[Audyssey] Westfront

2009-05-12 Thread dark
Hi.

I've been trying out westfront, and while it's an intreaguing game, I'm finding
a couple of things mildly frustrating.

Firstly, is the way you can just get randomly teleported around by using
objects or spells and not know where you were or how to get back.

Second, is the total lack of monsters I can actually kill.

I've done the first quest with the thief and the painting, but I can't find
anything else to fight in order to make enough money to buy better armor or
more skills, or enough xp to grow stronger, --- -despite wandering about the
world with my retinue of servants.

Am I just missing something obvious here?

For a game that boast alls these monsters, -I'm seeing surprisingly few of
them, other than some uba powerful ones which I just can't kill.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Hi Kai

I tried it and for whatever reason it just didn't work for me. Paul who I
emailed also said that the .hlp was the only help file available. Bummer.
Do you use the decompiler? I'd like to read the actual help sometime.
Probably make the gameplay much easier.

Re: [Audyssey] westfront pc

2009-05-01 Thread Kai

Greetings Ron.

Yes, I've used the decompiler with the wfpc.hlp file. You have to use it in
a command shell, like thus:

1. Open the run dialog (Windows + R).

2. Type in cmd, then hit Enter or click the OK button.

3. In the resulting command prompt, type the following command:
cd PathToTheDecompiler
*To make entering the path to the decompiler easier, navigate into the
folder where the HELPDECO.EXE file resides, then copy the path from the
address bar. Next, return to the command prompt and type cd, followed by a
space. Right click the command prompt's title bar and click the Paste menu
command under the Edit submenu. Windows will paste the path in where your
cursor resides. Hit enter.

4. Now type:
helpdeco c:\wfpc\wfpc.hlp
*This is assuming you installed WFPC to the default location. If not,
correct the path as needed.

You should now have a wfpc.rtf file, plus several other bitmap (bmp) files.
You can safely delete the bitmap items.

For your convenience, I've uploaded a wfpc.txt file to Sendspace. It is the
wfpc.rtf file from the above steps, down converted to a text file. The URL
is:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/bvsdow

Hope this helps,
Kai

what is the developer's site the site on geocities is no more as is the
tripod one.

At 01:40 a.m. 27/04/2009, you wrote:
In the version I have there is a consider command, but its kind of odd. It
seems that instead of comparing the npc to your character it instead gives
you a general overview of the NPC's strength. But I agree with sean kinda,
I got somewhat far in the game but could never find anything to do, didn't
even complete a single 1 of the 50 quests and probably didn't even see an
eighth of the world. In the version up on the developer's site, its got 50
quests, and over 1800 rooms, with plenty of NPC's populating it. I'll have
to give it another go one of these days perhaps, but I couldn't find much
to do really. I'm not sure what version you guys have, but the one I have
is called the trials of gildur, and has westfrom 1 through 5 in it, all
combined fairly neatly into one world. That is to say they can still be
played as sepperate games, but each world also has a link in certain zones
to at least one of the other worlds. Its really tough to find and explore
everything with no hints or o
bvious objectives, being pretty much dropped straight into the middle of
the game with almost nothing. It was a pretty fun game though, if I could
find a walkthrough or some such thing to the quests and the like I'd
probably be able to get into it because I'd have more direction to go in
rather than wandering the giant continent trying not to get lost. For
those of you that play, provided you're playing the trials of gildur,
would you mind letting me know if you come up with anything? Thanks.

Hi,
The link is below. You might want to hit H for headings if you use jaws
because the top of the page has a lot of ads and such on it, but everything

what is the developer's site the site on geocities is no more as is the
tripod one.

At 01:40 a.m. 27/04/2009, you wrote:

It seems that instead of comparing the npc to your character it instead
gives you a general overview of the NPC's strength. But I agree with sean
kinda, I got somewhat far in the game but could never find anything to
do, didn't even complete a single 1 of the 50 quests and probably didn't
even see an eighth of the world. In the version up on the developer's
site, its got 50 quests, and over 1800 rooms, with plenty of NPC's
populating it. I'll have to give it another go one of these days perhaps,
but I couldn't find much to do really. I'm not sure what version you guys
have, but the one I have is called the trials of gildur, and has westfrom
1 through 5 in it, all combined fairly neatly into one world. That is to
say they can still be played as sepperate games, but each world also has
a link in certain zones to at least one of the other worlds. Its really
tough to find and explore everything with no hints or o
bvious objectives, being pretty much dropped straight into the middle of
the game with almost nothing.
Thanks.

[Audyssey] westfront pc

2009-04-26 Thread shaun everiss
hi.
found another place to get this game
I searched for download westfront pc.
the version on cnet is actually easier to get than the other link given.
on that note what the heck do I do once installed.
I started with the first world made my char, etc and looked at my bag.
I have doodled with the help index but I really have no idea what to do.
there are vary little places to go.
I go up the bar steps, there is nothing.
I go west.
nothing to do there either, I go east.
nothing empty room.
I go north.
There is a trojan, aparently I can not kill him, so does he actually have any
purpose other than decoration.
what is captain swiggle and the wizard npcs.
never got swiggle working I have no idea how to exit out of the game so I make
it go away so I don't touch it.
However issue is I can't get passed the centries.
On that note where do I actually go.
I have nowhere to go.
I need some hints or something, I have no idea what to do in the game.

Re: [Audyssey] westfront pc

2009-04-26 Thread Matheus
hey shaun, in the game, you don't have a unic objective that you must
follow. first, you have to find a shop, where you can buy a good weapon,
equip your self with some armor, and then start for npcs to kill, one
thing that i don't know is that i don't think that you can consider your
enemy. before attacking. well maybe there's a spell in some place where
you can do that, i don't know.
also, you'll find after exploring a bit many skills / spells to buy, one
more thing, if you arrive at the shop, and it says it's closed, don't
worry, type time that the weather and time change constantly.

In the version I have there is a consider command, but its kind of odd. It
seems that instead of comparing the npc to your character it instead gives
you a general overview of the NPC's strength. But I agree with sean kinda,
 I
got somewhat far in the game but could never find anything to do, didn't
even complete a single 1 of the 50 quests and probably didn't even see an
eighth of the world. In the version up on the developer's site, its got 50
quests, and over 1800 rooms, with plenty of NPC's populating it. I'll have
to give it another go one of these days perhaps, but I couldn't find much
 to
do really. I'm not sure what version you guys have, but the one I have is
called the trials of gildur, and has westfrom 1 through 5 in it, all
combined fairly neatly into one world. That is to say they can still be
played as sepperate games, but each world also has a link in certain zones
to at least one of the other worlds. Its really tough to find and explore
everything with no hints or obvious objectives, being pretty much dropped
straight into the middle of the game with almost nothing. It was a pretty
fun game though, if I could find a walkthrough or some such thing to the
quests and the like I'd probably be able to get into it because I'd have
more direction to go in rather than wandering the giant continent trying
 not
to get lost. For those of you that play, provided you're playing the
 trials
of gildur, would you mind letting me know if you come up with anything?
 Thanks.

The consider command is assess, you learn it in the church for 1000 gold.
And yeah, I always forget about the hint command. Thanks for the reminder. A
few tips on getting started, get into the adventurers guild, and get all the
bodyguards. Get your friend faldor to follow you, and get the wolf if you
can. That'll set you up with a pretty awesome party and you'll be able to
kill most things. From then on its kind of up to you, you can see what
you're supposed to do for your quest by typing quest. Still, the quests are
kind of vague once you get past the second one, I still haven't managed to
complete quest 3 yet. Have been wandering around letting my varitable army
destroy npc's and gaining levels.

Just return it to the adventurers guild room. I'm not even sure if you have
to drop it or not. As for the wolf, you'll soon get a monster drop that you
can give to it to get it to follow you. The wolf dies ocasionally though,
and if he does you can reload the game and he'll revive, and while you can
only kill that monster once, the item you use to get him to follow you them
becomes available at the shop. HTH.

Re: [Audyssey] westfront pc

2009-04-26 Thread Shadow Dragon

Massive spoilers.

To get the wolf to follow you in your party, you have to give him the steak
you get from the vampire. The vampire is the boss of the second quest. To do
the first quest, you first have to buy the key from the shop to get into the
adventurers guild. If you have patience to play enough darts you can easily
get all the starting skills and all 3 bodyguards from the adventurers guild.
You can equip faldoer with a weapon and armor to make him stronger as well.
Once you have all 3 bodyguards, the wolf and faldor, you should be well on
your way to a solid party.

The weapon I'm using is the wizclave, which you get from a wizard in the
forest. He's a bit tough to find though. For armor I've got the robe, from
the wizard, the armor, which you seemingly get at random, the vest and belt
from the shop, the suit from the drunk, the shroud and visor from the
centurion and the anklet from the sentry north of the village. Faldor's got
the thief's cloak on, the boots from the shop, and is wielding the claymore
you get from the fireking in a crypt in a house somewhere in the forest I
believe.

Re: [Audyssey] westfront pc

2009-04-26 Thread shaun everiss
what is the developer's site the site on geocities is no more as is the tripod
one.
At 01:40 a.m. 27/04/2009, you wrote:
In the version I have there is a consider command, but its kind of odd. It
seems that instead of comparing the npc to your character it instead gives you
a general overview of the NPC's strength. But I agree with sean kinda, I got
somewhat far in the game but could never find anything to do, didn't even
complete a single 1 of the 50 quests and probably didn't even see an eighth of
the world. In the version up on the developer's site, its got 50 quests, and
over 1800 rooms, with plenty of NPC's populating it. I'll have to give it
another go one of these days perhaps, but I couldn't find much to do really.
I'm not sure what version you guys have, but the one I have is called the
trials of gildur, and has westfrom 1 through 5 in it, all combined fairly
neatly into one world. That is to say they can still be played as sepperate
games, but each world also has a link in certain zones to at least one of the
other worlds. Its really tough to find and explore everything with no hints or
o
bvious objectives, being pretty much dropped straight into the middle of the
game with almost nothing. It was a pretty fun game though, if I could find a
walkthrough or some such thing to the quests and the like I'd probably be able
to get into it because I'd have more direction to go in rather than wandering
the giant continent trying not to get lost. For those of you that play,
provided you're playing the trials of gildur, would you mind letting me know if
you come up with anything? Thanks.

Hi,
I have jaws and XP and the game seems to run fine. You kind of have to
switch the cursor modes to read the information but that is simple enough to
do.

There's a good bit of info on the homepage you can look up on the game.
There is indeed an eventual end to it but no idea how long that might take
to get to. Too bad the smurf village was lost. *l*

The consider command is assess, you learn it in the church for 1000 gold.
And yeah, I always forget about the hint command. Thanks for the reminder.
A
few tips on getting started, get into the adventurers guild, and get all
the

bodyguards. Get your friend faldor to follow you, and get the wolf if you
can. That'll set you up with a pretty awesome party and you'll be able to
kill most things. From then on its kind of up to you, you can see what
you're supposed to do for your quest by typing quest. Still, the quests
are

kind of vague once you get past the second one, I still haven't managed to
complete quest 3 yet. Have been wandering around letting my varitable army
destroy npc's and gaining levels.

2009-04-26 Thread Kai

Greetings Ron.

The Smurph Village is still in the most recent version of Westfront PC.

*Hint*:
While Smurphs are a patriarchal society, it will take democracy to reach
them.
