I'm usually pretty good at this stuff, but I'm stumped for the moment and maybe someone here could offer a suggestion. I'm trying to download a direct deposit form from my bank. This is a pdf file. I mostly just need some of the info from the form and may not actually be filling it out online. At any rate, I am using Firefox, JAWS 18 and Windows 10. When I click on the link to the form, it is supposed to open a pDF in the Adobe viewer, perhaps in its own window. JAWS reads a message that Firefox has blocked the website from opening a popup window, and I hear it say "alt-o for options", and also "click to close this message". Obviously, I want the file to open. I've come across dialogues like this before, such as the standard file download one, and don't generally have a problem with them. However, here, pressing alt-o doesn't seem to do a damn thing. I can't re-click the link at all; if I try doing it again, I don't think that initial alert even pops up . not until I re-log-in to the bank site. I've tried saving the link to my drive, but it's just an html file that probably generates a part of the pdf content, and I can't access it this way. Any ideas? Why am I not able to interact properly with this dialogue box? I will be sending out over 150 of these messages as I receive contact info. If I have multiple to send out at once, I plan to put all of the addresses in the BCC line. I do use Outlook 2010 for my personal e-mail, so is there a way to access this other account with Outlook and not have the messages get mixed together? If you do setup the second account do not check the box to save the messages on the server, just leave it blank and all of the messages should stay on the server until you delete them by going to the webpage for that account. Hi, Your plan sounds good to me, as long as it works for you. I have a win 7 machine running JAWS 15 and have no plans to upgrade in the hopes of missing all the headaches with versions 17 and 18. And like you when my win 7 machine dies I will probably wind up with a win 10 machine, so for now I'm just trying to keep what little bit of hair I have left. Back in 2013, when I was finally declared legally blind and had to switch from Zoom Text to JAWS, JAWS was at version 15. As I recall, other than having to learn it on my own because the Lighthouse here is a bad joke, there were few, if any problems I had with it, it just worked. JAWS 16 was pretty much the same but with the addition of the very useful command search function. Then came JAWS 17 with the apparent almost complete rewrite of the engine. >From there it seemed like every time I turned around I was running into another misfunction of JAWS. Version 18, when it came out wasn't much better. So, after long thought, as well as fighting an apparently recalcitrant version of JAWS, I've finally decided to install version 16 to see how it compares to version 18. If it works as well as my memory of it recalls, I will eventually uninstall JAWS 18, and consider not maintaining my SMA anymore. Besides my dissatisfaction with versions 17 and 18, it seems like most of the enhancements are for Windows 10 and have no effect on my Windows 7 system which I have no plans to upgrade. If things do change for the better in the future, I can always reestablish a new SMA. I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this idea or has already preceded me in downgrading back to version 16. Thanks! Later... A useful suggestion, but I'm still stuck with the Chrome sales page as my homepage. I hope someone can advise me how to set a different homepage. For people's convenience, you explain how to navigate Chrome settings without needing to turn off the virtual cursor. In JAWS settings, you recommend the following settings; Frame show start & end, should be checked. In line frames show, should be on. These settings must be made when focus is on the Chrome settings page. JAWS distinguishes between the Chrome domain and the Chrome browser. Thus, while inline frames in the settings area is set to on, it can be off for the browser. I wouldn't make these settings your universal defaults, and I think Mike would agree. Press enter on the Settings option then press, Insert + Z, to turn the virtual cursor off & you can tab through the Settings options. Or you can press the Alt key to open the list, arrow up to Settings, press, Insert + Z, to turn the virtual cursor off, then press enter on Settings & you can tab through the options. Shift + Enter does not work. Take care. Mike From: Mike B Hi All, Running Widows 7 Pro, Chrome, & Jaws 15 thru 17 latest. When in Chrome if you press the, Alt key, it opens a vertical view of the menues. Well, in J17 when I would arrow down to the, Settings Option & press enter to open, & here is where my problems would begin in J17. In J15 & 16 after pressing enter on the Settings Option I can tab through all the various options but, with J17 I had to turn the virtual cursor off, Insert + Z, before I could navigate through this menu. After some playing around in Jaws 17's Quick Settings, Insert + V, I found that having these 2 settings set the way they're shown below allowed me to navigate the Settings Menu with J17 using the tab key just like with J15 & J16, without having to turn the virtual cursor off. This might not work for everyone but, it worked for me & it's something y'all can try if you experience the same thing I encountered. Here are the 2 settings as they should be: Heading and Frame Options Frame show start & end, should be checked. In line frames show, should be on. Note: For Chrome settings purposes, you want in-line frames on. for website navigation purposes, to skip past ads, you want in-line frames off. Hi Mike, Thanks for the attempt. I followed your instructions to no avail. They lead me to the same place that I visited last night, with the same results. When I put recent: in front of my email address and clicked on test account settings I got an error both times. Tab until you reach your list of accounts and highlight your Gmail account. Press alt+a to open the change dialog. Then tab to your address and add the recent: at the beginning. My computer started acting weird a couple of days ago, it popped up saying the magic and jaws were installed incorrectly and the they were now running in forty minute mode. I did a complete shutdown and restart which seemed to solve the problem. The first time it occurred I thought it was just a glitch. The next morning when I restarted my computer the exact same thing occurred, and a restart solved the issue again. The third morning I had no issues after starting the computer for the day. While checking my email I went to the classmates.com website to get the particulars on my 40th high school reunion, I clicked on a link there to see a message from a classmate, which brought up a popup stating that my computer was infected and that I needed to call this 888 toll free number. I tried to close the popup but it wouldn't close, then I tried to close firefox and it wouldn't respond either. So, I called the toll free number and got someone who spoed very poor English, I asked him who he was with and he told me Microsoft technical support. I asked him once again and was told the t=same thing. He had me open the run box and put in hh space h and ftell him what was on the window, then he had me find and connect to ? (forgot this one). At which time he had full access to my computer. At this point he was telling me everything that I needed to do to prevent malware/ransome ware, then he launched into a sales pitch for three different levels of protection and he was going to hand me off to a technician. At this point the light came on, and I said " So let me see if I understand this correctly, you put ransome ware on my computer, and now in order to get it fixed you are pumping me for God knows how much money?", at this point he muted his phone, and I attempted to shutdowm my computer, but it didn't respond. I tried a second shutdown and still no response, so I did a hard shutdown (held the power button down for approximately 6 seconds). Then I pulled my Ethernet cable. At this point I thought I was in deep excrement. I then called the company who did the AT build on this computer, I talked with a tech support guy who, said "Oh my, is the computer on now?. He worked me through giving him access to my computer with the sighted assistance of one of my granddaughtrs, then he got my jaws and magic programs going again, checked to see what damage had been done, checked to see if funning the windows updates was ok with me, started the 127 update downloads, and said that if I had any more problems to call him again tomorrow. If I hadn't had this resource, I would still be off line strggling to get jaws and magic back so that I could function. I guess the moral of this story is "It can happen to you", and I can't thank the people at boundless AT enough for their assistance. Not only did they save my bacon, they seem to have fixed my initial issue of going into 40 minute mode. I highly recommend Boundless AT as a source for Assistive Technology enabled computers. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws issues and more
Ransome ware is malware that can encrypt all of your files, and the only way to get them unencrypted is to get the encryption code from somewhere. The hackers hope that you will pay them for the code. My wife's laptop was encrypted by ransome ware, and I am still hoping to find an encryption code to unencrypt her machine. Unfortunately the No More Ransome Project website didn't have the key for her ransome ware. https://www.nomoreransom.org/crypto-sheriff.php HTH, John Fitzgerald Muse, Oklahoma Article V Convention of States http://www.cosaction.com/?recruiter_id=1022484 -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Nicole Valicia Thompson-Andrews Sent: Thursday, September 22, 2016 6:30 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws issues and more What's Ransomeware? [JAWS-Users] Jaws issues and more
Hi Everyone, I am putting this info out so that you can recognize some of the signs and hopefully prevent someone from being taken, and I apologize in advance if this doesn't meet the strict guidelines for the list. [JAWS-Users] accessible video editor
Hi, I have a video tape (VHS) of my grandmother describing her life story and explaining all of her old photographs (who's who, dates and occasions). My wife has a vhs/dvd recorder and hass made a dvd for me, but I want to edit some of the unrelated stuff left over from previous recordings on the tape. Can some one recommend an accessible video/audio editing program that a total newbie can use? Re: [JAWS-Users] OOTunes contact page
I was able to fill out all of the form, except user name because I don't have one. Wwhen I pressed the submit button the screen would change, but the form was still there, which leads me to believe that it was never submitted. I did manage to search the page using magic, and found a line that was not spoken "please fill in the boxes marked in red" so I tabbed through all of the form to double check. All boxes were filled except user name, so I resubmitted. Again the screen changed but ledt me on the forms page. So I tried putting none in the user name box, and resubmitted, again the screen changed, but left me on the forms page. At this point I decided to see if some one had a direct email address that they were willing to share. To use it, press your JAWS command key followed quickly with the space bar and you should hear a little click, after the click press the letter r for research it. To get your weather, type in your zip code then press the tab key and then there is a list of the categories available to you, now press the letter w for weather and it will bring up your local weather. When you do the JAWS space bar this puts you into what is called the layered keystrokes. After you bring up the research it and press tab you can arrow up and down to see what all is available to you. Have fun playing with this.
