesn't do much. however now its part of your soundcard. So if you ever played sound files through your pc speaker it would be the same as your soundcard ofcause it would be mono. Supposedly with desktops you can rip out the pcspeaker and put a small speaker in the box wire it in and let it go a pc anyway. Though these days soundcards are really cheap 30 bucks for a real basic one. and 200-300 for the best though if you pay between 60 and 80 you will still get more than you will ever know what to do with. Hi Shaun, Yes, there are USB synths, but the problem is they don't necessarily work with Dos screen readers. The Tripletalk USB is a good external synth, but I believe you have to hook it up to a serial port if you want Jaws for Dos, ASAP, whatever to use it as a type of Doubletalk. hey yours isn't stupid! it's lots of fun! I love it! and I also love any night football in the windows xp vm! but I like them for different reasons. I like jim's because of the sounds and stuff and descriptions, and I like any night football when I want to play both teams, make the computer go out of the way a little and have a bit more strategy. this is where I think any night football could be re-written into an online server based american football game. Jim your nfl game is excellent and I would be very disappointed if you got rid of it! I can play a whole season in your game, but in any night football you just play each game separate there are no week one week 2 and superbowl and so on. jim's is unique just like any night football is unique. they're both fun and fun for their own individual reasons. now we need any night football online game. Hi Josh, All of the DOS games you described were developed by me and Carl when we were known as Personal Computer Systems. I don't mind you distributing the games as they never had registratio keys to keep people from copying themn and giving them out to friends. The instructions file did state that this copying would prevent us from developing new games with no registration system. However I amnot giving nay help in trying to get the games to work on today's computers. They were writen and designed specifilly for computers running Windows 98 with a hardware speech synthesizer such as DEC talk or Double Talk. Several of the games used the PC speaker as a major part of the sound creating part and would be difficult to play without that feature. Hi Ron, I've been looking at rewriting some of my favorite Dos games in Python so they would be cross-platform, and be available for a modern PC running say Windows 7, but I wouldn't do it without Phil's personal go ahead as they still belong to PCS games as far as I am concerned. Hi Ron, No. Something you need to understand is that newer 64-bit processors and 64-bit operating systems such as Windows 7 are not able to execute 8-bit and 16-bit programs without some virtual emulation layer like Dosbox, Dosemu, etc. So unfortunately these games are out of the question. Hi Josh, As far as I know there is no laptop layout for Speakup. The only way to get one or create one is by editing the hex codes for your keyboard map file, and recompiling the kernel which is probably more work than you want to do in order to have a keyboard map file that uses the capslock key or something like that as a modifier key for Speakup. Besides that why not just use Orca with Dosemu in a terminal window so you can use Orca's laptop keyboard screen review commands? On 6/18/13, Josh Kennedy joshknnd1...@gmail.com wrote: hi everyone! Hi, I was wary of responding to this topic until we heard from the developers of the original games. Since we have, I'll ask my question. The shooting range isn't part of the package of games you provided, at least not that I've seen. Do you have it? that was my favorite PCS title. I never bought the full version, since I was a kid when I played it, but, unrealistic sounds or not, it provided me much entertainment. I especially loved blowing up the propane tanks. hi Desiree, My DOS Shoot game uses the PC speaker for targeting, so even a virtual xp computer might not have a working pc speaker. I am planning to create a similar game for windows using the GMA game engine. I can't say when it will be finished. Hi Josh, Any Night Football is very close to Jim Kitchen's football game. The two major differences is that it had real player's stats from the 1988 season and that it had more choices for offence and defense. I didn't want to develop a windows version since I didn't think anyone would purchase a game that they could have for free. yeah its too bad espeak can't be made to work in dosbox. make a dos screen reader like asap use maybe an accent on com3 then have something outside dosbox intercept and listen on that port and redirect it to espeak and convert the accent codes to something espeak understands. Re: [Audyssey] old dos games here they are!
Hi, I dragged out an old machine that's running Windows XP. It does have a PC speaker. I think it was purchased in 2002. I remember playing the demos of your games previously on it, and the PC speaker worked. The only thing I have to do to get this machine up and running again is to replace the fan. I do look forward to the game you mentioned. It sounds intriguing. Considering that the shooting range and Cops were both excellent, I imagine that merging them will create something very worth my time and money. On 6/19/2013 6:28 AM, Phil Vlasak wrote: Hi Josh, All of the DOS games you described were developed by me and Carl when we were known as Personal Computer Systems. I think today's computers have done away with the PC speaker that was supposed to just mak a beep when your computer was booting. My plan was to convert some of thos games to Windows but the long Sarah game development has delayed this. My next Windows game will be a combination of Cops and Shoot. I do not plan on doing a Windows version of Baseball or Football right now as those games already have accessible windows versions from other companies. Well then. We'll just have to wait until Phil has the time to get his cops and robers game up and running. Since he was saying that he was planning on taking the old cops games and the old classic favorite shoting gallory gams and murging them together for a brand new adventure. This is a huge huge shame. But that's what happens when we up grade to try and stay up with the times. Now to bad we can't convirt these old classics to the windows platforms. hmmm. Well pz98 is now gtc, well sort of. trek99 is trek2k lonewolf is lonewolf. shoot97 is nothing but to be honest its been demonstrated that a shooting range can be fit in bgt, we would have to just make the targets, all the guns used we have the sfx from the actual game could find less crappy ones, I don't think the range is beyond us. The cops program I have no idea how to do but again its not really beyond us really. The math and mobius games not sure how they were structured but its text and some minimalistic sfx and it would be done. Snipe hunt tried to become windows but was ok but still semi crappy but all these can go to bgt without any issue I have no idea how to get it going or have the time right now but I have seen at least 1 example of something simular in bgt.
