Re: [Audyssey] dragon warrior question

2007-03-14 Thread Lisa Leonardi
Thanks for sending me those links. Sorry it's taken me awhile to get back to
you, I had a computer problem over part of the weekend.
The second link you provided got me to where I needed to go, and I was able
to download the game. But the first link still asks me to click ok to accept
an active x control, and crashes internet explorer when i do.
However, everything is fine with the second link so I am currently
downloading the game.
Thanks.

 Hi Lisa,
When I clicked on that link to Dragon Warrior
 http://server.dragonslayergames.net/dragonslayergames/
I got to their home page.
Then I clicked on the game at:
 http://server.dragonslayergames.net/dragonslayergames/dw.html
There was a link to download the game named
 dragonwarrior.zip
I ran into no active X control

Ah, I didn't realize this was that game.
Well, if it does turn out to be the super Liam rip-off, I won't keep playing
it. I think that L-works does great work, and I love their games, so I
respect them too much to play a game that plagerized their work.

if i ever get a beta, i'll make a game recording which demonstrates

aaron. this is my personal view and doesn't necisarily speak for the view
of anyone else. In my personal opinion Ivan is not mature enough to program
his way out of a paper bag. He has demonstratedonseveral ocasions his lack
of maturity. He has tried to rip off Lworks on more than one ocasion. What
amazes me is that people still believe he has a possible product that is
original. To say that maybe he is keeping the game secret is one of the
dumbest things I've ever heard. I consider that a personal insult. The
only thinghe is keeping secret is the fact that all he can do is rip off
someone's hard work. I don't want to turn this in to a flame war, but I
suggest that anyone who has any further dealing with Ivan should keep in
mind that he is a 15 year old who believes that he can use other people's
products for personal gain. If anyone has any issues with this, feel free
to talk to me offlist. I have had to deal with this kid on multiple
ocasions.

Dragon warrior is a game made by Dragonslayer games.
Dragon warriors is claimed to be a game, but its just a mod of super liam.
Just a final note on this, without resurrecting the dragon warriors topic and
the problems with Ivan, maybe the name dragon warriors came from dragon
warrior.
Of course it can happen accidentialy, but after the things which he did and
said i am not sure.

Hi Dark,
Considering Ivan's age, something of 15 or so, it wouldn't surprise me
if he wasn't using the name Dragon Warriors from Dragon Slayer Games and
Super Liam from L-Works to make himself sound like a game developer. I
know through private discussions with Ivan his maturity is not, shall we
say, as mature as one would hope. Also way back when I had asked him
what language the game was written in he answered Java, and when I
started asking specific questions about libraries and so on he didn't
have a clue what I was talking about. This hinted to me Ivan didn't know
anything about Java, and it was just one more lie to add to the
considerable size of other lies told up to that point.

Hay guys please understand ivan's situation. The boy lost his dad and his

assured me that ivan isn't using liam's sounds anymore. Ivan begged so many
times to get back onto this list.
It happened all like this: one day I received out of the blue a message from
ivan threatening me that he will ban me from his list. He accused me of
jumping down him. So I wrote him a straight forward message back telling him
that he is the guilty one, he stole another dev's ideas AND NOW HE WANTS TO
BAN ME FROM his list while I'm innoscent. I told him that in south Africa
kids who did something like that were either prisoned or spanked. john and
ivan begged me to please understand that he is going through a lot of
trauma.
Ivan has begged me so many times to ask Thomas to put him back on list. If
one goes through trauma you are not yourself and you do things that you
won't do if you were not in trauma. Ivan noticed his mistake and once again
john assured me he left liam's sounds.
So this is the contact I had with ivan and what I can tell you guys .

Hi Nicole,
I'm sure no-one will deny losing family members isn't a traumatic
experience. But honestly, that doesn't give Ivan an excuse to take
something and call it his own.
He may not have the sounds any more, but his dragon game is certainly
too much like Superliam to pass off as simply co-incidental. I mean,
even having the acts makes it suss.
If Ivan has caused this amount of drama and off-list drama with the

2007-01-14 Thread Steve Crawford
If you create a game with external WAV files there's a risk that someone
will come along with their copy of Goldwave, or some other such package, and
make changes. You can save them as a resource file which just adds it to the
executible, so you can end up with a huge executible which probably isn't
healthy. Or you can use a simple trick which is to take, say, the intro
sound file, which identifies your programme, make a note of the filesize and
take a fingerprint from it (say a dozen values from random locations within
the file). On starting, your executible could check the size of the intro
file and the fingerprint and then refuse to run if it has been changed.

Hay guys please understand ivan's situation. The boy lost his dad and his
brother. He is really a trauma case. He's not himself. John, his mentor
assured me that ivan isn't using liam's sounds anymore. Ivan begged so
 many
times to get back onto this list.
It happened all like this: one day I received out of the blue a message
 from
ivan threatening me that he will ban me from his list. He accused me of
jumping down him. So I wrote him a straight forward message back telling
 him
that he is the guilty one, he stole another dev's ideas AND NOW HE WANTS
 TO
BAN ME FROM his list while I'm innoscent. I told him that in south
 Africa
kids who did something like that were either prisoned or spanked. john
 and
ivan begged me to please understand that he is going through a lot of
 trauma.
Ivan has begged me so many times to ask Thomas to put him back on list. If
one goes through trauma you are not yourself and you do things that you
won't do if you were not in trauma. Ivan noticed his mistake and once
 again
john assured me he left liam's sounds.
So this is the contact I had with ivan and what I can tell you guys .
Please give him another chance. Although it might sound like liams's
 sounds,

 Hi Josh and all,
I am not certain that Dragon Warrior is an actual game. Previously, on
this list Ivan, the aledged developer of Dragon Warrior, took Liam's
game Super Liam, modified the sounds, and attempted to pass it off as
Dragon Warrior. It was one of the factors that wound up getting him
 banned from this forem.
According to the recent podcast it still seams like Super Liam with a
bunch of new sounds added, and a few other nifty tricks to throw you
off. So bottom line I really don't trust Ivan or his word very much.
One other thing is in the last Audyssey magazine I remember someone else
was supposed to be designing Dragon Warrior, and that person and company
was not Ivan. My guess is Ivan took the name of an unfinished game and
slapped it on his aledged creation.
Sorry folks to be so negative about this, but I just can't trust him
much after his last endever on this forem.
 Smile.

It is not liam's sounds, but man, it is Liam's game. If you made a game,
would you appreciate people ripping it apart and claiming it's their game? I
doubt it. That's is why game devs encrypt sounds now.

If you create a game with external WAV files there's a risk that someone
will come along with their copy of Goldwave, or some other such package,
and
make changes. You can save them as a resource file which just adds it to
the
executible, so you can end up with a huge executible which probably isn't
healthy. Or you can use a simple trick which is to take, say, the intro
sound file, which identifies your programme, make a note of the filesize
and
take a fingerprint from it (say a dozen values from random locations
within
the file). On starting, your executible could check the size of the intro
file and the fingerprint and then refuse to run if it has been changed.

 Hi Dark,
Considering Ivan's age, something of 15 or so, it wouldn't surprise me
if he wasn't using the name Dragon Warriors from Dragon Slayer Games and
Super Liam from L-Works to make himself sound like a game developer. I
know through private discussions with Ivan his maturity is not, shall we
say, as mature as one would hope.

 Dark wrote:
 Hi thom.

Dragon warrior is indeed the name of a turn based fighting game from
 Dragonslayer gamees
 http://server.dragonslayergames.net/dragonslayergames/.
I assumed that the name of Ivans game was a co-incidence but now with
 what
you say I'm not so sure about that either.

As I said before, I was prepared to give Ivan the bennifit of the doubt
(particularly as I wasn't aware of what he'd done previously, but
 from
everything I've heard I don't believe there's any doubt to derive
 bennifit
 from.

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Dragon Warrior

2007-01-14 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Nicol, just so you know, I don't know Ivan at all, so this is my
somewhat objective view on the game. for me, the similarity didn't come
from the sounds, but from the actual game play itself.

It sounds to me as if someone simply took the game code and put their
own sounds into it, plain and simple! smile

so if that is indeed true, then that is in essence, stealing. Is it not?...

Anyway, again, I don't know Ivan, and I definitely don't want to get in
the middle of any of this sort of thing, but I did want to share my
impressions of his pod cast.

Aside from any of the above issues, if this person is in some serious
upset and needs some companionship / guidance, then I truly wish them well
and hope to see them come through all of that and succeed without needing
to resort to distasteful things...

Anyway, just my thoughts, and have a most wonderful day!...

Smiles,

Cara

If you create a game with external WAV files there's a risk that someone
will come along with their copy of Goldwave, or some other such package,
and
make changes. You can save them as a resource file which just adds it to
the
executible, so you can end up with a huge executible which probably isn't
healthy. Or you can use a simple trick which is to take, say, the intro
sound file, which identifies your programme, make a note of the filesize
and
take a fingerprint from it (say a dozen values from random locations
within
the file). On starting, your executible could check the size of the intro
file and the fingerprint and then refuse to run if it has been changed.

Re: [Audyssey] Dragon Warrior

2007-01-14 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Rachel and all,
Here is a very simple example of one of the things Ivan was doing prier
to being banned from this list.
While he was on moderated status he would advertise there was a demo or
a trailer of Dragon Warriors up on such and such asight. One time he even
said Raul had the DW trailer on Raul's sight.
Before aproving the messages Raul and I investigated the messages and
found in those instances there was nothing there. Ivan was publisising
something that didn't exist.
Well, he begged Raul to put his dw trailer up, and never sent it to Raul
even though Raul had asked for it many times. When the trailer did come
it was definately Super Liam with some sound changes, and the recording
slowed way down.
That is only a very miner example of the kinds of things Ivan was doing
off list, and trying to send to the list, but we blocked them, and
handled all of it behind the seens.
I'd like to end on this note. Neither Kevin, Raul, or myself hold
anything personal against Ivan. We do however have rules for all listers
to follow, and Ivan was one who constantly broke the rules, and when we
tried to talk to him about breaking the rules, Ivan behaved very
disrespectfully to us, and his lack of respect ended up in his dismissile.

Hi,
Agreed. When you use someone elses executable even though the sounds are
changed it is still breaking the copyrights for that game, and is
steeling someone elses hard work.
In the past I have Made sound packs for say Lonewolf and Trek 2000, and
have made them publically available. The difference though is I still
give GMA Games the full credit for the game, and I don't repackage those
games as my own. I only take credit for the sounds I personally created
as add ons.
If Ivan would have made his Dragon
Warrior sound pack available, and said here is my dragon battle pack for
SL then noone would mind. However, Ivan says this is his game, his
sounds, and the similar game play and other things appears to be Super
Liam with little doubt in my mind.

A thought for all: Read the agreements that we agreed to when we bought

And to add to that, Tom, I was a large part of the first atempt at this
Dragon Warrior thing. If you remember, I was one of the first to receive his
fake gameplay recording. I also got a supposed game executable, which turned
out to be a bunch of AutoIt code probably copied and pasted directly from
the AutoIt manual. I say copy and pasted because the same lines of code
appeared multiple times, and I believe it was just code to check for a
program's version number or some such thing. I no longer have this script,
but I just thought I'd mention the evidence I received for those who hadn't
heard before.

Re: [Audyssey] Dragon Warrior

2007-01-14 Thread Munawar Bijani
Hello,
Liam, I did find the invalid syntax message at the beginning of the game
odd as well. If it was indeed a real error, he would have had to type
something to fix it, and chances are one runs a program and makes sure it
works well before reviewing it; usually programs are not run for review if
they do not run. Secondly, I noticed that the footstep sounds had the exact
rhythm of Super Liam. At first when I was told that this game is probably a
mod, I did not quite believe the source because I fell for the jumping for
teleporters trick; however, after reading your post, the similarities are
simply too great to be passed up as original programming. I wonder what Sky
Tailor and Sean everest did as beta testers -- perhaps they can shed some
light here.

ivan begged me to please understand that he is going through a lot of
Although it might sound like liams's
 sounds,
 john assured me it isn't.

 Smile.

Re: [Audyssey] Dragon Warrior

2007-01-13 Thread Dark
Hi thom.

Dragon warrior is indeed the name of a turn based fighting game from
Dragonslayer gamees http://server.dragonslayergames.net/dragonslayergames/.
I assumed that the name of Ivans game was a co-incidence but now with what
you say I'm not so sure about that either.

As I said before, I was prepared to give Ivan the bennifit of the doubt
(particularly as I wasn't aware of what he'd done previously, but from
everything I've heard I don't believe there's any doubt to derive bennifit
from.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.
