Hi. Oh, I meant the ms dos prompt had the same features as just plain dos as apose to that not being the case for windows xp's command prompt. Is this so? Sorry don't wanna tell someone else that it is if that's not right, but I do know there are things 98 ms dos prompt will do that xp's command prompt won't. - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward To: Gamers Discussion list Sent: Friday, November 14, 2008 5:45 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Daus. Re: [Audyssey] Daus.
Hi Charles, Grin. I still write batch files. Most of the time I do it for software development purposes. Like if I have a large Java project i use a batch file to automate the compile process and create the jar file. I also use a command line C/C++ compiler called gcc, and the best way to build stuff is use a batch file that compiles everything for me. It takes all the grunt work out of typing everything. So, hey, writing batch files are fun. I am still a command line geek at heart. I sometimes miss the days when Dos was the only thing in town. At least back then i could install the entire OS using Jaws for Dos. Charles Rivard wrote: Ah. Wasn't it fun writing batch files and seeing them work after you wrote them? That's what got me interested in learning programming. Unfortunately, the only skilled reader that could be found at the time had to stop reading for me during the learning of COBOL. I had to drop out of a fast-paced course due to this. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Hi Charles, Or if you are real lazy and spend allot of time at the command prompt you can write a batch file that looks like echo off exit Now put that in c:\windows and call it e.bat. So now all you do is type e and enter rather than exit and enter. I also have a short cut icon on the desk top to the command prompt. And then there are a bunch of little batch files such as GoBak.bat, BoBas.bat, GoKit.bat etc to take me to the directories where I make back up files, check things out etc. TGIF and BFN Jim If you redo a batch file, does it become a son of a batch [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.kitchensinc.net (440) 286-6920 Chardon Ohio USA --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. all versions of windows have dos on them. from ww95 to xp, its just emulated in the xp and up systems, well 2000 its emulated and in win me its emulated. The last full version is 6.22, but there is dos 7 floating around somewhere. I wouldn't install it on your primary partition, unless you want to use a fat 16 edrive dos7 is all you can use, and if you have a fat32 drive you can use dos7. If you have no idea what I am talking about chances are you don't have either of these. If you want dos you can use dosemu on linux I suppose or the command line thingy. there is also dosbox although I have personaly not used this. You can also go into the programs, then accessories, and it is in there, called command prompt. After your work in the DOS environment, or as close to it as we can now get, you type the word "exit" without those quotation marks, and you're back into Windows. First of all, it's DOS. D O S. Stands for Disk Operating System if I'm not mistaken. And if you deleted it wouldn't that cause problems with the rest of the machine? I'm no expert on the inner workings of computers, which is probably why you've seen no actual games from me. But you have to really be careful what yo delete.
