I'm under the impression that CA has released a plug-in for Eclipse (and
WebSphere Developer for zSeries) that supports CA-Endevor.
For anything else you still have an option: the CARMA API in WDz. CARMA is
designed to let you configure WDz to work with an arbitrary source code
management system
ChangeMan ZMF 5.6 supports Websphere Developer for zSeries (aka WD4Z).
The target date for GA is Sept 8.

I was listening to an IBM podcast on the mainframe, discussing how new
developers can easily get into host development through tools like WebSphere
Developer For zSeries. Does anyone on this list use that product? If so, do you
like it? How did/does it fit into your existing development
Hello Michael,
we are looking at this product.
I know it will work with IBM's SCLM.
I have been told it does not work with Serena's ChangeMan at this time.
I believe the same was true of CA-Endevor.
As I understand it, the WD4z product grew from Eclypse and the Rational
Developer IDEs.
And WebSphere Developer for zSeries is a Passport Advantage product, so
you will receive volume discounts depending on how much other IBM software
you buy. If your company has a mainframe chances are pretty good you'll
have a nice Passport Advantage discount.
Another thing to keep in mind

If you have CICS TS 3.1 - you get one WDfZ for free, even upgrade to it
for
free from preceeding WSED .

You know, I have never quite comprehended the rationale behind charging
more for a floating license than for a static user license. I mean, you could
make a weak argument that the customer could get more use out of the product
with a floating license by exactly the scenario you

For mainframe Java development you can visit http://www.eclipse.org and

Putting on my IBM hat here...have you looked at WebSphere

COBOL, PL/I, or
Assembler development locally on the workstation

I tried looking at WSED, but I cannot figure out how to get a simple

Thanks for the link. For us, the price is simply too great. I won't go
into detail, but at a cost of $7,000 ($5,500 WSED + $1,500 EGL) per
programmer, that is way too expensive. That is, given the management
mind set around here (Windows Everywhere!!!). We have about 70
programmers. All of whom
