We run multiple source dedicated servers on our windows boxes, and haven't
experienced any VAC dropping since we made sure that every server instance
on a box has a unique -sport set (none use the default port) even when the
instances are tied to

Exactly my point, nothing is in the logs and the server isn't crashed so
their's no dump. The bottom line is it's impossible for us to help you fix
what's broken. It takes giving
I cannot reproduce this problem (nor am I sure exactly what the problem

We have no minidumps as it does not require a server to crash or restart for
VAC connectivity to be lost.
The server will be running as VAC enabled, then after some random number of
hours pass, they will mysteriously come up as having no

Alfred,
I have experienced this problem on our win2k3 servers that run CSS.
I will log into a few that have the problem, and see if I can trace
route or someting to the VAC servers.
Do you have any particular DNS for them, or should I just pick what the
game is looking for.?
Thanks for your
I don't believe a traceroute would provide any useful info (you actually
connect too a pool of backend servers, the exact one depends on your
location and system load). I will email you offlist with a couple
specific debugging things you could do.

I've noticed limelight is doing weird metrics to their network, so I
just adjust my routing and the servers appear to operate just fine now.
Before I had problems with servers not getting steam connected, vac2
init problems etc. :)
Maybe you should consider getting a carrier that doesn't use
Yes, I have to restart my servers 5-6 times before they finally
initialize VAC properly. On top of that, it takes 10-15 seconds for
it to say whether VAC is enabled or disabled, so people are trying to
join the server but they get kicked when I have to try again.
Oh, and then the other great bug
Probably because either they're aware of the bugs and have yet to fix them (or
maybe cant without a larger update in the works, or because they can not
successfully and repeatedly reproduce them. Though I do recall a few comments
month back relating to this topic I think from Alfred, so i
