Re: [lace] this is a comunication over the KANTCENTRUM
hope you don't mind but I ran the text through a translator, parts are obviously odd but the gist is clear I think, I've not trimmed your post so those who speak French can clear up the oddities in translation jenny barron Scotland hers Fans of lace, For a few months, the Center of the Lace of Bruges (Kantcentrum) has been managed by a new Office of direction. This new direction could conclude an agreement with the municipal council from the town of Bruges and the owners of the buildings (the family De Limburg Stirum). A few months ago still, that was announced very badly for the ASBL. But a group of Brugean decided that Kantcentrum was not to disappear. They were quickly joined by a broad group of support. The professors, the trainees, the personnel (where a reorganization was to take place, the fixed telephones passed from 4 to 2) are delighted by a new wind in poop. The new Office of direction (with the new delegate president and business man Wim Decraemer, the president and journalist with the VRT, the radio/Flemish television, Nico Blontrock and member of the Office, the Brugean bookseller Koen De Meester) started again bonds which found their place, of the relations lost in the past and which were joined again. Review KANT soon will benefit from a new page layout. The courses of summer will again be organized as well as new a three years formation for the lace professors. In addition, the occupation of the historical buildings of XVème century expires. However, the owner invested a half-million euro in the restoration and the enlarging of the old lace school, a little further in Balstraat. A new lace Museum (with laces of the municipal collection) will open there too. Relations with our concucollègues, in other words the other tradesmen Brugean dentelliers, will be also restored. Soon, of the projects will be carried out in collaboration with those. The center of Tourism of Bruges strongly will promote all that relates to lace like cultural events, in Belgium like abroad. Kantcentrum lives again. It abounds with activities, it considers many projects, the future offers a quantity of opportunities to us. If you had the choice of a printed pattern book--let's assume that it is not a hardbound volume--or a CD, which would you purchase? If you opted for the CD, how would you use it--to print out the entire publication, or only those patterns that were of specific interest to you. What would you consider a fair price for a pattern book on CD? [lace] 24 hearts in bobbinlace
Hi I've just bought 24 hearts in bobbin lace by Lene Bjorn and they are so lovely I want to start tonight. The thread called for is 28/2, can't find any mention of a maker. I'm assuming linen and the only one I can find in my edition of 'Brenda'(bought 5 years ago so a wee bit out of date - must treat myself to the new edition) is Juul's 28/2 at 19 wraps. Re: [lace] Threads and pins
Barbara Joyce said about using a roller with a looped pricking... Here's my question: I've been cautioned that with this method there is a risk that the pricking might not stay exactly vertical but might eventually work its way slightly diagonal. Is this really a problem/risk? If so, how can I avoid it? I've not had that problem - only done a few inches so far on my garter but I've had the problen of the pricking rising up from the surface of the roller. I don't press the pins down as I'm going to be pulling them out as the roller turns. [lace-chat] Friday AM Smiles....
well it's really Wednesday morning smiles, no 9 does it for me jenny barron Scotland HOME REMEDIES... 1. If you are choking on an ice cube, don't panic. Simply pour a cup of boiling water down your throat and presto! The blockage will be almost instantly removed. 2. Clumsy? Avoid cutting yourself while slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them while you chop away. 3. Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat by simply using the sink. 4. High blood pressure sufferers: simply cut yourself and bleed for a while, thus reducing the pressure in your veins. 5. A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep when you hit the snooze button. 6. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives, then you will be afraid to cough. 7. Have a bad tooth ache? Hit your thumb with a hammer, then you will forget about the tooth ache.. 8. AND... Sometimes we just need to remember what The Rules of Life really are: 9. You need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape. 10. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them. 11. If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You have another chance! 12. And finally... Does anyone on the list know of a UK supplier for the brooches used in the Rosalibre book? [lace] Pillow Bag
Thanks for all the advice about pillow bags, I've just finished making the one Clay recommended and I'm impressed - with the concept not particularly the execution, my dressmaking skills are very rusty - it's a very adaptable shape and it's taking my largest round pillow, I think it's a 24inch, with ease. I think I'll make a smaller one for my littlest round pillow - can't resist fiddling about with patterns to see how I can adapt things. jenny barron Sunny Scotland, think I'll take the dog for her overdue walk - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Fwd: Re: [lace] pillow bag
hope you don't mind me forwarding this to the list Fran, I think everyone else who is thinking of making a pillow bag will appreciate another take on the flat bag. I've got lots of ideas from everyone and as I have the book Clay was recommending I'm going to try that one first. Thank you one and all jenny barron Scotland Fran Higham [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: Fran Higham [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Jenny Barron [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [lace] pillow bag Date: Sat, 1 Oct 2005 19:23:58 +1000 Hi Jenny Imagine a cross like the Red Cross cross - nice big and fat with thick arms and a thick bit in the centre of the cross. The centre square bit bit is the square that you put your pillow on and then the arms of the cross fold over. 2 of them will just cover the pillow to keep it clean and the other 2 arms of the cross have a handle in them at the far outside edges of the arms. They meet and form the handles when you fold then in towards the centre. The handles are usually just a bit of dowel or even a posh bit of timber which is fed into the entire edge of the outside of the last 2 arms and they have a D shaped cut out of the fabric so you can grasp the handle. Hope that helps. Fran in Australia - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[lace] pillow bag
I fancy making a new pillow bag for myself out of some patchwork I am about to quilt - new hobby, must make use of practice pieces - and I thought instead of the normal bag that puts the pillow on it's side when being carried I'd like the kind that leaves the pillow flat. But - now I come to the actual planning of such a bag I realise I've no real idea of how to make one. Do you start with a square of fabric big enough to place the pillow in the middle and fold the corners over the pillow with a bit to spare? Anyone ever made one who could point me in the right direction? jenny barron Scotland - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[lace-chat] Longish but definitely worth the wait...
not sure if it is worth the wait but it might raise a wee smile jenny barron Sunny Scotland Last Saturday night; a young chap was walking home from a club. It was a cold, wet, windy evening, and he was tired and freezing. Most of the streetlights in the area were broken, and the silence was only broken by the occasional sound of a stray cat sifting through a dustbin. Then suddenly he heard a strange noise... BUMP BUMP BUMP Startled by this, he turned, and to his amazement, through the driving rain, he saw the faint outline of a large box turning into his road. BUMP BUMP BUMP He froze to the spot, he couldn't believe his eyes, as the box approached from the shadows, he was able to make out its shape more clearlyIt was a coffin. Not wanting anything to do with this, he put his head down and started walking briskly home. BUMP BUMP BUMP He could feel the coffin gaining on him, he started walking faster. BUMPBUMP.. BUMPBUMP. BUMPBUMP.. The coffin was closing with his every step, he started to jog, but he heard the coffin speed up after him.. BUMPBUMP..BUMP.. BUMPBUMP..BUMP.. BUMPBUMP..BUMP.. He started to sprint, but so did the coffin . BUMP...BUMP...BUMP...BUMP. BUMP...BUMP...BUMP...BUMP. BUMP...BUMP...BUMP...BUMP. Eventually he made it to his front door, but he knew the coffin was Only seconds behind. Fumbling around in his pocket, he pulled out his keys, His hand trembling, he managed to open the lock, he dived inside slamming The front door behind him. He shot into his front room, and lumped into his comfy chair. Suddenly there was a loud crash, as the coffin smashed its way through the front door. The force of the impact broke the lock off the coffin allowing the lid to swing freely on its rusty hinges as it continued Its chase. BUMP...SCREECH...BUMP...SCREECH... BUMP...SCREECH...BUMP...SCREECH... BUMP...SCREECH...BUMP...SCREECH... BUMP...SCREECH...BUMP...SCREECH... In horror the young lad fled again, as fast as his shaking legs could take him he bolted upstairs to the bathroom and locked the door BUMP...SCREECH...HOP...BUMP...SCREECH...HOP... BUMP...SCREECH...HOP...BUMP...SCREECH...HOP... BUMP...SCREECH...HOP...BUMP...SCREECH...HOP... The coffin again gave chase up the stairs, across the landing and launched itself at the bathroom door. With an almighty smash, the Bathroom door flew off its hinges The coffin stood in the doorway, then started to approach the young terrified lad. BUMP...SCREECH...BUMP...SCREECH... BUMP...SCREECH...BUMP...SCREECH... BUMP...SCREECH...BUMP...SCREECH... In a last ditch attempt to save his skin, he reached for his bathroom cabinet.. He grabbed a bar of Imperial Leather soap and threw it at the coffin...still it came . BUMP...SCREECH...BUMP...SCREECH... He grabbed his can of Lynx deodorant and threw it . Still it came.. BUMP...SCREECH...BUMP...SCREECH... He grabbed his first aid kit and threw it .still it came.. BUMP...SCREECH...BUMP...SCREECH... He grabbed some Benelyn cough mixture and threw it The coffin stopped.
