Re: [JAWS-Users] Skype 8 for desktop answering incoming call?

2018-07-18 Thread Panagiotis Antonopoulos
That's very useful Cristobal, I took it that contrl-shift-p is only to start
an audio call from our part, not as an answering shortcut. Using this logic,
might contrl-shift-k answer directly in video mode, I wonder. I also want to
draw our group's attention to the fact that on this computer, when hitting
contrl-shift-k I need to use the bypass key first, jawskey-3 first.
Otherwise a window dealing with place markers opens and I am not sure if you
can get rid of this.
Take care,
Takis

SO anyway, to answer my own question since it seems no one had the answer.
The actual command to answer an incoming call with Skype 8.x desktop is
control plus shift plus P. This was listed in the link I provided as the
command to start a call.
Still though, it seems you have to be in the Skype window to execute any of
these commands. Be it answer, hang up, mute, etc. This is a rather needless
annoyance since before, the hotkeys were universal no matter where you may
have been in the machine.
It may seem like a minor thing, but I often work in different virtual
desktops with lots of programs and windows open at the same time and having
to scramble to get to the right window/desktop and then perform the action
when before a simple alt plus pg up or pg down worked fine comes off as a
pointless step backwards.

Hi Farez/all,

What you are looking for is skype uwp the more modern and very different
versions of skype. I installed the script yesterday, but have encountered a
small problem with this pc, which is for a crucial shortcut to start a video
call, contrl-shift-k. This seems to be opening a window dealing with place
markers. I am not sure if this is a jaws thing, as it did not occur on my
other computer when modern skype was installed. I bypassed that this
afternoon, after my tech installed scripts for business skype through
teamviewer and it did not do this using the computer remotely. But it did it
to me again once on my computer, but it occurred to me to use the bypass key
jawskey-3 and then the keystroke worked. If anyone else is aware of this
place marker issue among our group I would be interested in advice as to how
I could get this not interfere with skype keystrokes. Anyway, here is a link
for the scripts.

Hi Ed/all,
The skype version I got is 8.25. Judging from experience with my other
computer at my university base at Ioannina, I would say, yes the scripts are
useful. However, I encountered a problem here. If you want to start a video
call with focus on a certain contact, the command contrl-shift-k got me into
a place markers window rather than begin the video call. I am not sure if
this is a jaws window, but I do not think so. On my other computer, the
shortcut worked fine. I suspect it must be some setting. The audio call
shortcut contrl-shift-p worked correctly.

Hi Ed/all,
The skype version I got is 8.25.
C cheers,

Hi,
I am doing everything that you can do with Skype and JAWS by using the Skype
Win10 app. You can tab to the dial pad, press enter, and type in the number,
for example. I am making a lot of skype calls, and answering them. JAWS is a
little sluggish in the Skype app, but I use it. You just have to be a little
patient, and tab more than in a traditional desktop program. There are key
commands for skype app as well.

Hello list,

Was wondering if anyone’s been using the latest Skype (be it the desktop or
Windows 10 app) with a telephone number and whether they’ve been able to
perform basic functions with Jaws? I know the Skype topic has come up
recently in the past and how there are some accessibility challenges with
it. But it looks like there’s a nasty Skype for desktop exploit out there
and since I don’t use the chat features, but rather just the phone aspect,
thus my inquiry.

I saw that Brian Hartgen commented on Twitter that he’s been using the
Windows 10 app and is pleased with it. I know Brian’s probably considered an
advanced power user, so maybe he knows how to work around stuff maybe more
than the “average” computer user.

Microsoft accessibility has acknowledged the accessibility difficulties with
the latest Skype updates, but as of yet, nothing’s been done about it.

IN any event, I’m still on Skype for desktop 7.4 and using the latest Jaws
2018. Again, I’m mainly interested in the telephone aspect of the program
and if it’s still workable with Jaws. Be it the dedicated desktop app or the
universal Windows 10 app.

Thanks,

Cristobal

2017-07-23 Thread Nathaniel Kile
Do not use the latest Skype scripts, use the classic Skype install and it is
on their page, just google download skype desktop and it should be right
there on their front page. Then for scripts, you want to download D Lee's
Skype scripts and the link is dlee.org/skype
Go to your links list when on the page with insert/F7, go to the end of the
list with control/end and then arrow up 2 times and download that set of
scripts, it will be called, Script version 622b executable installer.
Don't forget to go into Skype tools and options with alt/t, O, go to the
bottom of the options with control/end to turn on accessibility, tab in once
and check the accisibility box and you should be good to go.

Helga,
Press windows key + R,
Then, type MSCONFIG-enter.
When the window opens up,
Tab across to the end of the first tab,
press control tab, to cycle with in the tabs, I think there is 5 tabs or 4.

Cycle to the start up tab and locate skype, either use the tab key or your
arrows to manuever
And just uncheck skype from starting up at start up...

Tab to the ok button-spacebar.
The PC should not ask to do a restart, just because you unchecked skype.
Close the window.
HTH,Jorge

I been there and it does not look like windows 7's MSCONFIG.

Re: [JAWS-Users] skype

2016-12-01 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Mr. Ed,

I loaded ZoomText with JAWS and the status information was still read
correctly by JAWS. The ZoomText speech also read the information correctly.
Even after unloading JAWS, ZoomText still read the information as expected
and I had magnification up to about 8x for testing. I don't know your
ZoomText configuration but if you are using default settings then this
shouldn't be a problem. If you have ZoomText with speech have you tried
turning off JAWS speech and using ZoomText speech to see what result you
get?

Another poster suggested that you check with the contact to make sure his
contact information hasn't changed. My reason for some of my suggestions
was that being you were hearing a message about a contact not being in your
contacts and yet focus was on the contact's name, it sounded like two
different areas of the screen were being read. This can happen if screen
echo is set to All and not Highlighted for example. The message you
are getting is the message I often get when I call someone but haven't added
their contact info to contacts. This is why I thought that focus might not
actually be in the contacts list.

The Skype scripts are included in the JAWS 18 installation. Sometimes just
compiling them will make things work right again.

At this time, I am not sure what else to suggest. Hopefully others might
have suggestions to help you resolve this issue.

Take care.

Hello Mr. Ed,

I really don't know why JAWS isn't giving you the status information. There
are a few things you can check though.

1. First, are you sure focus is on the information for the contact in
the contacts list? Use Alt with 1 to move focus into the list of contacts.
This should ensure focus is moved to the list and the favorites should be at
the top of the list so you can up arrow to the contact's name.
Yes, the focus is on the person's name in the favorites list. Just for your
information I use Zoomtext as I have some vision. I also use Jaws 18 latest
version.

2. Be sure the window is maximized by using CTRL with spacebar
followed by X.
Window is maximized.

3. Make sure screen echo is set to highlighted and not to All. Use
JAWS key with S until "highlighted" is announced.
Yes, it was set to echo.
4. Make sure the PC cursor is the active cursor by pressing the plus
key on the number pad if using a desktop or caps lock with semicolon if
using a laptop configuration.
Pc cursor is on.
5. Use Alt with V to bring up the view menu. Arrow down to the
"compact sidebar" menu item and if it is not checked then press enter key.
If it is checked just press Alt key to leave the menu.
I check this and it was not check but checked it and it did not make any
different except it change the view on the side and made it narrower.

6. Accessibility mode should be turned on in options. Use Alt with T
and then up arrow key to find the Options menu item. Press enter key. Move
to the last category in the list by pressing the end key. Tab to the
checkbox for using accessibility mode and make sure it is checked. If it is
not checked use spacebar to check the box. If you make changes to the
options then be sure to tab to the save button and use spacebar before
exiting options.
Accessibility mode was checked.

7. You can compile the JAWS scripts being used by pressing JAWS key
with 0, and when the script manager opens use CTRL with S. Exit the script
manager by using Alt with function key 4.
Not using any Jaws scrips. The announcing of whether the person is online
worked fine without Jaws scrips before.
8. It is probably best that you have the latest version of Skype
installed with JAWS 18.
I have the latest version of Skype and Jaws 18.

There are other troubleshooting steps that can be done but try these first
to see if JAWS starts announcing the status information for you.

Take care. I hope you get it working!

Hello Mr.

4. Make sure the PC cursor is the active cursor by pressing the plus
key on the number pad if using a desktop or caps lock with semicolon if
using a laptop configuration.

This is just a guess but since Microsoft bought Skype they may have included as
an optional download or update. If your system updates automatically it may
have come as a Christmas present.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Skype for Business

2015-12-20 Thread Annette Carr
Skype for Business will be pushed to my work computer sometime in the next
week. I will keep your e-mail address available and contact you if I need
help.

If I can find a way to successfully use this product without scripts, I will
be happy. I am not a fan of scripts in an environment where you do not have
control of what updates are pushed to your computer. It can take just one
little update and the script is broken. Then there is the matter of
managing the scripts for all of our employees who use JAWS across the
country.

[JAWS-Users] Skype for video

2015-09-25 Thread Lenny McHugh
This is probably the wrong list to ask about video. I have been a
motivational speaker and magician for many years. I was just honored by a
request to speak at the Blacksburg High School for Tom's World Sight Day.
The school is about 400 miles away and due to other commitments would be
unable to make the trip.
A friend suggested that I get a webcam and mike for my desktop computer and
use Skype.
How doable would this be? Also would it be very expensive, I have no plans
to ever use the camera again.
Also how difficult is it to try and learn Skype in a few days. The talk
would be on October 8.

[JAWS-Users] Skype find file help

2015-09-11 Thread Morey Worthington

Hi all.
Using Jaws 16, newest bill, Windows 7 HP, and the newest upgrade to Skype
and the newest scripts...phew.
A person sent me a file using Skype. When I highlight the persons name using
Alt/Tab, then use the alt/number one or two, it tells me the name of the
file.

Now the problem, how in the heck do I get the file to open??
There is not a open file or cancel or nothing at all. I went into
Applications key and nothing in there.

Any help sure would be appreciated.
Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] Skype 7.6 and voicemails

2015-07-02 Thread Cristóbal
Hello list,

Using Skype 7.6, I am unable to find the voicemail option under the view
menu as before. I have gone through options and indeed, the VM settings
section is still there and I do get notifications when I am left a VM, but
for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to access them. I’ve poked around
with the Jaws cursor and there doesn’t seem to be some funky button or
graphic in order to either play or land in the VM window to click on either.

Am I missing something or is this some sort of limitation/oversite with this
latest Skype release or is it a function of Jaws perhaps unable to read
something?

I have a Skype number for my business so this is an important feature to me.
The workaround I’m using for now is accessing the VM’s on the Skype app on
my iPhone. Not ideal, but at least it works. I’d like to be able to access
and play VM’s on my PC as before though.

Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] Skype phone number missed call status details

2015-04-17 Thread Cristóbal
Hello list,

I have a Skype telephone number for my business. One thing I haven’t been
able to figure out is when I have a missed call, I can’t find out what time
the incoming call was placed. If someone leaves a voicemail, that
information is read by Jaws in the VM window, but if someone doesn’t’ leave
a VM, I have no idea what time the call came in. Only that I missed a call.

Does anyone know how or where to access this information? Either by enabling
some setting or view?

Thanks,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Skype

2015-03-28 Thread Scorpio Forever

There's nothing remotely visual about this process.

You have one of two options for doing this.

The first option is, as David pointed out, going through the Skype
interface, and unchecking the box which says to run Skype when Windows
Starts. I believe there's one more box to uncheck, something about
including Skype to call service with your internet browser, but don't quote
me on that.

The second method, is to run the MSCONFIG utility on your computer. Type in
msconfig in the run dialog box and press enter.

In the resulting dialog box, control+tab to the services tab, and arrow down
the list and uncheck everything you see wit the word Skype in it.

Once done, control+tab to the start-up tab, and again, arrow through the
list of checkboxes, and uncheck all the items with the word Skype in it.

Once done, tab to the apply button, and press the spacebar. Press shift+tab
a few times until you get to the ok button, and press the spacebar again.

At this point, you may or may not be prompted to re-start your computer.

Feel free to accept or decline this offer. From this point on, when you
turn on your computer, Skype with not start automatically, as soon as your
computer boots up.

Hope this helps.

hello;

let's be clear about something, if you don't have a particular program
scripts installed,
then using the keystroke insert+q, is absolutely useless.
the insert+q is a jaws keystroke, and tells you, or gives you information on
the program scripts loaded,
the alt+ 1 2 3 are not jaws keystrokes for skype.

if you have jaws skype scripts installed, then the alt+ 1 2 3 will not work,
because the jaws scripts remapped the alt+ commands to reflect the familiar
behaviour

Scripts that work for Skype 6.22 will work for Skype 7.
Do a JAWS key plus h for the jaws hot keys. The combo for the

You need to press insert plus h while Skype is open, for the JAWS hot

If the skype icon is on your desktop, you can press ski and press enter, but
I would get famular with the icons that begin with s first as when jaws is
turned off, you do not want to click the wrong item, or create a hotkey to
launch skype.

Hi,
I used to be able to enter on the echo test link in my contacts and it would
go through the test. Now I have to tab a bunch of times and actually call
them to get the test. My test then is okay. I'm not sure how I would find a
skype icon when jaws is turned off.

Lauren:
Apparently, others are having that same issue after the latest windows
updates.
Their solution was to unload jaws, and then press enter on the skype Icon,
then turn jfw back on.
If you are unsure about that, I would just create a keystroke to launch
skype by going into the properties that way you will know if skype was
launched.
I just rolled back my system to the 14th and it is working now.
