[JAWS-Users] saving and reading txt files

2013-12-11 Thread Liz Wade
Hi I am a fairly new jaws 14 user and have found something strange from
privious versions. When I save files (webpages as text for example), when I
open them to read them a bunch of really strange characters is displayed
along with the text, do I need to change a jaws setting by chance or is this
something in notepad. If I select and copy info from a webpage and
physically create a new txt document and copy said text into it it reads
properly. As stated I never noticed this before so may be missing
something. Thanks.

yes, I also have noticed some unwanted changes in JAWS 14. Whenever I
try to copy selected text that doesn't copied instead unwanted text is
copied. It doesn't happens with all websites.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws Authorization

2013-12-11 Thread Trish
Good Mornin' Yall,

Just wonderin' why this mornin' when I turned on my laptop, I am asked for my
Jaws authorization?

It was stating it will run in 40 minute demo mode if I didn't activate, what's
up with that?

So, I followed the prompts and my serial number was showing, is this a new
feature FSis doing to make sure we all are authorized or something?

Strange very strange..

I had just done it cause Jaws was not showing in the sys-tray, if my 6 items

lineup, so when I rebooted, this is when the activation screen popped up.

When you use the Insert V to go to the Quick settings you land in a search
box. Type Gr for instance and then arrow down. The first choice says
something like tagged, all, or none. Pressing spacebar on this rotates
through those three choices. Tagged is the default I think. So just press
spacebar to all. Then tab three times to OK and press enter.

In Jaws 14 and WLM 2011 I was able to label the graphics for collapsed and
expanded and then have it read labeled graphics. In Jaws 15 I cannot label
the graphics because I can't get the cursor to go to them like I did in 14.
But if you turn Read all graphics on in the quick settings (Insert V) then
it will give you the numbered graphics. I am getting used to figuring out
which number is which. The graphics are as follows in WLM 11.
249 Collapsed
304 Expanded
294 Read
656 Unread
160 Attachment

The 249 comes first when there are several graphics so you can use right
arrow to expand the list and left arrow to collapse the list again.
It might take a little getting used to but I really like having all my
threads kept together.

If anyone knows how to get to the graphics in WLM with Jaws 15 to label them
I would love to know. I tried all the ways I could think of but couldn't
get the cursor on the actual graphic I needed to label. I used the
directions from the Windows Live Mail 2011 Guide but it did not work in
Jaws 15. Then I tried everything else I could think of but had no luck.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Authorization

2013-12-11 Thread Jorge Paez
My only suggestion would be to run it in 40 minute mode and see if it runs
out.
I remember on another laptop I had previously it used to tell me the same
thing when I plugged it in and then when I unplugged it.
It never actually ran out, it would just warn me about that every so often.
Anoying but never actually real so didn't pay attention to it much.
Anyway, just test the 40 minute mode to make sure it in fact runs out.
If that's the case then just call FS.

[JAWS-Users] Text analizer in Jaws and status cells in Focus Braille displlay

2013-12-11 Thread Teresa Arroyo
Hello all,
Using Jaws 15 Windows 8 and 40 cell Focus Braille Displlay.
My first question has to do with the text analizer in Jaws. When I using this
feature, Especially when I am doing my translation jobs, Jaws would say things
such as ‘font change at 12’, or ‘colsing quites and 16’. What does this mean?
What do these numbers mean? I suppose it indicates changes in sertain places,
but I don’t understand what the numbers are about. Is it the cell number?
My second question has to do with status cells in the Focus Braille display. In
these cells appear three numbers and a letter, usually a ‘v’ or a ‘p’. What
does these characters indicate? Does this have to do with the poosition of the
cursor?
I have read the Focus Ufser’s Guide, but it doen’nt explain this. It talks
about the status cells, but without detail.
Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Teresa Arroyo

No not a new feature. Just a bug that occasionally appears that F.S. can't
squash. Usually, if you boot up again, or unload and reload Jaws, it will
be happy.

Good Mornin' Yall,

Just wonderin' why this mornin' when I turned on my laptop, I am asked for

It was stating it will run in 40 minute demo mode if I didn't activate,
what's up with that?

So, I followed the prompts and my serial number was showing, is this a new

Hello Trish,

I have had that happen to me before also. I think it happens if you let
the laptops battery go completely dead. Once you update your
authorization all will be well! For some reason when the laptop battery
goes dead or is removed this happens, not sure why.

2013-12-11 Thread Mike B.
Hi Jim,

From:
I posted a question to FS about how to determine the number of activation
keys remaining. In case any of you wanted to find out, here are their
instructions, verbatim:

Thank you for contacting Freedom Scientific Support.

We suggest going to FSACTIVATE.com

http://www.fsactivate.com
2. Click on the continue product activation button.
3. Down arrow to: Verify the number of activation keys available for
your Freedom Scientific product and press enter.
4. Down arrow to serial number and again down arrow to edit.
Type in your JAWS serial number and press enter on the submit button.
5. Underneath the first seven digits of the authorization number, you
will find the number of keys remaining.

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact
us.

Installing JAWS and Not Burn a Key

This is relevant to Windows XP, so your folder names may be different. Also

this is only a suggested process and the author will not assume any
liability if

it does not work as advertised on your system. But others have used it with

success.

PREPARATION
Before you make any changes to your system you must preserve two folders on

another drive or partition so you can copy them later. Do this now while

you're thinking about it. Doing this after you've made changes is useless.

1. Open C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific
2. Copy the folder called 'activator'
3. Paste this folder to some other drive on your computer or an external

backup drive to keep it safe.
4. Do the same for the folder 'authorization'.
5. Now you will have these two folders preserved for when you need them

later. Don't lose them or forget where you put them.
6. If you have some sort of archiving software or a synchronization
software,

set it up so that these two folders are automatically backed up. Then you
don't

even need to think about them.

UPDATING JAWS
If you update your version of JAWS it is recommended you recopy these two

folders after the install is complete. Again if you use an automatic backup

process you don't need to worry about this step.

USING THESE FOLDERS
Follow these steps if you are ever confronted with the message to
re-authorize

your installation of JAWS. This can occur if you change some hardware, or

add a drive or RAM.
1. Be sure to be running the newest version of JAWS when you restart your

computer. If you don't, the activation may not cover all versions you have

installed. So if you have version 9, 11, and 12 installed, be sure to boot
using

JAWS 12.
2. If or when the activation dialog comes up, cancel out of the dialog.
3. Copy the two folders 'activator' and 'authorization' from your backup
drive.
4. Paste both to the C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific folder.
5. Allow all files to be overwritten.
6. Reboot your computer.

CAVEATS
This should work as long as you do so on the same machine (computer). It is

not known to work if you try to paste these two folders onto the C: drive of
a

different computer. That would obviously violate the whole purpose of the

keys -- to prevent JAWS from being installed on too many computers.

Take care.

Hi Jim,

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] In Windows 8.1, how do I map a network drive using JAWS and the keyboard?

2013-12-11 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

What are the steps to map a network drive in Windows 8.1 using the keyboard?
I've seen a couple of things on google that say click here and then click
there, but when I try to do them using the keyboard, I can never get to
where you specify the drive letter and remote folder. Usually the screen
I'm trying to navigate just disappears and I'm on the desktop.

Thanks.

2013-12-11 Thread Mike B.
Hi Jim,

The steps below are for Adobe XI / 11:

Note that there are links with the Security Enhanced section to explain the
consequences of
unchecking items there, and you may want to find out what they have to say.
Open Adobe from your desktop shortcut or start menu then, proceed with the
steps below.

1. Go into preferences with control-k. JAWS lands on an item in a tree view.
If you have been here before, it will be the item you last opened. Arrow
down to Security Enhanced. Note that this is the item below Security.
Then uncheck these 2 options, the 2nd option is not necessary to uncheck
but, optional:
Enable Protected Mode at startup, needs to be unchecked.
Enable Enhanced Security, does not need to be unchecked.
Note. When making changes in the Security Enhanced section, you will be told
that Adobe needs to be restarted, but you can wait to finish the other
changes first.

2. Launch the Edit menu, scroll down to the Accessibility submenu and open
it. Scroll down to the Set-up Assistant and press enter. The Set-Up
Assistant has five screens, but the only change you have to make is on the
last, screen 5 of 5. Go through all the screens, pressing spacebar on Next
in each instance, until you reach the fifth and final screen. Here, tab to
the check box labeled Display PDF documents in the web browser and make
sure it
is unchecked. It may be checked by default. Then tab to the Okay button
press enter to save your changes close.

If you are running AdobeX / 10, let me know I'll send those steps as well.

Take care.

2013-12-11 Thread Mike B.
Hi Jim,

I found a note from when I asked how to assign files to programs. The notes
are below:

Hi All,

How do you assign / associate file types to be opened with specific programs
in Windows7? I went to Tools / Options didn't find the File Types tab /
page! Where is it?! LOL LOL
Do you use the context menu exclusively to assign / associate file types
with specific programs in Widows7? If the File Types Tab / Page exists,
would someone please tell me where it is? All help will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks much, take care.
Mike

From: Ann Byrne
Type file association in the search window, and you'll be deposited there.
Ann

From: Joni Colver
In Windows 7 I typed file extension into the search box. I arrowed down to
make a file type always open in a specific program. I entered on that. I
chose dot doc files. Word 2010 was the default. I chose WordPad. When I
opened a doc file there was gibberish. I then went back and chose Jarte.
Now when I enter on a doc file it opens and is readable in Jarte.

Thanks for asking the question Mike because now it is easier to open my
multitude of doc files! Rather than opening Jarte and using the open dialog
I can just enter on a doc file and it opens in Jarte.

Joni

From Rick Justice
You can type, control, in the Run Dialogue box press enter, this will take
you to the Control panel, press the letter D, to find Default Programs. You
should be able to assign / associate file types here as well.

Is it me or does 15 not work half as well as 14 on itunes store?
It is just the store I am having issues with.

I am really not having much luck with 15 on itunes and windows 7.

Graham

Re: [JAWS-Users] Where does it show the number of activations I have left using jaws 15?

2013-12-11 Thread Pinky
You can do the insert + J then go to about and it will tell you there how
many you have.

Mike, Thanks. However, you would think that requesting activations might be
somewhat easier. Jim

Hi Jim,

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact
us.
Dave

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] How to add album to iTunes Library

2013-12-11 Thread Pedro Romero
Hello all.
Using Jaws 11, Windows XP and latest version of iTunes, how do I go about
adding an album to my iTunes library.
I have no problem adding individual songs but I'm hoping I don't have to add
each song separately. Any help is appreciated as always.

Please disregard question. No sooner had I written the e-mail when I found
the solution in the file menu. Album has been successfully added.

Sorry.
