some of the nice way of getting spool shortage situation alleviated in case
that happens...just do the google on JES2 Privilege resources and that will

2019-03-28 Thread Ravi Gaur
We recently moved to z14 and I exported the OSA-ICC existing configuration via
FTP to mainframe USS as below.

Exporting OSA-ICC configuration file using OSA Advanced Facilities.

To export the OSA-ICC configuration file, follow these steps:

1. Log on to the HMC, select the CPC you want to operate, and open the OSA
Advanced
Facility.
2. Select the OSC CHPID to export the OSA-ICC configuration file. Next, select
Card
specific advanced facilities. Select Manual configuration options and click OK
3. The Manual Configuration Options window opens as below . Select Export source
file and click OK.
4. The task requests that hostname/username and mainframe Password is entered
with Unix file system to get the configuration in the USS
6. The HMC displays the ACT2042 window (. Click OK.
7. On Mainframe in USS you can see File should have been exported at the given
path.

Re: CTC question

2019-03-27 Thread Ravi Gaur
Gadi,

This is how IOCP look like at our end for CHPID 25 which pair with CHPID 24
(not listed) :

CNTLUNIT CUNUMBR=1A18,PATH=((CSS(0),25)),UNITADD=((00,008)),  *
   LINK=((CSS(0),18)),CUADD=1,UNIT=FCTC
 IODEVICE ADDRESS=(1A18,008),UNITADD=00,CUNUMBR=(1A18),*
   STADET=Y,   *
   NOTPART=((CSS(0),PART1,PART2,PART3,PART4)), *
   UNIT=FCTC

Now there's few things i noticed at your end the CU/control unit is 1501
however device links are 200 also to make a pair both partitions which are in
the access list for the devices/ctc should be UP .

Re: A new LPAR entry in a existing IODF

As illustrated you can't touch the PROD iodf since as soon as you try to make
any changes HCD will force you to create WORK IODF . same goes with the IOCDS
Slot which won't let you override the existing active iocds slotanyway so
your question regarding creating a duplicate(with different partition name) you
 can use "Repeat (copy) partitions " which underline let you carry
chip/cu/dev/osa/ica etc. configuration obviously you will have to retune the
configuration on the new partition as per your requirement.

Re: Sysplex between two hardware

2018-07-10 Thread Ravi Gaur
We took an approach where for each plex we had CF defined on two cec's as that
make sense :

1. Systems defined in the plex are defined on both CEC ...i.e. Say we have plex
of 4 systems (SYS1,SYS2,SYS3,SYS4), each with 2 systems on one CEC1(SYS1 & SYS2
Active(Normal running)  the rest 2 in Inactive state on CEC1 (SYS3 & SYS4) ,
similar definition goes other way which is CEC2(SYS3 & SYS4 Active(normal
running) & rest 2 in inactive state on CEC2(SYS1 & SYS2) This provide
resiliency in terms of whole CEC Going down ...Now both have CF Definition for
the Plex on both CEC which provide resiliency for the CF as well with
Structures defined in duplex mode ...This we have been running for years and
provide us various benefits example say we are applying or doing microcode
upgrade or for various other reason require structures to move around ...those
all features can be exploited when we have structures defined in the duplex
mode with hardware split over two separate physical box
So simple rule and policy and commonsense work here

This is what you can do at the time LOGON script/clist is executed which create
the ISPF environment.
Basically check if for the userid alias exist if no then create the log dataset
and also the alias.

"LISTC ENT('"uid"') ALIAS"
   if rc=4 then do
  ldrc=LISTDSI("'"uid".xxx.LOG'")
  if ldrc<5 then do
 "DEL '"uid".xxx.LOG'"
 end
  "CREATEALS ANYALL" => THIS IS A ROUTINE WHICH
CREATE THE ALIAS
  if ldrc<5 then do
 a1='SPACE(1 2) TRACKS'
 a2='RECFM(F B)'
 a3='LRECL('syslrecl')'
 a4='BLKSIZE('sysblksize')'
 a5='DSORG('sysdsorg')'
 "ALLOC DA('"uid".xxx.LOG') NEW CATALOG "a1" "a2" "a3" "a4" "a5

Re: [EXTERNAL] Re: DAF (CBT 094) - Unknown Datatype x01BB

2018-05-21 Thread Ravi Gaur
So initial question had two parts :

1. DAF Unknown X01BB data - - As other lister's pointed indeed there was
80/RACF types and initially when I had compiled/linkedited the CBT DAF had it
NO ...anyway i have no intention to process those records type hence will
ignore them...
Just FYI - I have compiled the latest DAF from CBT with DFSMS Subtype 7
records to NO and it compiled nicely
Thanks to all who responded.

2. 2nd question was regarding knowing about the members which were accessed in
the pds proclib ...and as stated there's no nice way of knowing it ...SMF Type
14/15 doesn't report the dataset even correctly i had a PMR opened with IBM and
was referred for RFE as it doesn't report dataset as being in the concatenation
and moreover TYPE30 will report JES as a Jobname for the proclib's so here's
something which i did (again not 100% accurate but let the wheel rolling)...

Processed SMF Type30_4 and extracted JOB/JESNR/SMFTIME (splitted to
DATE/HOUR/MINUTE/RACFUSER ) and had them merged by DATE/HOUR/MINUTE/RACFUSER
with the PDSMAN User records(which in my shop we are cutting to 179)...in 95%
cases it reported ok but again as there's no absolutely key to merge there's
some vague records as well ...

anyway after merging pdsman and type30_4 i had following records
extractedwill see how it goes when i present it to other business
partnersB

jobname,dsname,member,action(what purpose like browse/expand),date,hour,jesnr

DAF (CBT 094) - Unknown Datatype x01BB

2018-05-16 Thread Ravi Gaur
Has anyone seen on z/OS2.2 I see DAF is reporting "Unknown Datatype x01BB" and
while downloading and assemble/linkedit latest CBT 094 gives me 0255 for
various undefined symbol though I have checked the maclib .

anyone the point is has anyone recent ran DAF against SMF data for 14/15 for
DATASET EQ and got Unknown datatype message?

Also I know it's a separate topic but I have a requirement to know which procs
are being expanded by which job from the proclib so trying to get that and
PDSMAN do report a little for READ/BROWSE function against the members if it's
enable to cut the smf record however doesn't report correct job name...so if
anybody also has idea if similar been in past a necessity for them to know and
how they achieved it will be great to know as well.

if you are licensed for SAS/MXG it's easy to get PDB created as below :

//LIBRARY  DD DISP=SHR,DSN=X.MXG.FORMATS
//SMF   DD DISP=SHR,DSN=X

So obviously to bring down lla/xcfas and then delete them would have to wait

Re: Capture REXX/CLIST software usage.

2016-09-16 Thread Ravi Gaur
I have been working on similar thing...two approach I have shortlisted to begin
with :

1. write a sample code which does write to a dataset or log as soon as somebody
invoke rexx/clist from that particular library...and then check out further
who/when/what invoked it and how to clean it up...

2. PDSMAN if you have got capability to write user smf record once pds
(rexx/clist) library added in the list to be monitored

hope these ideas help.

SORT - Merge Two Files by Variable

2016-05-17 Thread Ravi Gaur
Since I am not that good on Sort programming could somebody throw a code which
could help in Merging two files which has common BY variable..(I generally do
it with SAS) however where this required it's not licensedso it's possible
via rexx however for millions of records that's damn slow...so believe DFSORT
can easily achieve it with SPLICE ...

So here's what I have in two files..

FILE 1 Contain variables like DSNAME VOLSER
FILE2 Contain variables like DSNAME VOLSER

Now my requirement is based on VOLSER MATCH between file1 and file2 the output
record should be created in FILE3.

Thanks, Ravi

Re: DFSORT - SMF Records - GMT To EST

2016-02-03 Thread Ravi Gaur
Thanks Kolusu,

So here's the situation we have 5 way sysplex where 3 lpar's running with the
GMT timezone however 2 are running with separate asia time ...one is GMT -7 or
8 based on daylight saving and another is GMT +7 or 8 ...

Now requirement is to convert monthly collected the SMF Time and sync it before
get processed so that we do not compare apple with oranges situation

Now I could certainly used the ERBCHGMT utility however issue with this I see
is with every year we will have to make the JCL Changes and go through the
change management cycle ...so instead of this was looking DFSORT where I have
parm library mentioned with the Time/date so that with every daylight saving we
adjust an hour accordingly without going lot of hassle..

Now I ran the example you gave and used the ERBSCAN to look at the data before
and after and see SMFTIME is coming out same , Do we have some way to ensure
DFSORT is really converting the time?

Step1 : showing DISP=(NEW,PASS,DELETE) So basically the dataset is being

Step2 : DISP=OLD ...Just telling program to have EXCLUSIVE hold on the dataset
while processing so again as per the step1 dataset is suppose to be deleted...

This is so simple as it is ...

Now coming to STEP3:- where it show jcl error is obvious as

The program can be retrieved from the FTP site:
 testcase.boulder.ibm.com
It is in the directory:

With the name:
 slotcnt.install
The program should be retrieved in BINary mode, it is NOT tersed,
and it contains fixed-length, 80-byte records.
It must be link edited into a library (APF authorization is not needed,
sample link edit JCL is included in the install file) and, when
executed, will produce a one-time report of slot usage across the
system.

PDS Compress

We had no backup of the dataset and then have had to create new and with best

HSM Log extract

2012-12-31 Thread Ravi Gaur
Good day(!2013),

While working on HSM issues generally we refer HSM log and in our shop it's
pretty difficult sometime as we got 14way plex and sometime each of them in a
day write millions of record in hsm log which make it tuff(though we balanced
workload on each to let one or two handle particular hsm request/function)
However still difficult :-(..Now what I thought to code a rexx or something
else(if somebody got other idea) which can take inputs and process either the
offloaded HSM Logs(flat files) or from running STC's in sdsf(obviously would
have to give options to choose any of these two) and then on basis of time or
string it filter out the HSM Log in a plex and gives me desired outputs..

ARCPRLOG/ARCPEDIT are basic utilities which take inputs of flat files and
process them on each task of HSM(i.e recall,recycle etc) however what my main
focus is to cut the records on basis of user options and get what you want
instead get everything..
So before I start evaluating this thought ..Anybody got idea's so that i avoid
reinventing the wheel? Thanks

Re: DFSMShsm Abend S878

2012-10-18 Thread Ravi Gaur
We are having a very busy system as well (for example 15 volume migration
tasks, 13 recycle tasks, and 10 recall tasks running) hence couple of things
being discussed are :

Time to run HSM's major functions(recycle/migration etc) to
ensure you have them spread out as much as possible.

consider using the Mutiple Address Space HSM (MASH) function. Using MASH, you
can run multiple
instances of HSM on an LPAR and assign some of the workload to the
additional HSM(s).

Use DSS cross-memory mode for HSM procsessing. This will move much of
the storage requirements of DSS to cross-memory address spaces and get
them out of the HSM user region.

(FYI Above DSS Cross memory is a new function drived from zOS1.9 onward more
to address 878-
10 issue and going to run new address space for most of the HSM
function except Recall and indeed need a kind of whole new setup and to
address/implement it a complete new project needed.)

Region size increase (check with IEFUTL exit) and also any above the line
storage definition in STC Proc of dfhsm.

FYI - There's some orphaned tape MVT allocations. These are control blocks that
were
allocated by HSM for tape processing but do not get freed when the task
finished with the tape and being addressed with APAR OA40365.

Re: Binder MODULE map for UNIX files

2012-10-12 Thread Ravi Gaur
Not sure but does it has to do with concatenation ?

The binder does not support z/OS UNIX files concatenated with other z/OS UNIX
files or data sets of any type.

I might guess quick enough to raise Service request with IBM to HSM L2 Team
provide you the patch ..

Re: DCOLLECT Ouput recort Structure

2012-07-04 Thread Ravi Gaur
Got it sorted ..it's more DFSORT OUTREC i should have used rather than Build as
that doesn't support the PD to ZD conversion function.

OPTION VLSHRT
MERGE FIELDS=COPY
INCLUDE COND=((9,2,CH,EQ,C'D ',AND,
  74,1,BI,EQ,B'1...'))
OUTFIL FNAMES=DCOLOUT,CONVERT,
OUTREC=(1,4,  * RDW
   5:29,44,   * DATASET NAME
   49:83,6,   * VOLUME SERIAL NUMBER
   57:109,4,PD,TO=ZD,LENGTH=7,* CREATION DATE
   66:117,4,PD,TO=ZD,LENGTH=7,* LAST REFERENCE DATE
   180:X)  * PAD WITH BLANKS
END

I could include 74,1,BI,EQ,B'...1') for PDSE as well and that's working
good as well...

Thanks all who responded..I always try to put the solution back since might
other who looking for same inforamtion get it useful.
Thanks,Ravi

Re: DCOLLECT Ouput recort Structure

2012-07-01 Thread Ravi Gaur
Thankyou all for your responses..Appreciated.

May I have another quick question on the Dcollect TYPE'D ..

I am trying to print the following fields using build statement in ICETOOL get
0C7 - Data exception:

108(X'6C')CHARACTER 4 DCDEXPDT EXPIRATION DATE (ddd F)

It's PD(Packed decimal) and could not see reference point to convert it to
print (basically needed a manual refrence point so that if use other variable
could convert them as well).

Code :-
OPTION VLSHRT
MERGE FIELDS=COPY
INCLUDE COND=((9,2,CH,EQ,C'D ',AND,
  74,1,BI,EQ,B'1...',OR,
  74,1,BI,EQ,B'...1'))
OUTFIL FNAMES=REPORTD,VTOF,
BUILD=(1,4,  * RDW
   5:29,44,  * DATASET NAME
   49:83,6,  * VOLUME SERIAL NUMBER
   57:117,4,PD,M11)  * LAST REFERENCE DATE = 0C7
Error
END

Got it sorted finally...here a part of the code which might help others in case
they try same

/* POSITION TO THE START OF THE RETURNED VARIABLE INFORMATION */
   POS1 = POS1 + 46
   LEN = C2D(SUBSTR(DWORK,POS1+4,2))

/* POSITION TO THE START OF THE RETURNED DATA*
   POS2 = POS1 + 6
   NVSMATTR = SUBSTR(DWORK,POS2,LEN)
   IF NVSMATTR = 'M' THEN DO
 S = S + 1
 STEM.S = DNAME

DCOLLECT Ouput recort Structure

2012-06-30 Thread Ravi Gaur
Could somebody please explain me the ICETOOL INCLUDE Parm for copying only
Dcollect TYPE  = 'D '
I look at the output record structure in z/OS V1R12.0 DFSMS AMS for Catalogs
and found below

Table 15. DCOLLECT Output Record Structure

Offset |   Type   |   Lngth | Name  | Description
4(X'4') | CHARACTER |   2 |  DCURCTYP |  RECORD TYPE FOR THIS RECORD

And in most of the sort example we using 9 as beginer key for selecting the
particular type..?? like

INCLUDE=((9,2,CH,EQ,C'D ')
   |  |  |   |---Compared field
   |  |  Character
   |  ---2 byte long
   begining field === why we have 9 though if i look at
the Column from the dcollect data it's 4th column :

=COLS +1+-
01  µ   V   1X01  Ï
02  °   D   1X01  Ï
03  ö   A   1X01  Ï
