Hi Mario,
This depends on your overall load on your server.
We're running our ns1 on the IMail backup server and ns2 on our main IMail server.

You have the same configuration that I am using: ns2 in the main Imail

Nevertheless, I keep the primary DNS server running just for DNS services.

I totally agree with you. I also try to keep a box per service.
My rationale for keeping a secondary DNS in the same box with Imail was:

Hi,
I'm looking for a kind of a best practice to deal with free mail services and
spam. Our local (swiss) Freemail companies are blacklisted on one or more DNSBL.
Now with the help of mxGuard, it's more easier to deal with DNSBL since we have
a scoring system.
Mostly all mails from those free
we run it each time they change their list. The hope is that the
list gets manageable and the client handles the bounces. With a list
that large I would say they'll never do that.
I use IMGate/postfix's SAV to clean new big lists before we put one
into production. Enormously speeds up list

This may be old news to many but if you are using McAfee Virus Scan software
there is a problem with an update that's causing legit files and executables
to be either quarantined or deleted. It's already happened to a client of
mine as it quarantined several of her key Cold Fusion .exe files.

This does not answer you question but it is a solution against the

Sandy has a free plugin to MS SMTP and there are other inexpensive
solutions as well.
