Re: [Audyssey] star trek final conflict: has anybody ever won this?

2013-08-25 Thread shaun everiss

well I have never handled it easily myself.
I have left in easy mode.
firstly, hit the cardacians with defient as much as I can before its destroyed.
I then have all other ships meeting up in one place and wait for the
enemy, I may loose 1 or 2 ships sometimes my starbases sometimes 2 sometimes 1.
then I go forth with 2 ships destroy the last defenders come back,
and go with the other ship I have left.

then I win but thats about it.
the other way is simply docking with a base and killing everything
and then do the same things as before.
with the borg I chain the ships with the station then fire all ship
and station weapons then keep restocking and firing till its no more.

checking sector location in non-federation space crashes the game,
so I end up losing eventually. I'm also having some difficulty
figuring out the map, because coordinates aren't displayed as easily
as in something like trek2000.

Re: [Audyssey] star trek final conflict: has anybody ever won this?

2013-08-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi John,

Well, to be honest that isn't something I advertised in the manual.
You were suppose to discover the ability to detect cloaked ships on
your own. However, that said it is not always a surefire option. The
enemy ships have to be in fairly short proximity to the ship doing the
scan, and even then picking them up is hit or miss. Locating cloaked
ships even on Star Trek, the TV show, is fairly rare, but has been
known to happen now and then.

As for the fix to be honest I'm not sure I have it. I'll have to look
through my own archives and find it. So I'll get back to you on that
if and when I locate it. I have abandoned STFC 1.x because the game is
in rewrite and the rewrite is better in many ways.

Cheers!

Hi John,

If you are getting attacked like that it sounds to me like you
aren't
using your sensors to their full effect. Long range sensors will
help
you keep track of where any and all non-cloaked vessels are
allowing
you to anticipate how close they are, when an attack is coming,
and
you can adjust your ships' positions accordingly. Short range
sensors

have the advantage of detecting cloaked vessels in your immediate
area. It will show up as a subspace anomaly of some kind and you
can
pretty much figure out there is a Klingon or Romulan ship about
to
decloak and attack you so you can use that info to your
advantage. If
you aren't scanning each and every turn for each and every ship
no

wonder you are getting jumped.

As for how sectors work in STFC they are squares of about 100 by
100

units with the letters A through J giving you your horizontal
position, and the numbers 1 through 10 giving you your vertical
position. So if you were in sector E-5 you would be in the center
of

the starmap, or at least in the center sector.

I think what has you confused is in Trek 2000 it has a very
simple
grid of 100 by 100 units. Each sector represents one single unit
on
the map where in STFC a sector location is more like real space
travel
with a sector covering 10 parsects of space rather than a single
unit.
So at warp 9.7, maximum speed, it would take you about ten moves
to
travel one sector or 10 parsects in the game universe. Does that
make

sense?

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] star trek final conflict: has anybody ever won this?

2013-08-23 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi John,

Ouch! You definitely need some practice then. Try an offensive
strategy by getting all your ships together and attack the enemies
before they get to your starbases. If you try to play a defensive
strategy by waiting on the enemy to attack chances are it will be too
late to stop them. They will swarm you like a pack of hungry lions and
rip you to shreds. I often found the best strategy is to engage the
enemies out near the boarder areas where both sides can fight without
starbases being in any danger until one side or the other retreats
back into their home space.

Cheers!

The Impulse Drive is the ship's standard thrusters for patrolling a
certain sector of space, for maneuvering when docking, or to act as

Re: [Audyssey] star trek final conflict: has anybody ever won this?

2013-08-23 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi John,

Yes, I have beaten the game many times on all skill levels. There are
a number of strategies that can aid you in defeating the enemies. It
all depends on if you want to play an offensive or defensive strategy.

For example, one tactic I do at the beginning of the game is hunt down
and destroy as many cloaked enemy ships as possible. That means
forming a battle group of my starships and sending them into Klingon
or Romulan space to assault and destroy as many cloaked ships as
possible before beating a retreat back to my starbases. That helps
offset their element of surprise and if you are lucky some of them
will have to head back to their bases for repairs etc giving you a
chance to rearm and reequip for an assault by the enemy battle groups.

However, besides strategy you really need to know your enemies. If you
know there strengths, weaknesses, etc you can always build a better
offense or defense against them. The Cardassians, for example, are
slow and their weapons do far less damage than Klingons or Romulans so
they aren't as big a threat. Romulans have more photon torpedoes,
their disrupters are as strong as a Federation phaser, and they are
faster than a Federation ship when not cloaked. They also have a
cloaking device which gives them a massive tactical advantage in any
given battle. So obviously next to the Borg the Romulans are the most
dangerous threats in any given battle. So once you know what enemies
to aim for take them out as fast as possible and then pick off the
weaklings.

Cheers!

The game does have several crash bugs, notably the borg cube and
the use of impulse drives (what's the point of those anyway?)

You mean the one with the bor cube? I always did have a problem
with that
one. It would fire a tractor beam at me, and at point would just
lock up.

Hi Josh,
No. I don't know when it will get released, but I can say it won't be
out this year for sure. It will take me several weeks to rewrite the
game in C++ and then debug it. I really don't have the time to do that
this year with Mysteries of the Ancients and Raceway taking up most of
my time on the game development front.

Hi Josh,
At the moment there are no new public updates for Star Trek Final
Conflict. Although, there is a version 2.0 in the works for release
sometime in the future. Since I've been fairly tied up with MOTA and
my Genesis Engine STFC has been sitting on the back burner for a
while.
As far as an FPS type game I've been thinking of doing one once the
Genesis Engine is ready for actual game production. I'd really like to
do something like Elite Force I or Elite Force II. Both are pretty
cool Star Trek FPS games.

hi josh,
the game will be renamed to STDA star trek: deadly alliance. well there are
no updates cause mota's still being worked on.
the rest of the message goes to thomas, this is coming from my self and
people that heard about this
everything is good but people seem to not like the new fleet. they prefer
to stick with the current 5 ships rather than take new names that are
foreign for some people.
another idea people don't seem to be happy about is getting rid of the
defiant. and another thing you didn't thought of before was a tractor beam,
that's another feature to have.

Hello Michael,
Our official web site is
http://www.usagamesinteractive.com.
As far as the current version it is still version 1.2. We don't have a
updated version of the game to release at this time. The main reason for

this is because we lost the game's original source code some time back,
and unfortunately we didn't have the source code backed up somewhere
safe.
However, the good news is that we are slowly working on rewriting the
game from scratch. We have plans to complete the new Star Trek game,
Star Trek Deadly Alliance, some time after our current games are
released.

Hi Valiant,
Actually, I am in the process of rebuilding the entire USA Games web
site and download centers, and the Framework and DirectX upgrades are
currently not available on my web site. That said, I have decided to try
and get them back on site today, and add the proper links to the
Products &Services page so users don't have to try and hunt them down
from other web sites. Sorry, about the mess/confusion, but we are doing
our best to repair everything the hacker break in destroyed back in
february. We have not had a lot of time this year to devote to
rebuilding our entire web site from scratch. Smile.

2008-07-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
In order to run Star Trek Final Conflict on your computer here is the
basic setup procedure. If you are using Windows XP , or Windows Vista
there are a couple of Windows updates you will need to get it
working. After I get finished uploading all the PB Games for Lisa I will
upload the necessary Windows updates for you on my web site and email
the list when they are ready for download. Anyway, here is the setup
instructions for STFC in proper order.

1. Download the Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 upgrade for XP/Vista.
2. Install the .Net Framework upgrade on your Windows computer.
3. Download the March 2008 upgrade for Microsoft DirectX.
4. Install the DirectX upgrade.
5. Install Star Treck Final Conflict and any other USA Games products.

Note, you must install the software and upgrades in this exact order or
the programs will crash. Certain dependancies won't properly get
installed or registered with Windows if they are not done this way.
Cheers.

Re: [Audyssey] star trek final conflict

2007-05-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Josh,
Well, in order to include the Prometheus into STFC I would either have
to make STFC 2 take place during the Dominion war or sometime afterward.
The problem with making the game take place afterward is we know very
little about Federation relations after the Dominion war. We know Odo
returns to the Dominion to sort of take a leadership roll with the
Dominion creating some sort of peace with the Federation. The
Cardassians are practically headless and some books I have read
afterward state the cardassians enter a period of civil wars before a
leadership once again appears on Cardassia. The Romulan senate is wiped
out by the Remans, and we know nothing about their future government,
and relationship with the Federation.
As for the klingons we know they join forces with the Federation during
the Dominion war, and Federation ties seam to be good from that point on.
As for during the Dominion war that is equally hard to make a game on
unless we go by very generic info. No Dominion ships have been announced
by name and are generically referred to as a Jem'hadar fighter, Breen
warship, Cardassian Cruiser, etc.
I've actually done research on the net for good info about Breen and
Jem'hadar technology and the info is quite hard to find. What I find is
not cannon info and speculation based on the author's opinions. That
makes it hard to build a game on.
So to me I think the best way to do the game and make it really be good
fan fiction is insert the game during TNG season 5/6. We know around
that time the Klingons were having a civil war with the house of Duras
seen in "Redemption, and the Romulans were aiding the House of Duras's
efforts. Even though the Federation and klingons were victorious the
House of Duras and the Romulans were still around and could technically
make a second attempt if an author wanted to go that route.
We know in season 5 or 6 the Borg made an appearance in "I Borg." True
the show centered around a surviver from a crashed Borg ship, but that
helps us know the Borg were still active in the Alpha quadrant. Though,
I'm not sure the extent of damage Hue did when he was introduced to the
Borg hive mind. That could be the reason we didn't see another Borg cube
until First Contact, but then again perhaps a Borg ship might have been
sent to find out why their fellow Borg stopped communicating.
Finally, the Cardassians began showing up on TNG around season 6 as well
as DS9 and making noise.
Bottom line I think that time period is the clearest indicator when and
where to make the game. There are hostile Cardassians, Romulans, and
Klingons in the tv shows. The technologies of that time period are well
documented. It would be easy to gather info on how to build STFC 2, and
make it both technically and historically accurate to a degree.
Since the Enterprise D will be the main ship of STFC 2 thee main
deflector will be returning to the game. I'm also going to include
several ships from TNG.

Re: [Audyssey] star trek final conflict install note

2007-01-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hello kerry,
The reason STFC is reporting that error is that one of the managed
libraries ti depends on is missing. The correct installation order for
STFC shoud be as follows. Note, the apps must be installed in this order
or the application will fail.

1. The .NET Framework 2.0 must be installed if it does not already exist.
2. Go to
http://www.usagames.us/requirements.html
and download the current dxwebsetup.exe utility.
3. Run and install dxwebsetup which will update your version of DirectX
to December 2006. (Note, you must have the .NET Framework previously
installed in order to install the DirectX managed components for .NET
enabled applications.)
4. Install STFC.

HTH.

Re: [Audyssey] star trek final conflict install note

2007-01-24 Thread Bryan Peterson
You need to install the DirecX files. Even if you run the file from the USA
Games page, it doesn't actually install the components, even though it does
ask you to specify a folder to extract them to. Once they've been extracted,
you need to then go to the folder you extracted the files to and run the
Dxsetup executable. That should clear the problem right up.

Re: [Audyssey] star trek final conflict strategy

2007-01-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Josh,
As you probably noticed about STFC 1.0 is that at least two ships will
remain in there sector of space at any given time. Those ships can not
be drawn away from there asigned patrol routes unless you physically
enter there starsystems with the intent of destroying them.
In that case they will intercept you and try and whipe out whatever you
sent there way. I say try as I typically send enough force to overwelm
the home defences, and whipe out the ships first, and then pick off the
bases at will.
