A broomstick wouldn't be beneficial during the duel because your opponent
will have an illustrious opportunity to shoot you down through the air just
as you are attempting to shoot him where he or she's standing. For one, a
broomstick is long, so your opponent could fire any offensive spell at the
tail of the broom, resulting in the decimation of it. The only way it will
be useful to you is if you were dueling in a mountain and if you were
required to hover above a glacier or a very large bolder. But you'd have to
be incredibly quick to pull off such a tactic.

Hi Chandu,

Well, I've honestly got some mixed feelings about this one. The idea
of a wizard duel sounds ok in of itself, but I can't help but feel as
though the game is too simplistic in design. it lacks any kind of
complexity or depth I'd expect from a good audio game.

What I mean by that is you talk about walking left or right, pressing
a key to jump or duck, etc. Sadly like so many audio games you are
thinking about a one dimensional game where most if not all the action
is along the x axis. In its own way it is basically Troopenum or Dark
Destroyer except instead of moving left/right and shooting down space
ships you are casting spells at another wizard. As we have far too
many of these simplistic games already I'd personally like to see
something with a little more complexity or depth then move left and
right shooting at something or someone. Make sense?

One way to make this more interesting is maybe to create some court
yard or arena where you can move around in 2d or 3d, duck behind
statues, or cast a hovering charm so you can perform some kind of
aerial attack from the sky, etc. expand the idea so you are not
trapped into a single axis of movement.Even a 2d game would be more
complex than your initial game idea.

Cheers!

Each round consists of a specific time, Say, 15 minutes.
You start with a few offensive and defensive spells, and a potions
belt which consists of some healing potions.

You use your left and right ctrl keys to dodge left and right, alt to

Another suggestion came into my head as I was reading your email. How about
the ability to create a group of powerful shields in a dome like structure
and hide in it? This can be overwhelmingly useful for you because you can
prepare to cast a spell while your opponent is attempting to incapacitate
you. Maybe your opponent should have the same ability to so it levels the
playing field.

Hi Muhammed,

Sure. Illusion is definitely a good way to confuse and distract an
enemy opponent. Plus in some games the illusion itself might be able
to cast spells etc doing some extra damage at the same time as you.

Transfiguration could be effective if, and I do mean if, you have the
ability to change into a more powerful creature. If you can turn into
a dragon, for example, then the dragons armor and fire would make an
incredible weapon against an opponent. Turning into an owl might be a
great disguise but not necessarily an effective weapon in a combat
situation like a dragon would be.

Re: [Audyssey] game ideas, anyone like it?

2012-02-05 Thread Thomas Ward

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] game ideas, anyone like it?

2012-02-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dennis,

Yes, that is precisely a point I tried to make to him earlier this
week. Ideas themselves are a dime a dozen, but actually making it into
a workable game is another thing entirely.

For example, for the last couple of years I've been toying with the
idea of a roll playing game. I've had plenty of ideas, good ones, but
have had to reject them or update them for one reason or another. the
process of going from idea to game isn't as easy as it sounds.

Although, I believe that this game idea requires comments and
suggestions which I'll address separately in its own e-mail with the
attention and respect it deserves.

Cheers!

Chandu (and everyone else),

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but as a game developer, I think
there is something you should know: the idea is the easy part. I
have half a dozen text files each containing literally thousands of
game ideas which I've had over the past fifteen years. I even have a
couple different versions of your idea below in there.

Pretty much all professional game developers have thousands of ideas
they'd like to work on. Ideas are a dime a dozen. The hard part is
actually making the game, and if you really want to see your idea
become reality, that's where you need to focus.

Hi Lex,
At the moment I'm not really sure how I plan to license the Genesis
Engine. My main reason for creating it in the first place was so that i
could create games quickly and without a lot of work. Although, I am not
writing games specifically for money I would like to make a little
something off of creating and selling my games. If I release Genesis as
open source, under a creative commons license, or some other free license
it could come back to bite me financially.
I'm well aware that there are lots of people here that want to get their
hands on a good game engine that is free, doesn't require a lot of
programming, and that might allow them to create games they like. There
are even some that want to create games to sell. That's all well and good,
but I need to make a living too.
If I release it as open source I am in a sense turning control of the
engine and its source over to the blind gaming community as public
property. As such anyone could freely modify it, sell it, create games
with it, and I don't make anything off of it. I'm not sure I want to give
all of my time and work away for free. I'd like to make something off of
it financially.
If I decide to sell it I might not make loads of money off of it, but I
could make something off of it. If I license it to another developer he or
she would give me say 25% of their income from their game sales to
maintain the software license. If they sell 100 games at $30 per unit sold
my take from the sales would be something like $750 and his or her take
would be around $2250. Not great money, but it would be a little money to
put back into USA Games and allow me to improve the engine, buy and
license better sound effects and music, pay for development software, and
other operating expenses. It is good business to license it rather than
make it open source.

Hi Thomas,
My setence: "Thinking that it would sell so much, I don't understand why no
developer ever thought about that!" was about an eventual football game and
not a nashcargame!
I know the description of UsaRaceway but the point is that I´ve known the
description of that game since six years ago in ESP website if I remember
well!
I know the game was not yours before but you knew it and you also knew the
hopes that this game created for people!
I am willing, and trust me, I will be the first to purchase it but my point
is that a client buys a game and not promises!
In my professional life, I am asked to present products and I have to sell
the product and not the hope for years!
This is why I say, when the game is realised, wait for my order that will
come in the first days!

or Quidditch, I have no idea how to represent by sound all of the players, the
ball or puck, and the goal. And of course how to have you be able to control
what all of your players are doing all at the same time.

Any ideas?

Actually, there is a racing game exactly like that being developed It is

Re: [Audyssey] game ideas

2009-08-18 Thread Matheus
hi jorge.
i agree, only these games with a lot of features and replaiability will
keep me interested for monts and these are the only games that i'm
willing to buy. one example of that is entombed, you see, you will never
get bored onse the final product comes out, since each new game,
everything new, lots of possibilities, etc. mysteries of the ancients
will be a fun game, bekause there are some random factors that will make
i want to play the game from time to time bekause the different
monsters locations and itens. unfortunately, and i know that the side
scrollers works like this, but having no different places to explore wen
starting a game will reduce the replaiability for a bit.
and i agree with jorge about the soccer game. i'm also in this list that
he's talking about, and a lot of brazilians, and i believe peoples from
other countries are also waiting for a game like this.
not something like super football from vipgameszone, no! certain not!
the restrictions that you have wen playing the game are simple
unbelievable, making it boring to play the game.
i don't know exactly how to explain, but if you play a game like fifa
2008, you will see what i mean.
and i'd love to see a basketball game.
the racing game that you talk about, thomas is going to work on a game
similar to this wen mysteries of the ancients is finished.

Hello friends,
I´ve been playing audiogames for 6 years now and I also have some ideas
about them!
I always thought that blind gamers are willing to pay for some
entertainement but for this to happen I think the gamer, who is a client,
should be respected. And what it means to be respected is to be offered a
game with quality, challenge, with features that make you want to play for
years.
For example, I proudly purchased Railracer because for me it was the best
audiogame ever made and it totally was worth the money spent on it. This is
what I call supporting the developers: they present you a game with quality,
more or less in the deadlines that are supposed to be and that even includes
online gaming that keeps your interest in the game! It´s a matter of trust.
Let's face the reality, some of the free games from Jim Kitchen are better
than some other paid games: PCGolf was my first audiogame and I still play
the newest version a lot!
There are two games which are absolutely missing in the market and I am sure
that they would sell a lot if they are ever released!
A football game (soccer) because developers should remember that the world
is not only the United States of America and that in the rest of the world
this game is loved by millions of people, and I guess that a big majority of
non american players are waiting for this for years.
I belong to a list of hundrets of audiogamers with portuguese and spanish
language and almost everyone agrees that a game like that would be a
craziness for us!
Thinking that it would sell so much, I don't understand why no developer
ever thought about that!

Re: [Audyssey] game ideas

2009-08-17 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Michael,
As a matter of fact I've got similar game ideas written down in my games
to do text file. Once I complete work on my 3d game engine it will be
fairly easy for me to crank out games like Resident Evil, a haunted
house type game, or just about anything else that is in an FPS type format.

Smile.
