Hi Michael,

yeah, your arguments are very valid. Taking into account what others
already said, I think it will really be a play station.

As for final fantasy, I really would like to play these games myself.
But I really have no idea, how a blind person could play them all alone.
I listened to some gameplay of FF13, and it didn't seem to be overly
playable to me. But if anyone here can tell me otherwise, I'd be glad.

Hi Sarah,

While I may not be entirely up on the games available, the X-Box
will be the one most likely to break down. The electronics are shoddy
inside and tend to burn out quickly, and the software to crash, as
Microsoft only wants your repeat business. If it can get you to replace
your console every year, they'll be in hog heaven.

The Playstation will last the longest of the two, has more
options come standard, and uses a normal DVD format on it's disks, where
the X-Box uses an entirely different one. My Playstation One is still
going strong, since it was purchased in the 90's, though the laser head
could probably use a good cleaning by now. The controllers last a long
time, as long as you don't throw them at the TV, otherwise they tend to
break pretty easy when jumping up and down on them.

I dunno zilch about the Nintendo stuff, so take your chances
there. Nintendo tends to offer more games for pre-teens, so if you like
Barney the Purple Dinosaur stuff, Nintendo's the way to go. Personally,
I think many of their titles are so juvenile that they're mind-numbingly
boring.

If it were me, I'd go for a Playstation 3, as it's backwards
compatible with the Playstation 2 and 1 games piling up in the used game
stores. If there's a fighter game out there, odds are that it's been
released for the Playstation.. Since fighters and RPGs are the only
real game types that interest me, and 3rd person shooters like Tomb
Raider are no longer playable, I can't offer you much info on software.

Someone here said Final Fantasy 13 was pretty accessible,
though, and Square is one of the best game designers around. Love that
Final Fantasy series of RPGs. I must have replayed Final Fantasy 7
fifteen tines, and want to play it again. When a game is so engrossing
that you actually cry when a character gets killed, and then go on a
rampage to kill their murderer, you have to admit that the game is well
above the average. I'm hoping Final Fantasy 13 is another good one.

PSX usually refers to ps1. And if you can find an older 60 gb model
ps3, odds are it'll play both.. so that'll be a good place to start.
I would recommend asking staff what models they have and whether any
of them are backwards compatible. Wouldn't mention being blind

you're pretty much out of luck aside from fighters and music games

Re: [Audyssey] I need your advice on consoles and playable games

2011-02-27 Thread Sarah Haake

Hi Clement,

thanks for your advice. *smiles*

Yes, I know that most of the console games are available for PSX and
Xbox all the same.
That's why I thought the PS3 might be the better choice, because I can
play older PS1 games on it, too. And can I play PS2 games on a PS3 too,
btw?

Online play is actually not so important for me, since I never was much
into this PVP things. And I don't think I would buy any games online
either, as long as the console is only rented for maybe two weeks or so
at a time. I think the available games on CD should be enough choice to
pass this time. *smiles*

Yeah, there are instruments with the rock band games there, too. So I
can try these, though the rent is higher for them of corse because the
instruments come with them. But that's something I'll think about.

So, I'll definately take a look at fighting games and these rockband
titles. But I'll take my time and see if any more suggestions come along
here before I make a decision. *smiles*

Re: [Audyssey] I need your advice on consoles and playable games

2011-02-27 Thread Clement Chou
It's a complex decision... I would recommend the ps3 first as it's my
preference, and to my knowledge there are more playable games for it.
I could, however, be terribly mistaken and to all xbox360 fans I
appologize if that is the case. But the ps3 has a pretty
straightforward interface, and the controller is great in your hands.
I've personally always found the xbox controller a bit too bulky...
and the buttons aren't to my style. But to each their own, and the
xbox360 does have some amazing games for it.

Having said that, the ps3 has a lot of games as well... most of them
are available on the xbox360 as well, so whatever system you choose
won't likely affect your selection of games. Both the consoles allow
you to download games that are either made by small companies or in
some cases bigger ones, as well as remakes of old classics such as
bionic commando for the nes. The xbox360 allows you to do this and
pay for the games through the computer, whereas the ps3 requires
sighted assistance. So if you want to buy things off the console
store, consider that as well before you choose. Here are a few games
I'd recommend you starting out with.

Super Street Fighter IV
Soul Calibur IV
Rock band series of games... which you need instruments for. So
unless the site you use offers those with the game, best wait for those. grins.

Blazblue
Any other fighting games you see up there.

Keep in mind that just because it's the first time you're choosing a
console doesn't mean you have to jump right to the present
generation. You can get a ps2 as well which, although older, has just
as many if not more games blind people can play. So look at your
options and do a bit of research. Personally, there's advantages to
all three, it just depends on what you're looking for. If you want to
play online but don't want to pay to do so, then the ps3 is the way
to go. If you have any more questions, feel free to let me know. Be
glad to help. smiles.

Hi list,

this is mainly for everyone who plays mainstream games on consoles and can
ggive me some advice.

I found a quite good site where I can rent consoles and games for a good
price and thought this would be an opportunaty for me to try it out before
I buy a console.

Now I'd like to get some advice from you on which console would be the
best choice and which games should I try for it?

I can get pretty much every console available on the market now. PS2 and
3, Xbox360, Nintendo Wii and DS.

So, which one should I get and which games could I try? I am pretty much
open for every type of game, as long as it is playable for a blind person
after learning the controls and menues etc.

So, please keep the ideas coming, I'm very curious now what comes out of
this. *smiles*

Many thanks for your input and best regards
