[Gimp-user] png and layers

2006-06-29 Thread Michael_Hoeller

Hello all,

I like to save layer information of
a manually created logo. Unfortunately GIMP tells me that it can not save
the layers as png file.
Is png not capable to save this infromation
or do I some thing wrong? Anyway which format can I use to save the layer
information?

Thanks a lot
Michael

PNG format does not support multiple layers. You should use xcf for this.

[Gimp-user] how to rotate ?

2006-06-29 Thread Michael_Hoeller

Hello,

I have a little rectangle which I like
to rotate / animate. The rotation should give a kind of 3D impression -
the backward going part is shrinking and the forward comming is growing
relative to the middle axis which goes noth / south.
I checked the GIMP help and asked google
but I did not find a way to do this under linux with GIMP, just some expensive
MS Windows solutions. Any hint how to do this are very wellcome. :-)

I hope this is not too bad expained,
my English leaves room for improvement - which I am working on.

Thanks a lot
Michael

I used to do this all the time with

Filter - Map Object

Select box, you can rotate it at will, you'll need a bunch of layers (one
for each frame), and you are mapping your image to the 3d object, so make
sure it is something interesting (I just tested again with a simple pure red
image, looked great as it span.

Hello Jeff,

thanks a lot - I am not sure if I got all. Will try
soon. I have a German GIMP 2.2
and I am not sure what mad Object in the filter Menu
can be no seem me right..
the filter menu is spilt in 5 parts, which of these
is it?
And will this be selfe explaining : you'll need
a bunch of layers (one for each frame), and you are
mapping your image to the 3d object when I come
to the right place? I am not sure if i understand, at
this point in time, what you mean - that mighht change
when I find the correct menu.

THanks again

I thought it was droping black because that was the foreground color

Perhaps it's strange, but not really surprising. It seems that Mac users
aren't any better than users of the Windows operating system when it
comes to making their own hands dirty and actually debugging a problem
and contributing a fix for it. There have been only very sporadic
contributions from Mac OS X users so far.

It sounds like you're looking at Drop Shadow and Bevel, not Drop
Shadow. Those are two completely different plug-ins. Drop Shadow
(written in script-fu) has a color button, Drop Shadow and Bevel
(written in python) does not.

this problem is well known and documented. I talked to mitch about
this issue in lyon already. There is a bug filed in the gnome
bugzilla and a description how to work around this issue in the gimp-
app forum at sourceforge. My most recent view is that mitch wanted to
incorporate some special logging into the more recent 2.3.x versions
to hunt this down.

I'd be very happy to give any help I can to solve this, but sorry -
debugging is nothing that I can handle for [EMAIL PROTECTED] X - But I could
for example meet with you and/or mitch, bring my MacBook and give you
a chance to do it together...
