We just ran into this issue. If a job tries to create a new GDG entry that matches a GooVoo that is in deferred roll in status then you will experience data loss. The old GooVoo does not get overwritten but is cataloged as the new entry. APAR OA32968 has been created to resolve this issue.

Why would the system override my allocation of 25 cylinders primary?  Is there a reason to be concerned?  How would I prevent this from happening again? This looks strangely like the difference between a 3380 (47476 bytes/track) and a 3390 (56664). 47476 / 56664 = 0.84 21 / 25 = 0.84

Esmie, Do you have real 3380s on the floor, or just dasd that emulates 3380s? I know when I was at PH and we got rid of all of the 3380s, we had 2 or 3 volumes defined on real 3390s that were emulated 3380s. We needed them for an old Cadam application that didn't work with the 3390 track

If you do not specify space for DATA and INDEX, the system takes the 25 cyls and allocates an INDEX as part of the 25 cyls you specified after the DEFINE. If you want the DATA to contain 25 cyls, then you should specify SPACE for DATA and INDEX. How much space was allocated to the INDEX?

I'm a little late to this conversation, but I just wanted to chime in and say that I agree with the other commenters. Having RMF or CMF is a prereq to ordinary efficiency. And if you're not reasonably efficient, you're wasting (other) money. That's not a platform-specific statement, by the way.
