Hi Ron,
Yeah, I know. A few years back I tried playing it on my Atari 7800 and I
couldn't play worth spit after losing my vision. All I managed to do is
run off the road and straight into the road signs on the sides of the
track. G...
You can sort of do it if you go slow and try and stay on the track by
doing miner adjustments, but even if you manage to stay on the track and
finish the qualifyer at the speed you are going you can't win the race.
It is truly a game that requires vision to play, and split second timing
to take the lead on the track.

Hi Thomas,

I also very much liked Pole Position. Truthfully though I can't remember right
now if I played it on my Atari 2600 or 800 XL. I never had a steering wheel
for any of my Atari machines. So now that I do have one, Top Speed 2 is the
only driving game that I have ever played with one. I never saw the NASCAR
Thunder game. Sure did wear out the Atari joysticks playing Pole Position
though.

Hi Jim,
Well, I like racing games. I was very fond of Poll Position 1 and Poll
Position 2 for the Atari when they were popular. Compared to Nascar
Thunder they seam like a joke to us today, but man those games were fun.
I had a Colleco system with a stearing wheel and breaks and I darn near
wore the thing out racing in Poll Position 2 for Colleco.

So anyway, yes, I do plan for Mach 1 tts to have joystick support. Actually

Re: [Audyssey] Mach1 problems and bugs.

2006-10-11 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Shaun,

A problem with having a mod, mods or just allowing sound files to be changed in
Mach 1 is that the game code was written to work with the sound files that it
comes with. Other sound files may cause the game to not work correctly, crash
or work differently on different computers and as you know we had an
international competition series going for years. If the game did not run the
same on all computers it would have skewed the race times and thus the
competitions would not have been valid.

another thing is if the mods are good enough they will want to share
it, and if the dev in question is willing to post a section on mods
on their site well the game becomes endless.
Audioquake for example is a mod of quake in itself.
However the 2 popular mods, overkill and jedyquake are most played.
I don't really like the audioquake standard mod but the rest is all right.

Re: [Audyssey] Mach1 problems and bugs.

2006-10-10 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Thomas,

We had a discussion on the list about artistic copy write etc as with regards
to modifying all of the sounds of Mach 1. Not to mention that the sound file
that says "By Jim Kitchen" could have been changed. It was not, but could have
been. I just feel that my games should be played the way that I make them or
maybe not at all. You know after all of the work that I put into making them.
Now if you want to make your games so that they can be modified, that is up to
you. I know that other developers make their games so that they can not be
modified and even so that their sound files can not be copied and used for
other games.

DirectX does not have the playback frequency range that TegoSoft does and Mach
1 uses. So converting Mach 1 to DirectX would mean just about a total rewrite
which I do not plan to do.

Yeah, I was going to try and put some Raceway effects in Mach1 to

Perhaps Jim will rewrite the game someday using DirectX 8 and his Sapi

Hi Thomas,

It was way back on like version 1 of Mach 1, A gentleman changed all of my
sound files in Mach 1 using his voice for the game and distributed them via the
gamers list etc. I did not like the fact that the game was no longer the way

Some of my games allow one to change the sound files and others especially the
