But they are getting easier.

I asked recently at a parent's night in my boy's high school when they start
differentiation and calculus, they said at A level. In my O level maths days
(1982) you learned both, and needed to understand them to get an O level.

Science is the same. Half of the stuff I leant in chemistry and physics they
don't do these days until A level.

So where are they teaching the old A level curriculum? University?

Btw, I only got 9 on the grammar school test.

Teaching methods, technology are way ahead of my school days.

Problem is the need to show success with bollox like A*s.

It should always be based on %. Top 10 get A next 10 B etc If you are in a

Well uni intake has gone from about 15% to 48% so obviously it's easier to
get in. I'd guess the fees increase is by far a greater disincentive than
any perceived reduction in standards. Indeed using the international
standards our uni's still kick everyone else into a cocked hat
proportionally to our intake and population. Even in secondary education
the standards are rising, its just that other countries are rising more

48% socialist dream to make uni attainable. Good motives but like Arsenal
you can expand but if the product is getting worse people wont pay or come
and you end up filling it with freebies.

I'm in vocational education anyway so I would like to see uni places capped
at 25% and the rest put into useful skills for the modern economy as we
call it.

It is a sad day when the kazakhs star calling our unis crap!

Brendan,
Not really sure where the Old Firm would fit into the English structure. They
would want to go straight into the Prem for the money but which clubs would
move to let them? Also politically a disaster for the SFA in UEFA terms.
Would anyone here want them at the expense of Leeds ?

Bumper overtime for the Plod though.

Just checked my past O Level papers (AEB + London + Oxford Cambridge flash
cards) from 76 - 78

Only Differential equation questions in the London exam board papers - and
they were based on the formula resolution of a differential equation
rather than knowing/ understanding either Liebnitz's or Newton's notations.

I think knowstalgia ain't what it used to be ;)

PS Yes I know its a bit anal to have kept them

I asked recently at a parent's night in my boy's high school when they
start differentiation and calculus, they said at A level. In my O level
maths days (1982) you learned both, and needed to understand them to get an
 O level.

But I'm from Yorkshire, so actually only know about tripe and whippets.
