Jaws don't work well with Putty.
Use Cygwin instead.
I've been using Cygwin for quite a long time with Jaws and I have discovered
that it's not perfect either.
But it sure does work much better.
I then installed BRLTTY to handle Braille instead of Jaws when using Cygwin,

I only need brltty and ssh since the linux box is under my desk and it would

Exactly, unfortunately I don't have a minimal Debian VM at the moment.
I will look into creating my own VM when I've got the time, but in the
meantime I just use Vinux which are an Linux distro based on Debian and
aimed towards visually impaired.

If you are talking about system restore I would go back and undo my last
