[Audyssey] Audio Quake ActivePerl stuff?

2011-04-03 Thread Dakotah Rickard
Ok, so Audio Quake needs Activeperl, but where can I get it without
having to wade through all sorts of weird download possibilities?
Downloading it via the installer isn't workable. I've downloaded
everything else, but without ActivePerl, there's no point.

Re: [Audyssey] Audio quake down?

2010-09-18 Thread Cara Quinn
  Hi Lindsay;

In a sense, yes. The usual AQ servers for the support files for the game are
now defunct, so the game can't find its files.

There is a stand-alone package you can download however, so that the game will
run properly.

While I don't unfortunately have the linkie on-hand at the moment, )perhaps
someone else does?) and will be extremely busy this weekend, it may take me a
few days to get back with you on this.

-But I will write the list back so that you and others have access.

I'd also like to apologize for the lack of good support on the part of all of
the AQ devs at the moment.

The two original devs have basically moved on for various reasons, (at least
for the time being) so this is a bit of a side project for myself and perhaps a
couple of others from time to time. I just wanted to mention this as I
personally very much support AQ and really want to see it continue on, but
issues with the code and such (including me just being horrifically busy)
really can make it difficult to continue development of the game on as regular
of a basis as I'd like. Also, sad but true, since there's no money being
offered to help me along with this, it's just not practical to put the time in
that really needs to be spent to have more immediate development happening. :)
If people pay me for my time then I'll quite simply spend the time in short
order. If not, then people will need to wait. It's just a matter of
prioritizing. :) -Make it worth my while and it will happen; -Don't' and it
won't…

So my apologies and I'll keep ya'll posted! :)

Smiles,

Cara :)

Hi Cara,
Thanks for clarifying that for us. I couldn't remember all the reasons
why to purchase the full version from ID Software, but I knew there
was some content left out of the shareware demo and open source
engine.

On 7/9/10, Cara Quinn wrote:

  Actually to clarify;

The reason one might want to purchase the game rather than just use the

episodes. I believe you can actually find the music and all of the game
maps

online though, in various places, though I haven't checked for them.

Now, having said that, all of the online features (such as team play and
deathmatch) are available with the shareware demo, so if you want to play
with real people, then you need not search for or purchase anything.

HOpe that makes sense.

Now, as for accessibility; -much more than a demo is accessible. The
complete online experience is accessible to enjoy and all of the standard
game maps have the Audio quake access features, (as well as do hundreds
of

user created maps as well)

So the game is quite playable, if I'm understanding people correctly.

Anyway, hope this helps and have a great day!…

Is the ID it's asking you for a username/password combo for logging on to
online stats servers?

Although I have never bothered registering online, I just gave it some
values by typing them in and hitting enter and it works, and then brings up
it's own menu.

Remember that if you don't turn off something like jaws first, it won't pass
any input through to audioQuake as such either FWIW, so nothing will happen.

alternitively you can also kill the demo folder and files and change
autoexec.cfg or was it start.ini and put a ; in front of the line that starts
the demos.
to connect to any server.
type the following.
connect svr.domain:port
ie connect sampleserver.com:27000
if you use just the domain name then a default port of 27600 will be used.

[Audyssey] Audio Quake Problem

2008-08-26 Thread Richard sherman
Hi,

I am asking the below question for a fellow list member of the blindtech
discussion group.

When answering, would that person cc me at the email address in the
signature so that I am sure to get a copy.

thanks.

*

I'm trying to play the game called audio quake. For the most part it works,
but I'm having a problem. I can save games but can't load the game I've
saved. When I try to load it I get the following.

Error
SZ_GetSpace: overflow without allowoverflow set (0)
OK

I've tried downloading the latest engine for the game which was supposed to
fix this problem but that hasn't helped. I'm running Windows XP SP3 on a
computer with 1 gig of ram. If anyone could help me fix this problem, it
would be appreciated. I like the game but will not continue playing it if I
can't get this resolved. And I did post this question to the discussion list
for the game but no one has replied. And it does not appear the list gets
much if any traffic.

I have downloade audioquake from their site and installed all the stuff like
pearl and shareware of quake, like it said to do, in the tutorial.
now when I try and start audioquake it says that perl exe is missing and if
i want to manually locate it.
I have all the stuff downloaded and even reinstalled everything, but I keep
getting this message.
I would appreciate any hints on what to do.

[Audyssey] audio quake Questions

2008-03-26 Thread Darren H
Hi gamers

I have a question regarding Audio Quake, which I'm starting to get to grips
with ok now.

Is there any way of...

1. Enabling the mouse for more fluid movement.

2. enabling the look up and look down functionality as obtaining some of the
items in single player require you to shoot or find things above your head.
Also, some of the monsters are on higher ledges and can pick you off easily if
you're not able to look up and fire back at them.

also, it would be handy in deathmatch mode to be on a high shooting position
and look down to pick off your mates.

3. some of the secrets in the levels require you to shoot a red disc, or some
other simlar instruction...any way around this without wasting ammo?

I think that'll do for now.

Oh, one more thing.

Enabling the swim up and swim down function.

Cheers
Darren

[Audyssey] Audio quake

2008-03-03 Thread Darren H
Hi folks

I've been playing the shareware version of quake with the Audio quake engine.

Are there any sites around that describe the maps and type of monsters.

The ID Software site is pretty useless.

I'm currently bidding on a full copy of Quake on Ebay and hopefully I'll win
that.

Any other tips or tricks would really be apreciated.

Cheers

You need to exit the console, use the graav key (or whatever you used to
enter the console), to exit it and then move around on the tutorial map.

Hth.

Actually Quake 1, believe it or not, still has a large following,
and still is developed by end users on the web. It also just came out
on cell phones about a year ago.

HTH and will write more later…

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake

2008-02-19 Thread Cara Quinn
Well the last I heard was that certain cell phones could run any
and all versions of Quake 1 as well as any game mods, however, as the
AQ launcher is written in Perl, I'm not sure that that particular mod
would be supported. NOw, a simple rewrite of the launcher in Java
would really not be that big a deal as far as the current code is
concerned, as it's really not that complex, however the Java
implementations on particular phones might be another matter.

Anyway, it's just a bit of speculation right now, but I certainly
don't think it's impossible.

Cara :)

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake

2008-02-18 Thread Dark
appologies Jeremy, the tutorial command for the console is just tut, and not
the hole word tutorial. Here's a step by step guide which I've checked on my
copy of the game, if this does not work I'm afraid i'm out of ideas.

1: unload Jaws and launch audio quake.

2: press s, then enter, you will now here sapi say "welcome to quake" and
begin playing of the quake demo with sapi saying messages such as "the
necropolis" "you got the shells" etc.

3: press the graav key (the one next to the number one on your keyboard, you
should now here Sapi say "entering console"

4: if you now type t u t and press enter you should begin the tutorial.

Hth.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

ok,
when i launch audio quake, it gives me a list, o,k,r,u,s,x, i press s to

it does not stop the demo, and when i try to type connect blah to try to get

repets the orrigional letters as posted above, the music/sounds does not
stop, i believe that when i turn jaws on to do a title, it says that i am in
a Z quake window, does this make any since?
when i alt tab after turning jaws back off, the only thing the game is
reading to me is the armour/weapons/what ever else the demo is picking up
during game play or during demo play.
any tips/advice wild be appreciated... i have read the user manual through
twice now.. so that people would think that i am not just asking questions

i am one of those that i need to read manual to see how tough it will be to

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake

2008-02-18 Thread Dark
Hello Jeremy.

Audio quake is a framework and programm which allows a vi person to play the
very famous mainstream fps game quake, which has multiplayer
capability, many level packs and mods, and much other good stuff.

audio quake is free, but the game quake is not, but Audio quake can download
a limited shareware version of the quake game for you just to see if you
like it or not while it is installing.
go to http://www.agrip.org.uk/

while it's not as complicated as it sounds, be careful to read the
documentation and other resources on the site before you begin so you know
what's going on (particularly in terms of console commands to the game).

Hth

Beware the grue!

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake questions

2008-02-12 Thread Dark
hello Cara.

I thought you might be able to help me with this one, --- thanks! Appologies
for the late reply, I've been horribly, unbelieveably busy and haven't been
able to try audio quake for a couple of days.

the map command now works, i feel like an absolute fool sinse I was
missing the space off, lol!

A friend of mine might even have the original game Cd knocking around
somewhere, which would be nice.

Reguarding the 9th tutorial map, something very weerd indeed seems to happen
there. when I try to load it I get:

couldn't load sound/enforcer/enfire/wav
couldn't load sound/enforcer/enfstop/wav
the required model file "laser/progs/mdl" could not be found or downloaded,
you may need to download or perchice a id1 client pack in order to play on
this server.

this is why i thought the full version of quake was necessary to play on
that tutorial map.

any help would again be appreciated.

all the best,

Dark.

[Audyssey] audio quake questions

2008-02-08 Thread Dark
Hi.

well I've been trying out Audio quake this afternoon, - finally!

thus far, I've played through the first 8 tutorial levels (the game seemed to
encounter problems at level 9 which seemed to need the full version of quake),
and I've tried a deathmatch with bots, which was fun, if rather hechtic,
and I stil haven't fully got used to the enemy targiting in the game so got
myself fragged more times than i got the bots (I was able to axe murder one of
them though, which was fun).

I've also had a go at the first shareware episode, but am running into several
problemsdue to the complexity of the soundscape, but i'm guessing I just need
to practice here and get used to how the audio works.
I do have some questions, especially as reguards buying the full game.

firstly, have other people designed levels for the game, maps with
monsters etc for the players to go through.

Secondly, what extras do you actually get with the full version of quake? how
necessary is it?

then, i'm having problems inputting any commands to choose maps. I can type tut
for the tutorial, but not get to the individual tutorial maps, nor can I get to
the individual game maps. I do believe I've managed to start deathmatches on
different maps, but as I wasn't paying much attention to the layout, I can't be
sure. Is there a way of knowing what game maps there are installed?

Any advice and pointers on audio quake would be very handy.

thanks in advance,

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake questions

2008-02-08 Thread Cara Quinn
Hey Dark, glad you enjoyed the game, or at least what you've played
of it!…

Firstly, as far as changing maps goes, try typing the following
when you start the game.

map e1m1

and then press enter. This should get you to the first single player
map.

map e1m2

-will get you to the second map in the single player series, and so
on…

to change to other maps you have in your maps folder in your ID1
folder, simply type map in the console, followed by a space, as in the
above, and then follow it with the map name without its extension.

I believe you can go up to e1m4 or e1m6 with the shareware.

So this takes me to your next question; the sharware gives you more
maps (up to e4 - episode 4 and approx 6 to 8 maps in each).

You can find all of these maps online and I believe you may even be
able to find them at the ID1 site, (the makers of the original game)
along with the full source code and such as well as much, much more…

Now, in regard to your other question about user created maps, my
answer is a resounding YES There is a vast, and I do mean VAST
user community to this day on the web and oceans of maps, models,
sounds and skins for the game… Google is your friend and there are
also many centralized sites that can lead you to much more…

Now, as for the tutorials having trouble at 9 or so, this seems odd
to me; were you by chance, running the JQ mod when this happened?… If
you were, then try running the tuts without it. There is currently a
sound precaching issue while running the JQ mod, with the game engine
itself, where the game's resources for each map are preset and cannot
be changed by the user, or a mod, aside from editing / recompiling the
engine code itself.

I believe I've tracked the error down quite nicely, however, I
can't seem to currently find a way to recompile the engine on Windows
so alas, cannot test with it. My apologies and rest assured that
this is extremely high on my priority list for AQ.

Anyway, I sure hope this helps and have a terrific weekend!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

[Audyssey] Audio Quake - tbrn.net - JQ 4.2

2008-02-08 Thread Cara Quinn
Hey all, I just wanted to let you know that tbrn.net is currently
up and running, and I can log in and play the game. So whether or not
you have the latest JQ, I'd encourage peeps to give this a try. If
you have no luck, try downloading the latest JQ release which I posted
about last evening (JQ 4.2) and give that a go…

Please do let me know about any issues as I'm taking a little time

Best of luck and enjoy the game!…

Re: [Audyssey] Audio Quake: eyes model detected?

2008-01-20 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Cara!
Well, acording to the AQ server stats, TBRN.net is up again. I tried
connecting directly to the IP address and it just said connect (IP) and
nothing else. Only thing I could do is enter quit... Well, what could be
so terribly wrong here? There's no firewall, nothing that could keep AQ
from connecting... Hmmm...

Re: [Audyssey] Audio Quake: eyes model detected?

2008-01-20 Thread Cara Quinn
Hey Robin, see my latest msg about AQ. As for email, I
haven't sent it yet, am still going through emails! lol! Sorry, kind
of busy...

Will send it off in a minute though. As far as the addie you're
using, thank you, but I was wondering which one of mine you're using,
as they go through different servers, as I have several different
accounts...

Anyway, if you could, just for testing sake, can you log into an AQ
server which is running JQ without first running the JQ mod?... I.E.
start Quake and then just log into a server... What do you see?...
Now run JQ and do the same, and what do you see?...

Thanks so much, and sorry for the inconvenience. JQ isn't actually
using any non-standard models, but the VidNull patch has been
rewritten by Matthew as there's a new version of the ZQuake engine and
then add to that, He's also implementing Mauth, (the user
authorization system) so it's really in flux right now...

Have a great day and talk with you soon!...

Smiles,

Cara :)

Re: [Audyssey] Audio Quake: eyes model detected?

2008-01-20 Thread Cara Quinn
Robin, upon rereading your note, it sounds as if your game might
actually be crashing?... If this is in fact the case, then please do
try running it with the VidNull patch disabled. In other words,
enable your graphics which will switch versions to the GL version...

This should fix the crash if that's happening...

Have a great day!... HTH

Re: [Audyssey] Audio Quake: eyes model detected?

2008-01-20 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Cara!
Thanks for your reply. Well, the problem is that the game won't start,
the only thing I can do is quit the Launcher. This happens on both my
comp and my laptop. And as I said before, I can play AQ without JQ
without any problems... Also, there were no errors during installation,
the .qmod file just installed JQ and then I hit I think enter to exit
setup... Hmmm... So yeah, what can I do now???
As for my msgs to you, the only addy that I'm using is
[EMAIL PROTECTED] I hope that will work now! I still haven't gotten
your private E-mail yet, maybe you just haven't sent it yet or it takes
some time. Also, we could talk on MSN, I'm online right now and will be
here for the next 6 hours I think. So yeah, hope we got this e-Mail
problem fixed and the AQ / JQ problem as well!

Re: [Audyssey] Audio Quake: eyes model detected?

2008-01-20 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi robin, this is an AQ problem and not a JQ one. As long as it
isn't crashing your game, you should be just fine...

This is happening in the latest version of AQ, but you can safely
ignore it. Matthew will be taking care of it in the next release /
RC...

As for your note yesterday, I'll be writing you off list along with
this note to see if you get it. Not sure why your notes might not be
getting through, which addie(s) are you using?...

Anyway, best of luck and don't worry about the error, it's simply a
harmless message at the moment...

Smiles,

Cara :)

Hey Liam, no, yer' not a dumby! lol!

I believe this is covered in one of the more obscure sections of
the manual, lol (just kidding of course!) but if it isn't for some
reason, simply do the following...

• Make sure Audio Quake is properly installed

• navigate to wherever you've saved your JQ package which should end
with the .qmod extension

• if its extension is .zip, rename it to .qmod

• press enter on the .qmod file

• the mod will install itself and you will be read out a bit of info
as it does so

• When you next start Audio Quake, type M at the main menu for a list
of installed mods

• follow the prompts to play JQ

• Enjoy! -and if you've any more probs just let me know!... :)

Have an awesome new year!!!...

Thanks for the reply, Cara. Looking forward to hearing back from you. The AQ

outdated or just don't seem to work. Hm.

Thanks muchly, and have a great one.

What do I do with this? How do I specify that the server I want to run is

Hi.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a "starting point."

It's an excellent game, as far as playability and entertainment, but
it does kind of get a little old after a while, only because there's
only so much you can do while killing people.

I highly recommend this game, as you can play by yourself, over the
internet, or over your LAN, if you have one.

It uses SAPI so make sure you either have it installed already or
download the version that installs it for you.

The manual explains the basic Audio Quake features fairly well, and
the mods you can download from http://tbrn.net/modgirl are very nice.

I wish that I could program in QC, but I don't have the patience or
the money to buy a new computer after this one goes out the window
accompanied by obscenities in every language I know and some I'd make
up...

At any rate, I hope to see you online playing AQ as soon as possible.

I promise that, if I'm online at the same time you are, I'll help you
learn the game. I don't even mind being a target...

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake

2007-07-13 Thread Trouble
Would be nice to play that game. however, nothing I do gets it out of
that demo mode, and the manual says nothing on that anywhere and
lacks quite a bit in that department.

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake

2007-07-12 Thread Dakotah Rickard

I'd like to know where I can get a server to.
try searching www. tbrn.net/modgirl.
Its got mods, and audioquake and a few other preconfigured things, probably the
entire tbrn server archive I think.
Not sure but there is loads of stuff.

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake navigating

2007-01-13 Thread Josh
yep, it makes sense. What held me up the most was finding out how to get
ahold of visual basic6 professional edition. And then I almost gave up on
getting the msdn libraries for vb6 until I happened to come across them in
two iso files on a torrent site. So I got them and now have them stored in a
few places so I don't lose them.

   Hi Josh,

>did you start out using vb before you moved on to c number?

no, I used C++ and C before C#.

>Also, is vb6 considered object oriented programming?

I've only dabbled, but to answer your question, it's almost but not quite
completely so. You can still get an idea of how OOP languages
work though, with it...
I personally would move to VB.net if I wanted to go the VB route... And I
believe that VB.net is fully object oriented. But honestly, how you code
something and how the language you choose to use acts, is really just your
own taste. Investigate a few languages on your own and see which is
easiest for you to understand while having all of the features that will
allow you to design the kinds of apps you'd like. Otherwise, the idea of
something being object oriented or not, really doesn't make sense if it
doesn't fit with what you're comfortable with. Does this make sense? My
note is just a suggestion, but really, it comes down to you...
What I feel comfortable working with might not be what you do...

Anyway, hope this makes sense. Have a wonderful evening!...

Cara

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake navigating

2007-01-13 Thread Josh
I've noticed that. I kind of figured that out by playing it a little while.
But, as of now, I'm downloading a starwars game for sighted people...that is
to say one that sighted-people play called star wars empire at war.
Hopefully I'll be able to install it, use dragon-unpacker to get the sounds,
then uninstall it using the unclean utility found on the www.jfwlite.com
website, install vb6, learn what I need to program audio games, and then
take those sounds and make a game of my own. Also, have any of you heard of
a game by microsoft called dungeon siege? It's an rpg game. If I can get the
sounds from that one after I download that one, dungeon siege that is . . .
Then I'll try and hopefully will succeed in making an accessible dungeon rpg
game. I might also at some point in the future borrow my brother's lord of
the rings war of the ring game, get the sounds from that one and try making
that one accessible also.

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake navigating

2007-01-12 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Josh, can you tell me what it IS doing when you press the G
key? It may be that a bot got your saber away from you with a mind trick,
so you won't be able to use it as you no longer have it.

Let me know...

[Audyssey] audio quake jedi quake

2007-01-12 Thread Josh
Hi,

One more thing I forgot to mention is that for some reason when playing
deathmatch it says starting devices then I have to hit spacebar or enter to
make it say starting devices again after it says stopping devices.

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake navigating

2007-01-12 Thread Josh
Hi,

I just tried it. I go into audio quake and press m for mods, then press
enter till I get to jedi-quake, then press p and enter to play jedi-quake,
then press grauv to go to console, then type dm and press enter for
death-match. Then press grauv again to exit to play the game, and I can't
swing the light saber by hitting g however r and c and n and all of those
work as they normally should. Should I use the impulses to turn them on? If
so, how do I do that?

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake navigating

2007-01-12 Thread Cara Quinn
Josh, the key that you said you set, will open / close the console, just
as you're telling me it seems to be doing.

I'm wondering, when you close the console, after you've started the
tutorial, will it then allow you to use the light saber and walk about and
do the normal Quakey sorts of things?...

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake navigating

2007-01-12 Thread Cara Quinn
Oh, I think I know what's going on. Have you closed the
console? Remember, that the console is a toggle...

Have you closed it? and is this still happening? If it is, then I have
no idea why that is, as I just tried it myself, and it works fine...

let me know exactly the steps you're taking to get where you are,
okay? And then we'll see what we can do...

Hi Josh, is it not obvious?... You can simply press and hold the up
arrow if you'd like. Are you not hearing your footsteps to let you know

As for the tutorial starting and it not letting you do certain things,
can you clarify?...

Thanks so much!...

[Audyssey] audio quake navigating

2007-01-12 Thread Josh
Hi,

When navigating in audio quake, do I have to press and hold up arrow to walk
or press it and keep pressing pressing multiple times to take a step? Like
if I want to take three steps do I have to press up arrow three times? Also
for some reason when I type tut and press enter the audio quake tutorials
start and they don't let me do anything such as turn on and off the features
of the navigational device.

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake help

2007-01-11 Thread Cara Quinn
Josh, once you have the game installed, as you now do, go ahead and
install JQ.

When you have that installed, start the game as you normally do, except
don't press s, press m, which will bring up a list of mods. From there,
you can choose Jedi Quake and the game will begin without the annoying
demo!

Let me know how it goes...

[Audyssey] audio quake help

2007-01-11 Thread Josh
Hi,

When I go into the console and hit s to start quake, I have the shareware
version installed...It seems to play by itself in a sort of demo mode. I
don't have any control over what my character does. then after it plays it
just starts over, that is, the demo starts over again. How do I get going
with this?

[Audyssey] audio quake mods

2007-01-11 Thread Josh
Hi,

Can someone tell me how to install and use the starwars mod for audio quake?
I'd really like to play some sort of star wars game. But I really can't wait
until lite-tech interactive comes out with their lite battles game, which if
its as good as the traylor suggests I'll be playing that even more than I
play star trek final conflict.
