If you look at his history, he deals in all sorts and has sold more than one
copy. Vivienne
I would do, but as far as I can see you haven't given us a link. This makes
it difficult for us to write any letters of condemnation to him.
This is a typical example of the 'other side of the coin'
Hi everyone,
I have been busy preparing for our annual Lace Day and have noticed a big
decline in sales of tickets and wondered if anyone else has noticed this too?
Our lace days have been held for nearly 30 years and we used to sell 100
tickets and have a waiting list. I have noticed that each
I also cannot find a link to this listing but surely the person is doing
nothing wrong merely selling a 'second hand' item - not a reproduction/copy.
This is the whole idea - to sell unwanted items!
Would it be better to send them to landfill - which would benefit no one?

The only Dimpa bag that came up in my search of IKEA measures 100 cm x 65 cm
x 22 cm - that's over three feet long (with the price of £3.49).
That is true Jean, my search only found the massive one. However as the
weather was so foul here in ireland I went to visit the new Ikea store in
Belfast.
Dear all,
Having inherited my grans sewing box I have finally sorted it out and found
some interesting threads! Especially some invisible thread as Brenda used on
one of her bookmark creations- yipee. Anyhow, I came acorss Coats satinised
and wondered if this is the same process as mercerised?
I am not going and never was going to pursue it. I just think why pay more
to a ebayer than to the original designer like Joan Kelly and Christine
Springett! He starts his bid on my patterns at £1.95. The new one is £2 and I
can
help you if you need advise. So, if no one is willing to over pay he
Hello Rhiannon
It's likely to be mercerised. I've had a quick rummage through my
sewing machine threads, some of which are quite old, but can't find
anything which says satinised.
The mercerisation process involves caustic soda which makes the cotton
fibres swell and become stronger and
Hello to you all,
I have a small confusion with sylko thread. How come so many manufacturers
made with the sylko name? Did Dewhusrt become Tootal as their labels still use
the three shells motif? Then some sylko i have is made by coats- total
confusion if you ask me.
There is additional
Hello everyone.
I have been reading about the Biggens patterns on e`bay.
The lady in question Chris Greg would be horrified to know she is doing
anything wrong.
I bought a card which was advertised as handmade lace. It turned out to be
machine lace. It is still pretty so I did`nt mind,
I did
Hi Daphne, I haven't looked at her site but the friend who told me has. In
her history she has sold more than one copy of patterns. Does a little old lady
have more than one copy? I think she may be very savvy. We once bought a car
which we had been told had only been driven by a little old
Hello Rhiannon
Dewhurst, Coats, Tootle, Amman all make/made Sylko which is a pretty
standard sewing machine thread, 3ply, Z twisted. The confusion comes
about because of the various company mergers and take-overs over the
years, but all basically the same thread, and the three shells is, I
Presumably I'm searching incorrectly, because I can't find any of Vivienne's
patterns on ebay. Can you give us a link or at least an item number Vivienne
so we know who this person is?

Probably the most useful book you can buy is Brenda Paternoster's book
Threads for Lace. It list (almost) every thread that is available and some
that are no longer made. She lists how many wraps there are to named threads
and then, in the second part of the book, lists all the threads with the
Hello everyone
Lacedays are so strange these days.
In 1993 you could be assured of big turn outs for lacedays 100 plus.
I have ran my own for the last 4 years and hovered around 30 to 60
lacemakers at anytime.
Wendy is right to say if you don`t support the lacedays then yes they will

I agree with Sue's comments that Binche will keep your brain working! It does
require more concentration and ability to follow a working diagram. But in the
end it is still Cross and Twist. I actually enjoy the medallion pieces found
in Collection I and also Anny Noben-Slegers many designs.
I would have thought that the 80 would have been
thicker than the 100 but it wasn't, am I then right in thinking that
the /2 or
/3 makes a lot of difference and it is that that gives you the
thickness not
the first number.
Hi Wendy:
Both numbers combine to give you the thickness. Here's
Hi Adele
Super explanation.
The specific gravity of the different fibres does have a small effect
on the size of finished thread, but cotton and linen are measured by
different sizes of hank.
With cotton: CC = Cotton Count, occasionally NeC = Number English Cotton
it's the number of 840
I finally found the Biggins snowflake pattern on ebay under completed
listings - no-one wanted it.
I'd be a bit miffed if I thought someone was trying to rip off designers,
but what's listed, (single patterns and odd reels of thread as well as
equipment) is clearly someone giving up
