Although, Shane's skills might be even more lower. I will face you in the

Really col game, as i said before, i like this idea, cause i like a 2d
games, especially with HQ sounds and music, and original concept.

It's a free tittle, but if you want updating it, i think good will be
add some new content, like bonus things, to get game longer, and more
complex.

I think it's not big problem to put inside more great things, and for
you and your imagine will be OK.

Again, good job!

If Philip plans to add in the key to find out how many squares me and my
oponent are left with, I suggest using left shift for myself and right shift
for my oponent.
I especially want to know when any of us have only one square left. Maybe add a
beap or simple sound when that happens, high to tell me that i am left with
last square and low for my oponent.

I agree about the footstep volume, and in fact I have made a related comment
about number of squares on audiogames.net, sinse it'd be nice to have some
score or statistics at the end of the game to know how well each player did
rather than just a symple win or loss.

I'm afraid I don't agree about the rocks though, I find the two sound
affects completely fine myself. In addition to the pitch shifting, Your
rocks make a continuous grinding sound, while your opponent's make a broken
grinding sound almost like a set of ticks, which is more than enough.

Actually, I think having your opponent's rocks go from lowest to highest
pitch would slightly upset some of the feeling of the game, sinse the
lowering pitch denotes the rock scraping down a section of wall, which
effect you wouldn't get with a raising pitch (unless of course the rocks
  float upwards ;D).

As to limiting rocks and power ups, I'm not certain. The rock chucking
frequency is already pretty limiting in itself, as is the need to defend
your wall, and I'm not precisely sure how bonus items would work,
particularly in terms of game balance.

  Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] Palace Punch-up Released!

2010-07-11 Thread Kelvin Tan
hi phillip and all. i got a few comments and suggestions for palace punch
up.

1. i find that our foot steps are kind of difficult to be heard in the midst
of multiple stones flying to and fro, so maybe the volume of the foot steps
can be raised in the next version if possible?

2. when too many rocks are being flung to and from, sometimes it's not easy
to differenciate between those rocks of my opponents and mine. because other
then both sounds having different frequencies, both are lowering in pitch as
they try to penitrate the opponents walls. can i suggest maybe for those
rocks that we fling towards our opponents, the pitch goes from lowest to
highest instead of highest to lowest so that it should be easier to
differenciate between incoming and outgoing rocks.

3. very often, players will be blindly flinging in this game. may i suggest
limiting the number of rocks for each player? say maybe every 20 rocks every
30 seconds or something, with maybe some bonus items to collect e.g. more
powerful hammer or stones.

4. it would be good to know how many squares of my opponents are left for me
to destroy as well.

what to u think of my suggestions above people?

Hi everyone,

I am happy to announce the release of Palace Punch-up, an arcade/action game
where your objective is to break your opponent's palace into a pile of
debris by throwing rocks at it. At the same time, of course, you have to
protect your own palace from suffering the same unhappy end.

This game is freeware, and can be played both against the computer and
against a human opponent over the internet, on six difficulty levels.

Head over to blastbay.com and grab your copy today!

Kind regards,

Philip Bennefall

Hi Oriol,

This one was easy to fix. I have now made the one player superior internally
so that they check the winning condition for both, and informs the other
player about who won. This prevents race conditions like what you describe.

Also i found that the game sometimes does not know who won.
I seem to have heard a conversation between two members of audiogame
meetings where the game asked them both to wait for the other to
choose a difficulty level.

Re: [Audyssey] PALACE PUNCH UP ISSUE

2010-07-10 Thread Philip Bennefall

Hi Oriol,

This one was easy to fix. I have now made the one player superior internally
so that they check the winning condition for both, and informs the other
player about who won. This prevents race conditions like what you describe.

Hi everyone,

I am happy to announce the release of Palace Punch-up, an arcade/action
game where your objective is to break your opponent's palace into a pile
of debris by throwing rocks at it. At the same time, of course, you have
to protect your own palace from suffering the same unhappy end.

This game is freeware, and can be played both against the computer and
against a human opponent over the internet, on six difficulty levels.

Head over to blastbay.com and grab your copy today!

Kind regards,

Re: [Audyssey] Palace Punch-up Released!

2010-07-09 Thread Damien Pendleton

Hi Scott and all,
A small tip here: If you don't want to read the advertisements and other
insignificant stuff on the whatismyip.com page, you can simply use
whatismyip.org and it will simply bring up your IP address.

Regards,
Damien.

Hey Lori,

The good news is that this IP stuff is pretty simple to get your head
around, at least, in this context it is. Your IP is simply a string of
numbers that identifies your computer to anything you might want to
connect too. Every computer with any sort of network interface has
one, and in the case of internet conectivity your IP is usually
automatically assigned by your service provider, and will likely
change from time to time when you reconnect. There are ways of keeping
it the same at all times, they call that a static IP, but you'll know
if that applies to you because chances are you'll be being charged for
the privilage lol.

So, to find out what your current IP is, just go to
www.whatismyip.com. Near the top of that page, you'll find a line that
displays your current IP. For example, mine is currently
188.223.43.44.

Palace Punch-up connects two computers. So, if you're hosting the
game, you just need to check your current IP at www.whatismyip.com,
and give that number to whoever you want to be able to connect to you.
If someone else is acting as host, just ask for there IP, choose to
join a game, and paste it there.

It's worth noting that the first time you play online, Windows
Firewall will likely throw a warning up at you that Palace Punch-up is
trying to access the internet. So far as I can tell, Philip isn't an
evil crime lord who'll hack your computer, rob your identity, sell
your data, or do anything along those exciting lines, so your probably
safe to click "Allow".

If you're still stuck, just shout...
Scott

people are familiar with the game.

Hello.

Really col game, as i said before, i like this idea, cause i like a 2d
games, especially with HQ sounds and music, and original concept.

It's a free tittle, but if you want updating it, i think good will be add
some new content, like bonus things, to get game longer, and more complex.

I think it's not big problem to put inside more great things, and for you
and your imagine will be OK.

Again, good job!

Re: [Audyssey] Palace Punch-up Released!

2010-07-09 Thread Scott Chesworth

Scott

Hi everyone,

I am happy to announce the release of Palace Punch-up, an arcade/action
game where your objective is to break your opponent's palace into a pile
of debris by throwing rocks at it. At the same time, of course, you have
to protect your own palace from suffering the same unhappy end.

This game is freeware, and can be played both against the computer and
against a human opponent over the internet, on six difficulty levels.

Head over to blastbay.com and grab your copy today!

Philip Bennefall
