Gil, I do NOT use make! I use JCL for this particular port, as it is designed
to be used without Unix Services.
In my day job, I use Solaris, Windows and perhaps Linux and I am well aware
about these tools (make, gcc, etc.) although usually I do not use them because

One small (but critical!) typographical error:
REFORMAT FIELDS=(F2:1,4,?,F2:6)
Should be instead:

just need to handle it a bit differently.Since I don't have the input
data here is something that I made up. I assumed that the header is
denoted by all 0's in position 5 and trailer all 9's in position 5. Since
Alas, the header does not include any e-mail address that cannot be spoofed.
OTOH, the RECEIVED header field inserted by your e-mail provider cannot be
spoofed.
