Quick tips for aspiring entrepreneurs Merril Diniz August 21, 2006 On a recent trip to Goa, I decided to stop spending and start investing for a change. My father quickly made an appointment with his financial consultant to help me chalk out a good tax saving strategy before I changed my mind. When I strolled into the consultant's office, I was surprised to meet two young guns instead of a middle-aged veteran. Suraj Betkikar, 27, and Arjun Rebelo, 25, manage Milestone Financial Consultants in Margao, a small town in south Goa. Before setting up shop in January 2005, Suraj worked with ING Vysya Bank in Goa, while Arjun was with ING Vysya Mutual Fund in Mumbai. Both completed their MBAs in marketing and finance from the Goa Institute of Management in 2003. The former classmates proved to be an enthusiastic duo, suggesting several combinations before we finally zeroed in on what to do with my money. As neither Suraj nor Arjun come from business backgrounds, I wondered what prompted the two to swap a regular paycheck and job security for the hassle of launching their own enterprise. Choosing the right business My first question to them was, why? Their reply: We make the rules, we decide when to break them. I asked them to elaborate. During our MBAs and working days, we regularly thrashed out business ideas, they said. We were both connected to the investment sector and realised the time was right to set up a consultancy. With the economy growing, the broking and investment services industry was just beginning to boom. We identified Goa, which didn't have too many organised and professional investment service organisations. Most people were uneducated about financial products; the concept of financial planning was alien to them. Betkikar and Rebelo wanted to offer a services approach instead of a product-based one; i.e. they planned to offer financial planning and advisory services -- to become a one-stop shop for all investment needs of the average middle-class person. They also have a private limited company called Money Factor Financial Services, a franchisee for India Infoline Securities, through which they provide broking services. Choosing the right partner The duo believe that the main reason for getting into a partnership, as opposed to setting out on your own, is to make doing business easier. It is lucrative to join hands with the right person, provided you and your partner share a common goal. They say you must also be equally confident of your ability to deliver. Ideally, your expertise must lie in different areas so you balance out your partner's weak points. For instance, Arjun handles 70 per cent of the marketing and PR because he is good with his communication skills. Suraj manages 70 per cent of operations -- back office management, the company's risk management, accounts, paperwork, etc. However, Suraj also has his own client base. Both chip in when the other is absent. They add that you should get along as friends, and that communication on every level with your partner is a must. Arjun and Suraj communicate on a daily basis, so both are completely in the loop about any developments. Does it get competitive between the two? I ask, out of curiosity. Not at all, says Arjun with conviction, adding on a lighter note: Someone told me that, as long as the moolah keeps rolling, there's nothing to fear. Which brings us to that all-important word: M-O-N-E-Y. Money matters Every aspiring entrepreneur wants to know: What was the initial investment? How did you get funding? Arjun says the initial investment was Rs 25 lakh (including the cost of office space). They coughed up the amount by digging into personal savings and borrowing from their respective families and relatives. This way, we didn't have to provide collateral for a bank loan and we had the flexibility, in terms of time, when it came to paying back the money. This reduces costs and pressure considerably. We could have gone to a bank but, since our capital requirements were not too much, we decided to keep that option for expansion at a later date. Most of this money went into infrastructure, i.e. office space and equipment. A lot went into regulatory requirements (deposit with Indiainfoline, licenses, etc) and working capital (salaries, bills, office maintainence, etc.). Initially, you may have to wear the hat of a peon, cleaner, office boy and secretary to keep costs low. Secondly, you

[Goanet] Floriano's Sunday Ramblings-18 [REVOLUTIONS BUILDUP IN PEOPLE'S HEARTS]

I have read about revolutions that took shape because rulers were so insensitive to the plight of the common people that they chose to tell them to 'eat cake if there was no bread'. Voila! The French Revolution. I have read about revolutions that took shape because people wanted more bread than they already had and landed up having no bread at all. Behold! The Marxist-Leninist Revolution of the USSR. Then there have been revolutions a plenty, like in Cuba, Haiti, Timor, etc. where people remained satisfied with what they had, even if it was less than what they should have and refused to sell out for doles. But then revolutions are branded with bloodshed. We have seen the people of Vietnam fighting a bloody war with the U.S of A. after they fought the French in a prolonged war. We have seen Afghanistan refusing to be tamed in spite of super powers' intervention. We have seen the people of Iraq still continuing with the revolution that saw the tyrant Sadam Hussein down and out and now wanting the U.S of A which helped with the revolution, out of Iraq. And we have seen a revolution right at home when Goans actually begged for and borrowed help from outside to see the Portuguese out from Goa. But this was a funny type of a revolution. Actually Goans (mostly Goa's so called Freedom Fighters) who wanted the Portuguese out, were not revolutionary at all, in that, they just wanted the Portuguese out and instead, wanted to be chained into slavery by their own hypocrite masters, to be spat upon, to be derided, to be hauled to the police stations in their jocks in the middle of the night, to be told what to ask for and what not to, because they went as BEGGARS with BEGGING BOWLS to ask for FREEDOM only so that they could get their PENSIONS and their TAMRAPATRAS. And there was the other breed called 'the PATRAKARS' who moulded public opinions in favour of these hypocritical masters who more than helped them to loot and plunder Goa and which is happening even to this day. This breed do not want revolutions. These impinges on their style to make merry by putting dust in the eyes of the people. Coming back to having said that I believe in REVOLUTIONS, it is because the revolutionary blood is running thick in my veins and does not allow me to soundly sleep over a pillow of injustices. I was too young to have been involved in Goa's freedom struggle. But if I was old enough, these so called freedom fighters would have had a plateful on their hands instead of begging bowls, these gutless rats that they are and have been. At this juncture, I remember the argument that I had with my late Dad, just so to make known what it is that ticks me. It was about him, my dad, scolding me for wasting my time playing with books. What he was actually saying was If I had to take up the job after my SSC, I would have earned in thousands a perfect parental pre-occupation, since his good friend had told him that he could fix me in the STATE BANK OF INDIA, the erstwhile BANCO ULTRAMARINO immediately after my SSC. But, adamant as I was, I chose to go to college, instead, since I wanted to be a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force, having actually witnessed the aerial action on December 18th 1961 and liking it, to see the enemies destroyed from above. And at that time, I had told my dad that he would see me earning in thousands ' in good time'. It is immaterial that my plans of becoming a fighter pilot did not succeed, and instead of getting into the cockpit of the fastest flying machine, I eventually landed on the slowest moving thing called the 'SHIP' to make my life. No regrets though. Sad that my father never lived to see me join the ship as an officer. He had his doubts too, since he had spent his lifetime on board the ships and had seen officers in his time and in his capacity as a domestic. If he had lived for a few extra years, he would not only see one, but three out of his 4 sons as Merchant Navy Officers. As they say, things do take their own time to happen, just like in revolutions.. They take their own time to materialize out of nowhere, just like the ever devastating hurricanes and cyclones. Revolutionary thoughts have their pluses and minuses too. Minuses, because they take you off the topic and wandering in the past. Nevertheless, I have preferred to write about 'revolutions' today, because one Dr. Jose Colaco

SanTosh, It must take some scientific mind to find my comments below revealing of an ideology. Any outside observer would simply attempt to verify the facts, if they were remotely interested in determining whether you're reliable at providing accurate quotes. Good standing is determined by others, so I can't tell you how or where I stand in my reputation as a Christian. I have condensed quotes for brevity, but have never been accused of distorting the intent of the original poster. Lastly, I don't consider myself more moral than you. [Goanet] No Advocate Should Encourage This Crime

Exaltation Noronha my uncle-by-marriage (he the husband of my aunt Visitation of the famous sorpotel and sanna recipes), was all praise for Advocate Jos. Peter D'Souza. You see, JPD's impassioned refutation of the growing move to persuade lawyers in Goa not to represent committers of serious and dastardly crimes against society, struck a strong chord in my uncle's worried bosom. I must admit Uncle Exaltation has a vested interest in preventing Goan criminal lawyers from picking and choosing their cases. The story would take far too long to tell, but told it must. Then and only then, says my uncle, will the people of Goa be rid of parasitic legal thinking in the body politic (or is correct English the body judiciary?). It all started with one village lad getting the bright idea that the wedding of a panch in Assagao must on no account have aunt Visitation catering her sorpotel and sannas. Since frothing and foaming at the mouth was not viewed happily by this lad and since aunt Visitation was too powerful a figure in local circles not to be invited to cater at all, it was decided to ask her to make what they thought would be a harmless cold fish platter. Now anyone worth their salt who has attended a Goan Catholic wedding of any note in the Salcette taluka will know that the cold fish dish represents the highlight of the wedding banquet. People throughout Salcette and specially those native to Margao are known to elbow aside (literally) less hardy people in their mad rush to the table, mainly to help themselves to a generous portion of the cold fish. This despite the fact that every guest at every wedding where the said cold fish dish is served, inevitably has the runs during the entire morning following the wedding. If the reasons for this unhappy circumstance of the fish followed by runs is analysed, it will be discovered that (a) plastic gloves or any gloves at all are never considered when mincing and mixing the fish - apna haath jugganath, as they say - (b) since the fish is minced and then mixed with mayonnaise thus assuring it's taste, the most uncertain quality of fish is used and c) the cooks doing the honors with the fish are strangers to the science of refrigeration as a defence against the heat in Goa. Now, since the wedding was arranged in Assagao, the people there knew not a whit of the stories of the cold fish and the runs that are so well known by every Salcette family. And since aunt Visitation criminally underpaid the cooks she brought from Salcette to do the work, plus trustingly gave the money to buy the fish to uncle Exaltation who was of the opinion that good fish for the wedding should not compete with good liquor for his insides, added to the fact that electricity in Assagao can barely run the lights let alone the cooling, the banquet was bound to be a disaster. It would have been just another Salcette wedding albeit taking place in Bardez, had it not been for the bridegroom the panch being a man well known in every criminal court this side of the Mandovi. That accounted for his need to invite every well known criminal lawyer in his district. And the fact that all these gentlemen having partaken of this fish could not attend court for several days. Could you blame them for refusing that day on, to represent the panch in any of his cases? And further can you blame the panch for not only refusing to pay aunt Visitation and uncle Exaltation for their troubles but also to take them to court for one of the most heinous crimes committed in Bardez? Thus explains uncle's sudden love for democratic processes and enduring affection for Advocate Jos. Peter D'Souza or rather for his principled stand that every man (and woman) accused should be entitled to representation, no matter the crime. ___ Goanet mailing list Goanet@lists.goanet.org http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org

You have come to the right place I told them, here is Gilbert's wisdom sheet to protect you from sin and eternal damnation. They took the paper and since this is a family friendly forum I cannot disclose how they used it for protection. I was one of the homosexuals that George gave Gilbert's sheet to, and I will tell you what I did with that piece of paper. I folded it neatly and took it to a Hindu priest in the nearby temple of Kamadeva, the God of Love and Sex. I wanted a second opinion from a religious expert on Gilbert's morality of benign neglect, to find out if it was benign or malignant. I also wanted to know whether this highly questionable rock solid moral code was based on genuine rock solid facts or on the arbitrary flimsy opinion of Gilbert's relatives and fellow campers. Bhotmaam took the paper and promptly scribbled something on the back of it in Romi Sanskrit. Then without saying a word he handed it to me. I have just translated what he has written with my handy-dandy Practical Sanskrit-English Dictionary of Vaman Shivram Apte. This is what the Bhotmaam had written: Ask Shri Gilbert these questions, which signify the highest form of morality known to man. And be sure to elicit from him a yes or no answer for each question. If he answers no to these questions, then this man is truly a moral man, and I would offer him Kamadeva's choicest blessings. If he answers yes then his morality is relative morality, and we might as well call his moral code a rock-and-roll moral code. Here are my questions: 1. Have you visited a foreign country? 2. Do you eat beef and pork? 3. Do you drink alcoholic beverages? 4. Do you listen to rock-and-roll music? 5. Have you married outside your caste or religion? 6. Have you killed a lizard? I hope Gilbert answers these questions. Cheers, Santosh ___ Goanet mailing list Goanet@lists.goanet.org http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org

While we honor Goa and Goans with World Goa Day, could we find a way to honor our Goan Mums and Dads in some collective way also? They will always remain in our individual hearts but we must bring our joy, gratitude and celebration out in the open to tell them, wherevere they are that: 1. We appreciate their hard work and monetary sacrifices to make us what we are. 2. We thank them for understanding that in the future of their children, education would play an important part. 3. We see how large problems in their marriages they would make small so that we would have two parents. 4. We benefit from the values of faith and morals, humility and helpfulness they demonstrated to us by example. 5. We forgive for the many physical punishments they made us endure not in anger, but in the belief that it would make us better. 6 We remember what it is to be a Goan because they were Goans before they were anything else. and simply because 7. They mostly lived more for us than for themselves. I don't care how we do it, nor who is credited for suggesting it. To wit, the unprovoked attacks on Christian and other religious beliefs of many Goanet members by a small coterie of aggressive atheists and agnostics and moral relativists determined to ridicule and denigrate organized religion sometimes using scurrilous methods in order to do so. We have seen this in the recent attempt to show that the moral codes of organized morally based groups are fake, the shrill attempts to prove that Hitler was a staunch Catholic in good standing by a member who claims to be a Catholic but is on record as being unable to even recognize the attacks on religion or the rock solid Catholic moral codes, the attempts to prove that the Vatican was complicit in Nazi atrocities, and the slyly worded flame baits using alleged provocations that had nothing to do with what anyone on Goanet had opined or any discussion that was taking place on Goanet. Then we see curious and comical attempts to deflect attention towards alleged rule violations by other members and objections to the moderators ...trying to be fair to everybody. We all know that Santosh is being disingenious when he says without qualification, If my views and posts violate the rules, please kick me out We all know that he does not habitually violate the rules. Neither do other members habitually violate the rules. However, my impression is that the moderators have been more than generous in interpreting Santosh's posts to the chagrin of other members. Therefore, Santosh is correct that the moderators need to be more consistent and firm in applying the rules equally TO ALL MEMBERS. I also think they should explain a rejection in more detail which gives a member the opportunity to edit their post and re-submit it. I don't think anyone seriously wants Santosh or anyone else kicked off an open public forum like Goanet. Even his leadership role in denigrating religion is part of free speech as far as I'm concerned, as long as others are allowed to respond. I think it would suffice if any open flame baits, no matter whom they come from, especially ones that are allegedly provoked by events outside the opinions and discussions on Goanet, are more closely scrutinized. ___ Goanet mailing list Goanet@lists.goanet.org http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org

When someone on Goanet says they were provoked to write a flame bait it means provoked by someone on Goanet or by a discussion taking place on Goanet. In his first example below, Santosh did not reference anything anyone had said, as he now claims retroactively. Thus it was, by definition, a pure, unadulterated and gratuitous flame bait. With reference to Santosh's second example, George Pinto had posted WITHOUT COMMENT a link to an article about a restaurant in Mumbai named after Hitler. Santosh's subsequent post, apparently endorsing the hideous mentality that naming a restaurant after Hitler represented, then gratuitously INITIATED a snide, unprovoked and deliberately untruthful personal attack ridiculing President Bush, without any logical connection to anything in the article. I previously showed how Santosh had written pure flame baits about morally based organizations having fake morality by deliberately using false statistical methods - using exceptions to make false allegations. This was made even more egregious because Santosh is professionally knowledgeable about the use of statistical evidence in arriving at a conclusion. Thus, his claim that he never posts unprovoked flame baits is false. Santosh has clearly INITIATED the flame baits that are referred to below, unprovoked by anyone on Goanet and without any connection to any discussion taking place on Goanet at the time. --- Santosh Helekar [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: --- Mario Goveia [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: In direct contradiction to the assertion above, the following are two unprovoked and very recent flame baits from Santosh. Incidentally, Mr. Noronha, your posts of late show a bit of arrogance of You're probably right. May I point out though, when I did no/little-opinion-injected reporting for years together, I was accused of being a fence sitter. Now, you have my views out there, someone discovers they don't like it, and dismisses it with labels. Please argue against views, not persons. I am not saying polytheism is superior to monotheism, or that monotheism is superior to polytheism. They're just different. But let's face the facts squarely and admit that if you believe in the one true God ideal, it could make you somewhat to pretty intolerant to the religious beliefs of others. If I could be proven wrong on this one, it's going to be great: not from the point of my own ego, but in the interest of global understanding. --FN PS: BTW, I was just speaking on a very specific point. In no way am I suggesting that intolerance and bigotry comes from one religion alone. It exists in different forms. Goans settled outside of Goa do not care about Goa. I don't want to undermine the work done by such organisations as Goa Sudharop or the amounts repatriated by Gulf Goans or the interest shown by determined expatriate Goans, but apart from a minuscule minority, the vast majority of expatriate Goans and their children care a whit about Goa. I personally know of friends and family, people who benefited from a subsidised Goan education, who've gone on to become doctors and entrepreneurs in foreign countries, who have nothing but a passing interest in Goa. How else can you explain the lack of expatriate funded hospitals or schools or scholarships or even a heartfelt support of our writers or artists? Oprah Winfry who is no more African than J F Kennedy was Irish, has always maintained a bond with Africa. A bond that recently made possible a 40 million dollar school, in South Africa. Perhaps we've trained our ears not to listen to the wind-flute that calls our name from our native land. Perhaps we've become so engrossed in paying our second mortgages and driving our third car out of the 2 floor garage. Whatever it is, we've failed miserably and each succeeding generation distances itself even more. Please don't wait for the diaspora to help you. Goa rests in your own hands. We will have our functions where sorpatel is eaten with gusto and matters of Goa debated with indignation but that is as far it will go. A two week holiday and trinkets bought at Arjuna, completes this voyage of self-discovery on part of second-generation expat children. Goa belongs to you, Goans in Goa. Hence I did not read any goanet mail over the holiday. Yet the six hour drive gave me time to think about the offensive wording of Hitler was a Catholic Fascist in company with other Catholic Fascists of Europe. For this to come from Cornel, may suggest that he has unfamiliarity with English, at least American-English. Or his British environment makes him desensitized to this phraseology. Recently, Andrew Young the former US ambassador to the UN, referred to Jewish shopkeepers, Arab shopkeepers and Korean shopkeepers overpricing their products, in the USA. He had to apologize to them and (was forced to) resign from his seat on the Walmart Board losing a likely salary in excess of $100,000:00. I hope no Goan makes this misjudgment. If Cornel was a professor of English at one of the American schools or colleges, his remarks would be cause for his dismissal from the staff, due to demagoguery of the religion. To those who may not appreciate the faux pas of Cornel's phraseology, it is the equivalent of terming the prisoners in Goa's jails as Catholic murderer or Hindu robber, Muslim rapist etc. Either our ignorance or our tolerance / desensitized to nuances, permit a lot of demagoguery on Goanet. And I wish the moderators did something about it, to raise the standard of discourse. From the responses I have received, many Catholic Goans are upset at those who talk about the outdated caste system in the present. The last discussion we had on the subject, the overwhelming consensus was that, caste was a thing of the past. Now, one does not even know their colleagues' or associates' caste. Goans who have written to me have suggested that those who in the unlikely circumstances, still carry scars of their caste, had a narrow upbringing. Hence we, as the large community of Goans today, should no longer tolerate this diversionary, abusive and circumstantial attack on Goan Catholics and the Church. I however do compliment Cornel for feeling offended by my terming his writings as anti-Catholic. In fact, I am proud of him for wanting to be proud of his Catholic credentials. I hope he and he rest of us in moving forward pay closer attention of our writings. Fred rightly points out, this thread migrated off its origin. Yet, one of the main persons who started the dialogue used the outrageous terminology. This tells us that the thread was not started with the high intentions that Fred suggest. Kind Regards, GL --- Frederick Noronha wrote: In sum, the attempt to reduce this to a Was Hitler a Catholic debate is a way of subverting the issue. FN Cornel wrote on Hitler: I am in absolute agreement with Aristo that Hitler was a Catholic Fascist and in good company with other WW2 Catholic Fascists like Franco (helped greatly by Hitler in the Spanish Civil War), and Mussolini. ___ Goanet mailing list Goanet@lists.goanet.org http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org

Sometimes, it is taken as an affront on someone's deeply held beliefs. Sometimes, it is regarded as absurd and ridiculed. When I was more Catholic, I would bring to mind the words of Charlotte Bronte's Mr Rochester, I know my God approves of what I do, for the world's opinion, I care not. Now that I am more secular, I remember Desmond Tutu's words in a documentary about Thomas Mann, there is no black and white in life. One must believe by the skin of one's teeth that what they are doing is right and then do it. That is how I generally operate, by the skin of my teeth and to damnation with my detractors. I enjoy your posts on religion. To me they are just your personal hypotheses and not a reflection and assault on anyone's faith. If, we as Christians in our Quixotian desire to defend our religion, see you as a Christian basher, we really are tilting at windmills. If you want my opinion, write what you have to. Don't bother defending your views. Let the chips fall where they may. For every one person, you offend, there will be two that you will educate and perhaps convince to your point of view. We are all adult enough to discern for ourselves exactly what we want to believe. All this defending the faith by self-appointed crusaders, is self-serving aggrandisment at best. Dear Selma, You must know and that without any ambiguity that Bardez is a state of mind and has always been about the mind. While Shastikars and Shastikarns have always followed the beaten path, we from Bardez have innovated, challenged, philosophized and created. For example when I a young lad was always forced to wear formal dress to the village function in the sweltering Bombay heat (my Mum was a Shastikarn after all), I stoutly refused and wore a casual shirt instead. Took after my Dad the Bardezkar who was a practical gentleman if nothing else. As for the question of the delectable fish dish, we Bardezkars had rejected it as being unsuitable for our fine palates. We did not wish to smell in front of our charming ladies, especially when dancing with them. Instead, we spent our energies on creating fine desserts and mouthwatering sweets that matched our suave exteriors. Anyone can stuff their mouths with fish, but it takes time and grace to lift a little sweet from a tray, whisk it through the air in an arc and slowly lower it to melt on the tip of your tongue. Now perhaps you will understand why my aunt Visitation who was a true Bardezkarn had to hire cooks from Salcette to make that fish entree. PS. In case Shastikars on Goanet take offence to my haughty condescending attitude towards them, I will defer as an exception and in the interests of amity, to their prawn balchao, something we have always tried to imitate but never succeeded. Selma said: I had no idea the delectable fish mayonnaise dish (pronounced miynase ofcourse) was indigenous to Salcette. It truly is a delight and takes pride of place at any wedding or festa. Curious, that such a continental dish is native to Salcette. I always thought Bardez was the last bastion of Indo-European culture, while we Shastikars had maintained our Goaness. :) ___ Goanet mailing list Goanet@lists.goanet.org http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org

So, when someone who agrees with out ideological perspective speaks out, we applaud. It's a reflection of our own politics and bias, even if Scientific! So what you say may be true from *your* perspective. Others would obviously judge things differently. Likewise, I disagree with Mario Gouveia when he calls those whom he does not agree with a cabal. Rather than calling for a block on certain views on Goanet (which remains committed to free speech), those who dislike those views should attempt to clearly, honestly and without getting into a tizzy refute the same. Sorry, I don't think censorship of any perspective is the solution. On the other hand, the job of countering any perspective is the onus of those who disagree with it. Otherwise, we'll end up with a situation like in the past: people quit Goanet after being outargued and accused Goanet of cursing them! Of course, some of them are back now... despite repeated pledges not to post to Goanet. [Goanet] What Goanet Means To Me

Since I have always been a sucker for anything free (I suppose it's the Indian in me), Joegoauk's invitation in 2 sentences or 3 to say what Goanet means to me is graciously accepted. Just as my father loved to gather around the stone bench under the banyan tree and discuss ideas and stories with his fellow Assgaocars, I take great pleasure in doing the same with my fellow Goencars spread all over the world. Hey that's about 5 sentences except for my propensity to roll them all into one. Another prize for that? Now about Goanet and how we conduct ourselves. All and sundry subjects should be open to discussion. I remember when I was 12 years old, Nehru's aunt Vijayalaksmi Pandit an erudite and cultured person in her own right, shocking our parents when she came to present a lecture to them in St Xaviers school. She said let your children read anything and everything. You will be surprised at what good they will learn from it and how they will sooner discern the morally good and the repugnantly evil. What each one says on goanet is in the final analysis his or her own opinion. There is no such thing as religion bashing. If one side has presented their thoughts on atheism then those with faith are open to counter it. Let us avoid targeting individuals and instead seek out their thinking flaws and oppose it. Who knows whether their flaws are not really ours. There is no right and wrong in these discussions, there is just what fits your opinion. Remember Tilak and his famous words I do not agree with what you say but I shall defend with my life if need be, your right to say it. Please avoid hounding anyone, however far out their thinking. It will be our collective loss to lose any person from Goanet and the diversity of thinking they bring to it. One Goencar gone, makes all of us a little poorer in thought. Take heed that not all people have thick skins. Some folks come on the net with sensitivities sharpened or dulled by their own experiences and they come to Goanet to drink of its clear water. The water may not always be still. They do expect it to be oftentimes muddy and roiled and they will still drink from it, but let not the water be so putrid that they recoil and avoid. And finally let us take ourselves seriously only when we have to act on something good, not when we discuss for example Hitler and the IIIrd Reich. The judgment of what Hitler did is at is best left to William Shirer, Hugh Trevor-Roper, the descendants of 6 million Jews and those of the countless millions more he caused to be killed. The Church is not free from blame and we are free to condem what was not done as much as what was. As we must stand ready for our own condemnation ourselves when we merit it. As Shakespeare said, the world is a stage and we are all actors. Deo borem korunc tumin sogleanc bhavanndo and boininndo as my village parish priest would say when he saw the collection plates holding more bounty than was usual. ___ Goanet mailing list Goanet@lists.goanet.org http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org
