Well one suggestion I made to Thomas Westin was simply to vary the layout, 
so that instead of putting say a sound flower and the correct tone wheels in 
the same room, you'd need to find the flower, reccord it's sound (or take it 
with you), then find what wheels it corresponds to.


that would much increase the  challenge, and also the enjoyment of exploring 
of the game simply by removing the predictable layout of the levels, sinse 
there's nothing like a good atmospheric maze, (as indeed happens in shades 
of doom).


Another fps exploration game similar to terraformers focused more on the 
exploration of the levels and solving little puzzles to progress than  moing 
down hoards of enemies might actually be a nice change, though of course 
it'd need good atmosphere and ongoing plot otherwise it'd be too dull and 
uniform.


maybe something forr people to think about with the swamp campeign editer, 
indeed thinking of swamp who wouldn't like to see an audio version of 
resident evil? ie, puzzles involving object use, an ongoing horror plot with 
intreague, a mind gnummingly creepy  atmosphere, and a situation where even 
one lone zombie is a really serious threat.


I'm actually fairly sure someone could do something along these lines with 
the swamp editer already sinse last I checked keys and doors were possible, 
though altering the game mechanics from guns blazing fps to realistically 
out of their depth and very edible humans in serious survival horror might 
be a more difficult proposition.

Yes, I played it more for the setting than anything else. I'm easily confused 
by strategy and tactics, unless I can bash it into my brain repeatedly until it 
sticks.

coordinates you can even see that the training rooms are built on the same 
map, despite the fact that the training is supposed to be in some sort of 
base somewhere else where as obviously the game is on planet telos 2. Still, 
it seems from an architectural sense everything is on the one map.


Terraformers had some irritating elements like the inability to sidestep, 
the slow walking speed, very easy to defeat enemies, and very predictable 
layout for each level, but I do love the atmosphere and over all feeling of 
the game, from the very complete and atmospheric sounds and room 
descriptions to some of the puzzle ideas, to the continuing plot about the 
main computer.


I do hope Thomas Westin will make further games in the future. He did hint 
as much when he made terraformers freeware in 2011, but we've not heard 
anything sinse unfortunately.


Btw, if anyone else is a Dr. who fan has played Terraformers, anyone 
wondered where the cybermen are if this is supposedly Telos 2? Does make you 
wonder a bit about those robots :D.

Well, Blindside kind of relates to orientation and mobility. The premise is 
that something has caused everyone to go blind and the main character goes out 
to investigate, crossing the street with a subway train stopped in the middle 
of it and finding his way around the university science building where he 
teaches in order to get various tasks done. I won't elaborate, but these tasks 
directly relate to the game plot.

I don't know if The curb Game is still available. I think it was on audiogames, 
so you'll have to wait for that to come back online. You have to make your way 
across a street, and it gets faster and more tricky as time goes by.

Of course there's my favorite game of all time, Terraformers. You are on a 
deserted planet with rogue robots and you have to find computer parts hidden in 
various places, all the while keeping track of the locations of power stations 
to give your spacesuit more juice.

Escape is the same thing as exit; there's not a lot you can do about that.
If you want to skip the training, just plow through the rooms, wait for the 
cutscene to end and then save your game with s. You can then reload and end up 
at the start of the first level.

Hi nicole.

once you get past the training level, the layout is fairly simple. you go 
through a streight passage to a place withe terminal, with exits right and 
left.
Listen to the message in the terminal then choose a left or righth direction 
to go first. Both directions on the east or west have challenges to get 
through in order to collect a part for the computer, and you'll have to get 
both.


this is how each area of the game is laid out, like several doughnuts with a 
terminal on the north and south side, and a challenge to do for the computer 
parts on the east or west sides.


As for the challenges, none are too hard, if I remember rightly on the right 
you need to collect some sound sources then run round a room and match them 
with some other sound sources to activate cannons to destroy a robot, while 
on the left there are three tone wheels and a sound flower that makes a 
noise to tell you what the tone wheels should be set to.


Energy isn't a problem sinse there are refill stations all over the place, 
just keep track of what your energy is and head back to a refill point if it 
looks low.

Not to mention it does not work that well with the hi def realtech cards.
It worked better on my singlecore  2.4ghz now dead system with the 
analog soundcard.

its real crap now in the sence that its really old.
I may try again, I have a plan in the works to pull a system from 
dad's work that may have the capability.
Otherwise if I use that for linux I have my grandpa's old computer 
with win xp which for all cases will stay win xp because  its 
recovery system is a fuzzing nightmare, del recovery systems are so unfriendly.

Anyway I may try again with that.
To be honest I am thinking about moving  all my games and maybe some 
other bits and bobs on to that system.

who knows.
Its never going to run the latest and greatest software though it 
should be fast for what I will use it for.

Just listen to the beeping code of the computer terminal. Each number as you 
press it will give you a tone, so just put in the same sequence of tones you 
got from the computer.

Hi I think you set the wheel on the far right to the highest note, the one 
in the middle to second highest and the last one 3 times up from the lowest 
pitch.  It's a while since I played it, but just listen to the 3 flower 
tones.

to be honest I didn't know you could slow the dsute down,  -I played the 
thing at normal speed and actually found the game rather too easy. A shame,

when you turn the wheel, and you hear the door opening sound you will here a 
beep and a unlocked message, turn to the door sound and you should be able to 
go through it.

yeah if the door opens then you will have to find it the door and the 
wheels are not in the same place, the door is close to the wheels but you 
need to turn left I think from memmory to find it.

you may not notice anything but there should be a serface change.

shaped, with one computer part on the east and west sides of the ring, and
one terminal on the north and south sides. So, you need to actually go in

fight
robots, there's a room with regenerating amo packs, and I believe one

I have managed to complete the top level of terraformas but I seem to get
stuck in the water level, I have the game and play it with a friend, who
has a reg of it.
Which I also share with him.
But we get stuck on part of the level, either we go round in circles or
just run out of amo.

I hadn't noticed it being ring shaped before, but now that you mension it, 
it kind of does make sense.  I've got one of the computer parts already (I 
finally figured out I could sort of fudge and go find the original file 
containing the sound flower, then listen to it outside of the game.  From 
there it was pretty simple to match the tones--twice in a row just about.

yeah they are supposed to go in order.
I have managed to complete the top level of terraformas but I seem to get stuck 
in the water level, I have the game and play it with a friend, who has a reg of 
it.
Which I also share with him.
But we get stuck on part of the level, either we go round in circles or just 
run out of amo.

Hi Ari and all.

Thanks much for the info.  Yes I do indeed hear the tone wheels just
fine through my soundblaster live card which I understand was one of the
biggest problems with the game for a lot of folks.  I will definitely
have to consider this one and I don't have the cash right now in any
case so I will just play the demo some more and make sure that I am
going to like the thing long term before I make any decision.

Hi there. the bugs are mostly seen on older machines, running windows 
98SE, but it's been 4. er.. make that 5 years since I last played the 
game.  I haven't seen thomas westen online for months, Maybe 
pininteractive is still going but I'm not sure.   It would be good if 
they were.

[Audyssey] Terraformers worth the bucks?

HI all.

Well the recent discussion on Terraformers has got me curious so I have
downloaded and installed the demo.  I have to say I am pretty impressed
with what little I have seen which isn't much, man you have to find a
powerup station right quick or you croak!  Anyhow I was noticing this
seems to be a pretty old game, the copyright is something like 2003.  So
I have a couple questions.  First are these guys still around and viable
and are they supporting this thing anymore?  Second is it worth the 40
bucks to buy the game?  Like I say it seems pretty cool but I know from
some of the messages in here some folks have run into some pretty
serious bugs while others don't seem to have had as many problems.  I
don't object to paying for stuff at all when I have the money, but I
don't want to buy something that can't be played/finished because of
bugs or problems.

listen to the tone, 
one tone is low one medium one high.
You probably should be able to figure out what you need to turn, iits a bit 
confusing but you can do it.

Now that I can hear the wheels, I can play TF, but my problem is already on 
the first level, the one just after the training. I walk to this place near 
the beginning where there are three tone wheels, and three doors. I turn the 
wheels to the highest tone, like in the training, but when I try and go to 
any of the doors, all of them are still locked, what am I doing wrong? Also, 
is there a way to make your power suite last a bit longer without having to 
recharge it, because while I'm trying to solve the tone wheel problem, I'm 
always having to go right back to this powerup station. Actually, come to 
think of it, do any of those tone wheels actually open any of those three 
doors?
