OK I am bouncing from one suggestion to the next and making some headway but not
enough as of yet for this counter1.jsp to work. I have gotten rid of the errors just
can't get the page to work.
I believe I need a correct doctype in the jsp. The one I have found is this:

analysis, large XLS data sheets/reports is fairly common esp. in many
