It is the same thing or better that is over on Windows. Epson supplies it for free and I use it for most of my scanning with my Perfection 1650 Photo. It is very nice. Here is the url if you are interested, there may even be a new version out now. http://www.epkowa.co.jp/english/index_e.html I just checked the site though and it is down right now due to compliance with the GPL. I am sure they will have it going again soon, but in the meantime, if anyone wants or needs the program, I have the last version they distributed and would be happy to upload to you. Patrick Hello. I have one too, and have had some problems with it. I am using it on a Suse 8.0 Pro, and my version of Iscan is iscan-1.4.0-2.i386.rpm. When I am using it from the acquire/scanning(iscan) menu in the Gimp, every things seem to work, but all I get is a blank=empty image. When I am using it directly it runs just great. I have been trying with the Xsane (version of Suse 8.0) but the 2450 is not in there, so I tryed with another - as far as I remember the 1690 - and it resulted in a 'dead' TPU. Epson is luckily very generous, so a got a new one instead. No one will say/admit that a 'wrong' driver can harm the light unit. [Gimp-user] Clone tool and others.
Hello I have been upgrading my Linux to a Suse 8.2, and the Gimp version they are delivering is 4.2. Now my clone toole do not work any more. I have then downloaded the newest 4.2.5 compiled it - and it tells me, that the perl-PDL is not working, but it is not used any more so remove it??? When I try to install the perl-PDL from my Suse dist. I get a lot of dependencies missings, and they are not delivered with the dist. Where do I wrong/what is missing in my system to make the tool work - I really miss it! If you have 8.2 Pro, install all your Gnome2 files along with all the -devel files and the compile should go well. The Gimp supplied on the SuSE discs is 1.2.3, not 4.2 as you mentioned. I believe that might be the version of gimp printers, don't remember now. Patrick Yes - sorry for having them mixed up. The version numbers are 1.2.5. And I have learned some new about using the Gimp - layers. First I found out, that the tools worked on some of my older pictures, so I started to investigate where the difference was. I have not come so far in my work with the Gimp, that I have been using the layers, so why the pictures in question were placed as 'background' I don't know - but they were. After having flatened the pictures, everything works. Sorry for the false alarm - and I guess I must be studying the layers. Re: Was: [Gimp-user] Still problems with compiling GIMP 2.0 on ML9.2 - now Suse9.0
Hello However, if you look through the output of the ./configure script, you will find several WARNING: labels where non-essential things are missing. But some of these non-essential things are actually quite essential to you, like the modules to let you print, use .tiff formats etc. Here's the modules that I had missing in Mandrake 9.2: libexif librsvg libgimpprint 4.2.6 (4.2.5 is installed as standard in Mandrake 9.2, and GIMP 2.0 predicts some problems with certain locales and printing with this version. Better to upgrade now rather than have other problems later I'd say) libwmf lcms gtkhtml With all these, do what I said earlier. Search for them in the package installer and then install any packages that contain the search term and 'devel' in the title. I am not using Mandrake, but Suse 9.0, and have a strange problem. I have been folowing yours advice, so when i run ./configure --enable-mp, make and make install, I apperently don't get any errors, but when I then run gimp-2.0 it says: Error reading modules file ** (gimp-2.0:4753): WARNING **: No builtin or dynamically loaded modules were found. Pango will not work correctly. This probably means there was an error in the creation of: '/usr/local/etc/pango/pango.modules' You may be able to recreate this file by running pango-querymodules. and the first screen appears, but only Wilbur and two boxes are visible! Then running: pango-querymodules I get a lot like: # Pango Modules file # Automatically generated file, do not edit # # ModulesPath = /usr/local/lib/pango/1.2.0/modules # /usr/local/lib/pango/1.2.0/modules/pango-arabic-x.so ArabicScriptEngineX PangoEngineShape PangoRenderX 1547-1747:* /usr/local/lib/pango/1.2.0/modules/pango-arabic-ft2.so ArabicScriptEngineFt2 PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFT2 1548-1785:* /usr/local/lib/pango/1.2.0/modules/pango-basic-x.so BasicScriptEngineX PangoEngineShape PangoRenderX 0-687:* 688-767: 896-1423:* 1425-1524: 1548-1785: 3585-3675: 4256-4351:* 4608-5887:* 7680-8191:* 8192-13311:* 13312-40869:* 40960-42182:* 44032-55203: 57344-63470:* 63744-64045:* 65072-65131:* 65280-65518:* /usr/local/lib/pango/1.2.0/modules/pango-basic-ft2.so BasicScriptEngineFT2 PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFT2 0-687:* 688-767: 896-1423:* 1425-1524: 1548-1785: 3585-3675: 7680-8191:* 8192-40959:* 44032-55203:kr 63744-64011:kr 65280-65507:* 0-65535: /usr/local/lib/pango/1.2.0/modules/pango-hangul-x.so HangulScriptEngineX PangoEngineShape PangoRenderX 4352-4607:* 44032-55203:* /usr/local/lib/pango/1.2.0/modules/pango-myanmar-x.so MyanmarScriptEngineX PangoEngineShape PangoRenderX 4096-4223:* /usr/local/lib/pango/1.2.0/modules/pango-gurmukhi-x.so GurmukhiScriptEngineX PangoEngineShape PangoRenderX 2560-2687:* /usr/local/lib/pango/1.2.0/modules/pango-bengali-x.so BengaliScriptEngineX PangoEngineShape PangoRenderX 2432-2559:* /usr/local/lib/pango/1.2.0/modules/pango-devanagari-x.so DevanagariScriptEngineX PangoEngineShape PangoRenderX 2304-2431:* 8205-8205:* Is there a problem with the 'translation into Danish' ? -- mvh Mogens Jæger ___ Gimp-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

Re: [Gimp-user] Problem with photo negative
Hi - Sorry, but i have a really newbie question. I run a GIMP 2.2.8 on a Mandriva 2006 box. And i just aquired a old flatbed scanner, able to scan 24x36 negatives - of wich i have several thousands When i scan a negative, it of course comes out, well, negative. I can invert the pic with Layer/Colour/invert, but due to the colour mask in the negative, the result has a severe blue taint, and strongly reduced contrast. Can i somehow give the image a 'preset' filter or colour mask, to counterbalance the orange filter? Or is there any other 'fix' to this problem? Any help to a quivering n00b will be deeply appreciated... Convert it in the scanner program - way best Have fun - Kim 'The_Pirate' Denmark mvh Mogens Jæger ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
Re: [Gimp-user] managing monitor profile
doug skrev: Some of your correspondence hasn't appeared on the gimp-user list - I also have a Spyder2 colorimeter but haven't had it working under Linux. Can you give some more details and/or links? Sorry - yes I have a bad habit just hitting the Reply button, and not checking who I am writing to. First of all, you need to have the Argyll installed: http://www.argyllcms.com/ If it's not a part of your distribution, you can follow the link given, on what to do after download of the program. Then you can follow the instructions given in On Line Documentation. Scroll down and click the 'Spyder 2' link. Here you click the 'spyd2en' link. The program spyd2en is part of the Agryll installation. Note that the installCD from DataColor must be accessible. On one of the former pages, there is a link to some tutorials, describing typical usage: http://www.argyllcms.com/doc/Scenarios.html That should do it - I now have a working ICC profile, that I can load into GIMP, but how to make it work 'all over' on the desktop, is still to come. I have it installed on my desktop, using 2 monitors, and regarding the page: http://www.argyllcms.com/doc/Installing_Linux.html it should be no problem, just I have not yet figured out how. I am running a Suse 10.3 with GIMP 2.4.6 where I can install the ICC-profile to be used on the specific screen within GIMP, but not generally. I have additional an small laptop with a Suse 11.0 on. It comes with a GIMP 2.6.1, and here I can load the profile generally, so I can set the GIMP to show colors with printer ICC-profile simulation. I my opinion, that should give the best result for printing purpose - screen calibrated to give correct(ed) colors, and 2' with simulation to fit my printers 'behavior'. If I'm wrong - please tell me. My desktop is not yet a Suse 11.0, because it's a 64 bit CPU, and I will not accept having to run all in 32 bit, just so I can reach my bank (java-problems) - I have it working in Suse 10.3, but all the dependencies problems in the 11.0 makes me wait. I guess I will have to install a 32 bit on the laptop, and use that for banking-needs. Not good - but acceptable.
