[Audyssey] the shields in Q9
Maybe I'm confused a bit on the use of the shields. As I understand it, the damage the monsters try to inflict on you is bounced back upon them when you activate a shield, and no damage is done to you while it remains active. If this is the case, you would be invincible while it is active, other than stepping off of a drop-off. Should other weaponry be used at the same time to more quickly destroy the attacking monsters?, or should you merely face them and let them do themselves in? Come to think of it, are these shields all around you?, or just in front. Hi charles, Yup, you got it right. Other than pits, you're invinsible when a shield is active, so I suppose it's all around you because it works just as well on attacks from behind. You're free to use other weapons in conjunction with it, that way any attack from the enemy rebounds upon there health, adding Q9 diligently hacking away at them with your weapon of choice takes out nasties at a rapid rate. The shields are forcefields, and therefore offer full scale protection and yes, using your club to bash skulls is often a good way of taking out lots of enemies while using a shield. Beware the grue! If you listen to the shield sound, you can approximate when the shield will be running out fairly accurately, and get ready to activate another. hmmm cheating does get you through the game but it does not reward you with the boss dieing which is one thing I want to see once. Granted my char anoyed the narator to get him quite mad at me but still. Bullys and such grin I have actually managed it through the worlds and as long as I kept my life I have a good supply of rocks. one thing, I wander if one can buy rocks and shields with the score points like in treasure hunt. and tarzan junior, where you can buy amo. I know this means a lower score but I can't beat the game with a club alone. The wolves are a real pain when they gang up on you. you have a rhino charging and you are on the edge of a pit. leopards I can take and bats and gorillas but the wolves, hmmm. Matheus is right. The key to winning in Q9 is knowing the precise range of weapons, so that you can start swinging or shooting when the enemy is far enough away from you for you to attack it, but it not be able to get you. I certainly approve of a game which requires this level of practice, i found getting through on easy to be relatively streight forward, it only took me a few serious tries, but I don't sexpect the other difficulties will be anything like that. Yup what Dark said, as well as figuring out how to use jumping to your advantage. Evading attacks from some creatures with jumps and using them to get yourself either right into the thick of a big group or in some cases back out again will go a long way toward your energy lasting longer. As well as timing the use of them right, make sure you're as offensive as possible when you've got a shield activated so you're using them to their full potential. I'd prefer leaving it the way it is. It eliminates the chance of accidentally activating multiple shields by mistake. What I do is activate the shield with spacebar, and then I switch back to the club or slingshot. The shield will do damage for a certain amount of time, while you are facing the enemies, so I get the best of both worlds by using the shield for its timed usage, and wack the other enemies with the club or slingshot while the shield is still active. You only need to press spacebar once per shield. You can tell a shield is on it's way out because the vibration of it increases in speed. I don't mean the pitch goes up, I mean that kinda wah noise it makes slowly when you first activate it increases. I disagree about being able to activate a new shield before your old one runs out, that would just make them ridiculous! A three second warning though, so that you can peg it away from most of the enemies before your shield stops might be a good idea however. Beware the Grue!
