Re: [Audyssey] pong

2009-01-08 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi DJC,

Yeah, I tried to slow the response down a bit with the joystick in Pong so as
to make it the same as the keyboard. Guess I didn't quite get it.

I really like a joystick or game controller. To me it makes the games seem
more like a video game rather than a computer game. Guess just because of
using a stick and buttons rather than the keyboard.

Intreaguing.

Actually jim I've never personally seen an arcade version of Pong myself,
being born in 1982, but the wikipedia artical said there were plenty around
in the 70's.

Your probably right about the rules, to be honest I was just interested, and
these days looking something up on wikipedia is my usual response to
anything I become interested in.

Hi Dark,

I'm sorry, but I don't really know for sure how the video arcade games of Pong
played, as I mostly only played Pong on my Atari 2600. I'm pretty sure that
the games were always to 21. My Dad did have a video Pong game in his bar. It
was a bit different though in that it was in a table. That is the screen was
laid down in the table as to be horizontal. The players sat at either end of
the table and thus the perspective of the game was just like it is in my game.
I'm pretty sure that the game was also always to 21.

Re: [Audyssey] Pong

2008-09-11 Thread dark
Hi Jim.

the Wikipedia artical had a lot of history, but not much on rules of the
game, though it does mention an on screen score display.

I'm simply guessing the players got X amount of balls when they put a coin
into the machine, and the score increased depending upon how long they
lasted, but I'm not entirely certain on this.

wikipedia seems to have failed on this point, which is slightly
disappointing.

Hi Jim.

To be honest, I no almost nothing about the intricate rules of Ping
pong, or even computer pong (slightly before even my time). I was
simply thinking in terms of game experience rather than simulation, giving
the player some choice of game length when perhaps they'd rather not have a
long game?

Btw, you've got me interested now. obviously sinse your pong game doesn't
have a net, and has balls bouncing off the sides of the playing area rather
than falling off the table, it's more in line with the computer pong of the
1970's rather than table tenis. h, I wonder what the actual rules of
pong are?

Re: [Audyssey] Pong

Hi Jim.

Actually i like it in the kitchinsinc folder, it doesn't take up space or
harddrive registry, has it's own directory, and keeps it's own records.

a perfect game to spend a bit of quiet ball bashing with.

My only suggestion improvement wise is that a litle more congrats when you
win the computer, or at least some music would be nice.

You could also considder different match types rather than just first to 11
or first to 21. Apart from that though, I'm certainly pleased with the game.

Hi Thomas,

Yeah, those were the controllers ok. I never played break out or super break
out.

The recession of the early eighties put me out of work and I couldn't afford to
buy games after that for some time. And by then I could no longer see and gave
away my Atari 2600 and Atari 800 XL home computer. So my sighted video game

Hi Jim,
Yep, those are the controllers for pong alright. I remember them
clearly. They were rectangle shaped, black, had two rackets painted on
the top of them, and it had a black wheel you turned left or right to
move your racket around on the screen.
As I recall those same controllers worked really well with Breakout and
Super breakout. You could use the wheel to quickly center yourself under
the ball and bounce it back into the block wall. That was a cool game
that was more challenging than it first appeared as well.

2008-08-08 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Charles,

Yeah, I can't wait to play Pong with a Joystick. However I don't believe that
is how I played it on my Atari machines. I believe that I bought special
controllers. They were little hand held controllers with a spinner wheel and a
button on the side They were actually two of those controllers per plug, so
that four people could play Pong at the same time. Spinning the wheel up or
down would move your paddle up or down. But I think that moving your Pong
paddle left and right via joystick will make my Pong game lots of fun.

BTW A fellow pervert and I have come up with my next joystick shooter game.
Not sure if I will put it on my web site or just tell about it and then I can
Email it.

TGIF and BFN

 Jim

Guess what shape my patronis takes on when I make it shoot out of the end of my
magic wand.
